Ebola is the gift that will keep on giving, not just an October Surprise, it will continue to spread in coming months. Thanks President Obama. The only silver lining I can see in all of this is that it may finally tank the Obama Administration. Thanks to Obama’s idiocy (or is it his colossal ignorance, arrogance, or hatred of America) Ebola is now in the heart of America. Thomas Eric Duncan, who brought Ebola to Dallas, would (if he were still alive) be prosecuted in his native Liberia for falsely claiming he had not been in contact with any Ebola cases. He seems to have ‘shared’ his virus with a couple of his caretakers in Dallas and there are now at least 200 people being monitored – this is what is being widely report. Duncan had 70 (why so many?) healthcare workers who should have been quarantined. They could still be paid, they could still communicate with the outside world by telephone, but the rest of America would have been safe.

Those 70 healthcare workers have spouses, children, etc. (so at a minimum double that 70) and there were 132 (double that at a minimum) on the Cleveland to Dallas flight taken by one of his caretakers – so the numbers just don’t add up. Not much is known about Ebola. Is it possible that on the flight TO Cleveland she passed it along? Furthermore, the children of these 192 people are going to school and it only takes one to spread the disease to an entire school and from there it will go to every family with a child in that school.

There have been comparisons between Ebola and AIDS. Yes, they are both caused by viruses. Yes, they both come from Africa. But there is a huge difference. AIDS is ONLY spread by sexual contact or by blood transfusions – people tend to notice when they have sexual contact or a blood transfusion.  Ebola is easily spread to people of all ages and both genders, and does not require any action on the part of the person catching it. You can walk right past someone with AIDS and not worry – but if you are near anyone with Ebola it is easy for you to catch it.

Nurse Nina Pham has been in the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas (and transferred Thursday night to a special care unit in Maryland) where she is still in serious condition after getting Ebola from Duncan, although she has received a blood transfusion from Dr. Kent Brantly, an Ebola survivor. The second infected healthcare worker from the same hospital, Amber Jay Vinson, is being moved to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia – I have been unable to discover why Vinson and not Pham, but I do know that Emory treated Brantly. However, I did find a number of stories about how Vinson flew to Dallas from Cleveland already had a low grade fever the day before being diagnosed, but was greenlighted for the trip by the CDC. Why did they do that? Why was she on a commercial plane after working with Thomas Eric Duncan? It would have made far more sense to have quarantined every health care worker who had any contact with him, and to do so for 30 days, yet here was a woman who traveled to Cleveland and back.

Dr. Kent Brantly was treated in Atlanta. But no one seems to be asking why was he in Africa? He was working with Samaritan’s Purse in Liberia. This is a man with a profession, a wife, and children. God bless the medical missionary – but isn’t this a more suitable career choice for the unattached?  It seems to me that there is plenty of work he could do in the USA to spreading the gospel, he could even have been a medical missionary in the USA. It even seems to me that there are a lot of boys and young men who need a grown man in their life (the Big Brother program comes to mind) – but I guess there isn’t much glory in that, but going abroad to do good deeds is a sure winner.  Not only is it considered virtuous but you can feel good about yourself for having done it. But I digress.

Brantly was one of three U.S. aid workers who were flown back to this country and were successfully treated. He has now donated blood which has been given to two Ebola victims, one of whom, NBC cameraman Ashoka Mukpo, is improving in Omaha.

Dr. Sean Kaufman of Emory University Hospital oversaw the treatment of Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, the first two American Ebola patients infected overseas. Kaufman has called earlier CDC guidelines “absolutely irresponsible and dead wrong.” He attempted to warn the CDC that their guidelines were too lax but according to Kauffman, “They kind of blew me off.”

Obama is planning to (illegally) send 3,000 military personnel from the 101^st Airborne to Africa to fight Ebola. I didn’t know you could kill Ebola by shooting it. There is no need for this. Surely someone in the White House (or the U.S. Military) is aware of the airlift in 1948/49, when for 11+ months, American and British forces dropped supplies over a West Berlin that was being blockaded by the Russians. This could be done again in West Africa – just parachute the supplies in and let the locals take it from there. There are other things we can do as well: quarantine and a travel ban are two things that immediately come to mind.

What happens if all or most of the 3,000 U.S. military personnel catch Ebola? Quarantine them of course. So far quarantines have not been overly successful, and with the current commander-in-chief one wonders if these 3,000 military personnel will be quarantined, or if they will be allowed to go where they please further spreading Ebola.

NBC cameraman Ashoka Mukpo, contracted the disease and due to his situation the NBC reporting team, including the NBC chief medical correspondent, Nancy Snyderman were quarantined but that didn’t stop her and a crew member from leaving to collect an order at a Hopewell Boro, New Jersey eatery. Following that little escapade the quarantine was made mandatory – mandatory? I thought all quarantines were mandatory. Some have put this down to the fact that as elites (media types) they felt entitled. But frankly the entitlement mentality now seems to cover nearly all Americans.  Hence all quarantines must be mandatory.

The Obama administration has repeatedly refused to create a travel ban. What if, immediately after the first outbreak there had been a world-wide ban on the West African country where the original outbreak had occurred? There would be no Ebola today in the Western Hemisphere, none in Europe, and none elsewhere. Yes, there might have been a few cases in neighboring countries as a few hardy souls crossed local borders. Instead there is an epidemic that is on the verge of becoming world-wide.

Obama briefly imposed a travel ban on Israel in the summer of 2014, it was so insulting and so meaningless, that it was soon rescinded. Of course it didn’t hurt that former mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, and other high profile individuals went anyway, nor did it hurt that Israel was more or less winning and that even Egypt and Saudi Arabia were reported to be happy to see Hamas being defeated. This made Obama look like a fool and ended the travel ban.

Dr. Tom Frieden, Director of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) claims that a “travel ban is not the right answer. It’s simply not feasible to build a wall — virtual or real — around a community, city or country.”  He also claims that Ebola is not airborne (then why the Hazmat suits?) and that there is no large outbreak in the US (well, not at the moment). Why not put a travel ban into effect, why not build a wall around America. Both have been done before and walls have been built around communities, cities and whole countries.

The Chinese built their wall to keep the Mongolian hordes out. The Romans built Hadrian’s Wall to keep the wild Scots out of ancient England.  Think of West Berlin in the 1940s. Think of Israel today.  Good walls make good neighbors. Did you know there were quarantines in America at one time?  Quarantines work. It is NOT the responsibility of the CDC to make nice to any country. It is the responsibility of the CDC to protect Americans in America. They are not doing a very good job. Frieden should be forced to resign (along with the Secretary of Health and Human Services). Also Obama, but he is going to get his. I’ve already seen articles calling him President Ebola.
