What the Brelo verdict means for us

Post by Jeff Longo

The Guest column (In the Cleveland Plain Dealer) “What the Brelo verdict means for us” uses half-truths, made up innuendos and outright lies to advance AJ Barrington’s anti-cop agenda. He uses the word “murders” when referring to the deaths of the two suspects in Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo’s case as well as Michael Brown, Eric Garner and Tamir Rice. These assertions are void of facts and indicate little, if any, research was done by Mr. Barrington.

In the Brelo case police were responding to a report that shots were fired. While it was later determined the shots heard were probably a backfire from the suspects’ car the officers in pursuit had no way of knowing this. After a 22 mile chase the judge ruled, correctly in the opinion of many, that Brelo rightfully feared for his life and his actions were justified. One of the suspects tested positive for drugs and alcohol. .

Michael Brown was a young 300 pound black man who was falsely turned into a martyr. Brown attacked a Ferguson, MO. police officer and attempted to take his gun. He had just finished assaulting and robbing a local store clerk. Brown tested positive for marijuana. Even the Obama “Social” Justice Department discredited the phony “hands up don’t shoot” lie delivered by liberal politicians and a corrupt main stream media. .

The autopsy in the Eric Garner case attributed his death was at the hands of another party – but not murder. The 400 pound Garner died thanks to acute and chronic bronchial asthma, obesity and pre-existing heart disease. Prior to the struggle the police had no way of knowing about his preexisting health issues.

All of these suspects died while they were resisting arrest. Mr. Barrington also includes the Tamir Rice case in his Guest column. As I write this letter there has still been no decision rendered in the criminal investigation of this tragic event. Including this case in his column adds to the suggestion that Mr. Barrington spent little time researching these cases.

Until recently our nation has enjoyed a two decade long decline in violent crime. Experts credit proactive policing for this trend. Now thanks to liberals like AJ Barrington police officers are being told they’re racists. Police are being targeted for death as the crime rate spikes throughout the country. These anti-cop attacks are forcing dedicated men and women to avoid proactive law enforcement. Those that will suffer the consequences from this police slow-down the most are the poor black families who live in crime infested neighborhoods. As long as they keep electing Democrats that’s where they’ll stay.

The Truth About Male Privilege

Male Privilege is a term for social, economic, and political advantages or rights that are made available to men solely on the basis of their sex. Feminists tend to believe that they are living in a world where this is absolutely true and must be changed, but is it?

Paying the Price — Kinder, gentler policing isn’t making Baltimore safer.

Re-Posted from the American Spectator

By 6.2.15

Baltimore is now paying the price for irresponsible words and actions, not only by young thugs in the streets, but also by its mayor and the state prosecutor, both of whom threw the police to the wolves, in order to curry favor with local voters.

Now murders in Baltimore in May have been more than double what they were in May last year, and higher than in any May in the past 15 years. Meanwhile, the number of arrests is down by more than 50 percent.

Various other communities across the country are experiencing very similar explosions of crime and reductions of arrests, in the wake of anti-police mob rampages from coast to coast that the media sanitize as “protests.”

None of this should be surprising. In her carefully researched 2010 book, Are Cops Racist? Heather Mac Donald pointed out that, after anti-police campaigns, cops tended to do less policing and criminals tended to commit more crimes.

If all this has been known for years, why do the same mistakes keep getting made?

Mainly because it is not a mistake for those people who are looking out for their own political careers. Critics who accuse the mayor of Baltimore and the Maryland prosecutor of incompetence, for their irresponsible words and actions, are ignoring the possibility that these two elected officials are protecting and promoting their own chances of remaining in office or of moving on up to higher offices.

Racial demagoguery gains votes for politicians, money for race-hustling lawyers and a combination of money, power, and notoriety for armies of professional activists, ideologues, and shakedown artists.

So let’s not be so quick to say that people are incompetent when they say things that make no sense to us. Attacking the police makes sense in terms of politicians’ personal interests, and often in terms of the media’s personal interests or ideological leanings, even if what they say bears little or no resemblance to the facts.

Of course, all these benefits have costs. There is no free lunch. But the costs are paid by others, including men, women, and children who are paying with their lives in ghettos around the country, as politicians think of ever more ways they can restrict or scapegoat the police.

The Obama administration’s Department of Justice has been leading the charge, when it comes to presuming the police to be guilty — not only until proven innocent, but even after grand juries have gone over all the facts and acquitted the police.

Not only Attorney General Holder, but President Obama himself, has repeatedly come out with public statements against the police in racial cases, long before the full facts were known. Nor have they confined their intervention to inflammatory words.

The Department of Justice has threatened various local police departments with lawsuits unless they adopt the federal government’s ideas about how police work should be done.

The high cost of lawsuits virtually guarantees that the local police department is going to have to settle the case by bowing to the Justice Department’s demands — not on the merits, but because the federal government has a lot more money than a local police department, and can litigate the case until the local police department runs out of the money needed to do its work.

By and large, what the federal government imposes on local police departments may be summarized as kinder, gentler policing. This is not a new idea, nor an idea that has not been tested in practice.

It was tested in New York under Mayor David Dinkins more than 20 years ago. The opposite approach was also tested when Dinkins was succeeded as mayor by Rudolph Giuliani, who imposed tough policing policies — which brought the murder rate down to a fraction of what it had been under Dinkins.

