Black Tuesday of Climate Science

Great work, even though I knew what was done your time line really lays it out. Any one that was involved with this travesty should have there degrees revoked; what ever there are that are not scientists!

Today I will review the timeline of the above WMO 1999 graph in the light of the ClimateGate (CG) letters. The main events took place on Tuesday, November 16th, 1999.

Things start rolling 9 AM (UK time), when Tim Osborn sends  the new Briffa and recalibrated Jones (1998) time series to Phil Jones along with the suggestion to hide the decline.

It is ready calibrated in deg C wrt. 1961-90, against the average Apr-Sep land temperature north of 20N.  It goes from 1402 to 1994 – but you really ought to replace the values from 1961 onwards with observed temperatures due to the decline.

Twenty minutes later Jones writes  to the MBH crew (cc Briffa and Osborn) explaining exactly what the graph will look like.

WMO want to go with the millennial record on the cover and I said I would produce something and some text. The figure…

Blackouts Ahead If EPA Rules Shut Down More Power Plants

They are hell bent on eliminating fossil based fuels, particularly coal, no matter what economic and social cost there is by so doing.

The EPA is more concerned with what sounds good than what actually works.

NYC-Blackout-628x353In this hyper-partisan environment, it is good to know that a majority of Senators can still agree on an issue. When such a rare moment happens, the rest of us should pay attention, as it is probably something very important.

On September 11, 53 Senators (43 Republicans and 10 Democrats) signed a letter to Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), begging for a 60-day extension of the comment period for the “Carbon Pollution Emission Guidelines for Existing Stationary Sources: Electric Generating Units”—also known as the Clean Power Plan (CPP). The original 120-day comment period—which is already longer than the traditional 60-day comment period—is coming to a close within the next 30 days (October 16).

Regarding the EPA’s new plan, the letter calls the coordination needed between…

A former White House science advisor speaks out about “settled science”

Its very easy to make a model — its not so easy to make one that works! Since the current model did not predict the current cooling period that would seem to indicate that there is a flaw in the model. So far now all I can say is come back when you have something that works.

Bill McKibben Hopes To Remove The Last Remnants Of Science From Climate Science

The fact that this could even be considered shows how far we have fallen since we walked on the moon in 1969

Tony Heller's avatarReal Climate Science

This Sunday, upwards of 100,000 people are expected to take to the streets of New York City in a worldwide climate protest that organizers say will be the largest and most diverse in history.

If these numbers prove correct, then the “People’s Climate March” will likely mark the moment when global warming transitions from being a science and policy issue into a full-fledged social movement. Perhaps it will become as large as the gay rights and civil rights movements. But even if it doesn’t, it could play a crucial part in changing the political environment on this seemingly intractable issue.

Super Hot Antarctica Blows Away All Sea Ice Records

Maybe the dark energy is sucking up the heat!

Tony Heller's avatarReal Climate Science

Gavin says half of coastal Antarctica was super-duper hot last month, which explains why it is blowing away all records for the amount of sea ice.

Cryosphere Makes Climate Scientists Cry

These cool or cold periods last around 30 some years and we are not even half way into this one so the “believers” will need to keep coming up with ways to explain what we see is not happening for a long time!

Arctic sea ice area has increased by 2,000 Manhattans over the past five days, and is up 58% over two years ago.

Learning To Think Like A Progressive Scientist

You can’t be both a scientist and a progressive they are mutually exclusive!

Tony Heller's avatarReal Climate Science

We hear idiotic remarks all the time from experts like :

We are having 100 year rainfalls every year now

It is difficult to grasp the level of stupidity behind that remark. The odds of winning the lottery are 100 million to one. For any individual, it is a multi-million year event – yet it happens all the time.

Same story with rainfall. If you have 5,000 weather stations which have been keeping records for 100 years, odds are you will have fifty “100 year rainfalls” every year.

National Wildlife Federation Says Lake Superior Will Soon Be Ice-Free In Winter

Few, if any, of their predictions have come true so its hard to believe much of anything they claim!

Tony Heller's avatarReal Climate Science

Lake Superior has increased water temperatures and an earlier onset of summer stratification by about two weeks in just the past 30 years. Within another 30 years Lake Superior may be mostly ice-free in a typical winter.

Lake Erie water levels, already below average, could drop 4-5 feet by the end of this century, significantly altering shoreline habitat.

More Spectacular Malfeasance At GISS

Facts don’t matter only the optics!

Tony Heller's avatarReal Climate Science

Gavin has very little data in Antarctica, but that didn’t stop him from turning a large region of -0.5 degree anomaly into a + 6 anomaly, and reporting to a precision of 0.01 degrees.

OutOfAntarctica

Similar story in Africa. Gavin has no coverage over most of the continent, and simply makes temperatures up and reports them to 0.01 degrees. RSS showed Africa below normal temperature in August.
