Made in Taiwan Concerns

Semiconductor chips were the main topic at an adjacent conference in the Hilton Bonnet Creek this week. An employee of mine spoke with one attendee who said shareholders were concerned that their manufacturing headquarters were located in Taiwan. Should they be concerned?

I’m told the general consensus was that even in the event of China following through with its One China policy, the company believed that China would not want to lose such a lucrative business deal with the United States.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the United States is not the only nation lining up to purchase chips. Most tech companies NEED those semiconductor chips and the world never truly recovered from the shortage a few years ago. This particular company produces top-tier chips and there is an extremely high demand for them. People will pay top dollar.

Chip

Look at what happened in Russia. We are still purchasing Russian oil but through third party nations like India who turn around and sell it at a premium. Energy is more expensive for everyone in the West now. China could implement retaliatory tariffs for the US and anyone else disobeying the One China policy and China is strategic enough to know that cutting off the West’s supply of semiconductors would be a economic blow.

Socrates accurately predicted Taiwan’s election results earlier in the year and we saw a direction change back in January. Taiwan’s new President Tsai Ing-wen is the most outspoken Taiwanese leader against the One China policy. He has been deemed a threat by the Chinese government. The neocons have said they will defend Taiwan to the end, while China has reiterated that any attempt to interfere in its affairs will be met with severe consequences.

Tsai Ing-wen is eager to strengthen relationships with the US by producing more semiconductor chips. The US set aside funds specifically to build up domestic manufacturing, but shortages remain a serious problem.

“In the face of authoritarian expansionism and the challenges of the post-pandemic era, Taiwan seeks to bolster cooperation with the United States in the semiconductor and other high-tech industries. This will help build more secure and more resilient supply chains. We look forward to jointly producing democracy chips to safeguard the interests of our democratic partners and create greater prosperity,” Taiwan’s president stated.

Taiwan’s growing relationship with America is fanning the flames of war. The nation’s entire military strategy relies on superpowers like America shielding it from China. Our adversaries see that we are wearing ourselves thin and striking will be far easier than before.

It remains to be seen how relations will pan out with Trump at the helm. We all remember the infamous US-China trade war under his first administration where both nations needlessly slapped on tariff after tariff. Let’s also remember that it will not be easy for Taiwan to export anything if there is war in the Indo-Pacific. Is made in Taiwan a safe bet right now from a Western perspective? Unfortunately, the answer is no.

Taiwan Reaffirms Independence on National Day

Posted originally on Oct 14, 2024 By Martin Armstrong

Taiwan’s National Day address was in stark contrast to the message put forth by China for its CCP anniversary. Xi Jingping of China used his national holiday to reaffirm his commitment to reunifying Taiwan with China. Taiwan’s leadership used the day to reaffirm that China “has no right to represent Taiwan.”

“The Republic of China [Taiwan’s official name] — which took root in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu — and the People’s Republic of China are not subordinate to each other,” President Lai Ching-te said. Lai, who has been deemed a terrorist by the Chinese Communist Party, said that the people but “resist annexation” as China’s military presence continues to grow. “We hope that China will live up to the expectations of the international community, that it will apply its influence and work with other countries toward ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East,” Taiwan’s president stated.

Meanwhile, China said that Taiwan’s claims of separatism are obsolete. Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Lai’s message “exposed his hell-bent position on independence and his sinister intention to escalate tensions in the Taiwan Strait for political self-interest.” Worse, she said that his strong message could result in China taking military action against Taiwan.

Global tensions seem to increase by the day amid deteriorating economic conditions, with major conflicts now including Ukraine v. Russia, the growing threat of Russia v. NATO, Israel v. Palestine, Israel & US v. Iran, and now China threatening Taiwan, among others. While it’s too early to say World War III has arrived, we are clearly a world at war, and it’s possible that regional conflicts could morph into something larger.

China Vows to Reclaim Taiwan

China v Taiwan 3

Xi Jinping celebrated the eve of China Communist Party’s 75th anniversary with words reaffirming is resolution to reunify Taiwan with mainland China. Jinping’s message comes mere days after the United States provided Taiwan with over $567 million in aid and a promise to remain the nation’s leading ally.

“It’s an irreversible trend, a cause of righteousness and the common aspiration of the people. No one can stop the march of history,” he told the thousands in attendance at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, according to state-run news agency Xinhua. Taiwan has operated as a separate government since October 1, 1949, after the end of China’s civil war when the nationalists fled to Taiwan to avoid communist persecution. China has always maintained its One China policy despite Taiwan conducting elections and operating independently.

“Taiwan is China’s sacred territory. Blood is thicker than water, and people on both sides of the strait are connected by blood,” Xi Jinping reiterated. “(We must) resolutely oppose ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities.”

Taiwan ECM 2

Taiwan’s new president has been deemed a national security threat by the CCP, yet he is emboldened by his powerful allies who have vowed to “protect” Taiwan against China. Not only is America providing half a billion in military funding, but the US military plans to provide “military education and training.” This is not a new revelation as American troops have been training Taiwanese forces since the beginning of the year in what was described as a PERMANENT arrangement. This was the clever way to claim that the US was not stationing troops in Taiwan, but they were there ONLY for training purposes, as was the case in Ukraine. The training regimens were being planned and supervised by the 1st Special Forces Group, an airborne unit, under the provisions of last year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which was signed into law in December 2022. As with Ukraine, the West is arming Taiwan well in advance.

The neocons fail to realize that they are stretched thin with proxy wars in the Middle East, Europe, and now Asia. How does the West plan to actively maintain forces on all three fronts simultaneously? Ukraine would have fallen long ago if the west were not propping it up. Israel was designed from its origination as a vassal state. Taiwan would not stand a chance against China given its size and limited resources. The threats from the neocons no longer hold weight as their opponents see they have been weakened and were not able to conquer Russia as planned.