Unfortunately, when some people experience years of safety, they assume that means that there are no dangers. That is why New York’s current mayor is moving back in the direction of Mayor Dinkins. It is also the politically expedient thing to do.

And innocent men, women, and children — most of them black — will pay with their lives in New York, as they have in Baltimore and elsewhere.

Love in the new world, after the gender wars

Larry Kummer, Editor's avatarFabius Maximus website

Summary:  It’s vital to understand not just what’s happening in the gender wars but why. Here Allan Bloom explains the beliefs and goals of the social reformers leading the restructuring of American society. They’re quite frank in writings amongst themselves, but speak to the rest of us in more gentler and comforting terms.  {2nd of 2 posts today.}

Snow White fights sexism

Excerpt from Allan Bloom’s Love and Friendship (1993):
“The Fall of Eros”

The new program to reform society

Now there is a new illiberal tendency that strangely both contradicts and supports liberal tolerance and easygoingness: the imperial project of reform promoted by radical feminism. It wants to enter the bedroom and much more the psyche in order to alter male sexual taste and behavior. It is not so much acts but the meaning of those acts and the disposition of those who perform them that now count.

Ten Ways Men Oppress Women with Their Everyday Behavior

By Katherine Timpf January 19, 2015 11:58 AM NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE

By now, you may have heard of “manspreading” — when a guy sits with his legs apart on the subway to assert his dominance — and “manslamming” — when a man doesn’t get out of the way of a woman on the street and they run into each other.

While these are definitely very important women’s issues, there are still so many more we need to be talking about. Here are ten words for even more ways men are constantly oppressing women:

1. Broplimenting

This is when a guy says something nice to you without asking for your consent first. Men should always ask “Do you consent to me complimenting you?” before saying anything nice or else it’s assault. No, nonverbal cues don’t count — he still has to ask for explicit consent before offering that kind of affection.

2. Mansulting

This is when a man says something really mean to you. You know, like, the opposite of a broplimenting. Mansults are worse than insults because each one is another brick being added to the fortress of the patriarchy that surrounds you every day no matter how hard you try to fight it with hashtags on Feminist Twitter.

3. Bropen-mouth chewing

When people see man chewing with his mouth open, most think that it’s just him being rude — but that’s just because most people aren’t educated on women’s issues. Social-justice scholars realize that feeling the need to display the crushing and grinding of food is actually a sign of dominance over the lesser being that you are consuming. Especially if it’s meat because eating meat is sexist because women need to show solidarity with animals because that’s how the world sees us anyway (like animals) and we have to be their friends. (I am only interested in dating vegan men who make sure they have chewed and swallowed all of their food before we return to talking about how many microaggressions there are in the restaurant. It’s so rowomantic!)

4. Mentoring

You’ve heard this word before, but unless you’re as educated and culturally aware as I am, you have probably never thought about how sexist it is. Why isn’t it “women-toring,” huh? I’ll tell you why. It’s because we live in a society where people think men are the only ones who can give advice. Seriously, I hate when like my boss or my dad tries to help me out or give me feedback and acts like it’s because he has more experience when really we all know it’s just because he thinks that he is better than me because he is a man and I am a woman. I fight against this by refusing to take advice or direction from men and smearing anyone who tries to offer it in a Jezebel post. I just did this with my boss, actually, and guess what? He fired me! Just more proof of sexism in the workplace.

5. Sleep Manpnea

Men snore because they have to keep imposing their existence on us even while they are asleep. It is of course different from women’s snoring. When a woman snores, it’s because she has been manterrupted all day and needs some way for her voice to be heard. By the way, if a man ever tells you that your snoring bothers him, what he really means is that he is uncomfortable with the idea of women being heard.

6. Mantroduction

If a man introduces you instead of letting you introduce yourself, that’s because he wants to control your identity. If you are out with a guy and he says “This is my girlfriend . . .,” leave immediately. Sure, he might have just been trying to be respectful, but don’t feel bad for him. That would mean he doesn’t understand his privilege and you don’t want to be with someone that dumb and out of touch anyway.

7. Manspiration

This is when a man tries to inspire you with a story from his own life as if he has any idea what your life is like as a woman. Now, while that’s unacceptable, it’s also past time to recognize that men and women are equal and exactly the same. Sometimes guys say this makes no sense and is contradictory and ask me to explain, but that’s an example of . . .

8. Manterrogating

This is when a man asks you to explain anything or questions anything you say. This is included but not limited to being asked to explain contradicting lines of thought or provide any actual facts or evidence to support your claims. A real man knows the only acceptable thing to do is to blindly accept anything that comes out of a woman’s mouth rather than to continue gender disparities by manterrogating her.

9. Manpacking

Similar to manspreading, (where men sit with their legs apart on the subway and take up too much room,) this is when men bring large backpacks onto the subway that take up too much room. Before you dare manterrogate me and ask why it’s a gender issue when women can have large bags too, check your privilege and realize that the only reason women have backpacks is for makeup and other items they need to measure up to the standards imposed on her by the patriarchy. If you see a woman with a large backpack taking up space, the only person you should be mad it is yourself for imposing that backpack on her with your unrealistic standards of beauty.

10. Mensoring

This is when men censor their cool partybro bro-time stories around women because they don’t think we can handle anything offensive.

Seriously? Treat us the same! It’s not like we’re easily offended or anything!
