The Ethanol Mandate Proves The Government Is A Poor Central Planner

When I took economics back in the day my instrutor told us that government was by its very nature incapable of not either creating a surplus or a shortage of what every they were trying to fix/manage. Examples are the great society created a surplus of poor and the FED created a surplus of money then the EPA has created a shortage of jobs and PC and multiculturalism created a shortage of freedom!

The federal government’s mandate to require Americans to use expensive, inefficient biofuels is so broken and dysfunctional it can’t even decide the ideal target amount of production.141121_EthanolBlog-385x200

On Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency again announced that it would not determine the amount of ethanol and biofuels required to be mixed into every American’s fuel tank for 2014 by the Energy Independence and Security Act. In 2005, Congress mandated that alternative fuels, primarily corn-based ethanol, progressively be added to gasoline and diesel and that the EPA annually adjust the targets originally set by Congress as needed. Now that 2014 is almost over, the EPA has failed again to clarify the standards. Friday’s non-decision should remind us again of some of the reasons why it’s high time Congress repeal what some have accurately labeled a “Soviet-style production quota system” for the nation’s fuel supply.

Obama to Introduce Sweeping New Controls on Ozone Emissions

There is no way to have zero pollution! A balance must be struck between no controls and controls that kill people becuase they have to energy. We have already crossed into the danger zone where the standard of living drops (lack of cheap energy) to a point that the economic system collapses.

The Obama administration is expected to release on Wednesday a contentious and long-delayed environmental regulation to curb emissions of ozone, a smog-causing pollutant linked to asthma, heart disease and premature death.

The sweeping regulation, which would aim at smog from power plants and factories across the country, particularly in the Midwest, would be the latest in a series of Environmental Protection Agency controls on air pollution that wafts from smokestacks and tailpipes. Such regulations, released under the authority of the Clean Air Act, have become a hallmark of President Obama’s administration.

Environmentalists and public health advocates have praised the E.P.A. rules as a powerful environmental legacy. Republicans, manufacturers and the fossil fuel industry have sharply criticized them as an example of costly government overreach.

The proposed regulation would lower the current threshold for ozone pollution from 75 parts per billion to a range of 65 to 70 parts per billion…

35 Years Of Unprecedented Polar Melting

FACT SHEET: EPA’s Claim That Its Coal Plant CO2 Rules Will Save Lives By Reducing Particulate Matter Emissions Is False

Progressives will do or say anything to get their way — they are nothing but spoiled brats throwing temper tantrums when they don’t get their way!

A First Look At SURFRAD

Good work — I was not aware of these stations!

Cold is warm, warm is cold, say the warmers

The Warmers have adopted a Muslim trick of religious dissimulation, or taqiyya which allows them to say what ever they want as long as it advances their Cause! Since the warming believe is not based on fact but is based on belief it is a religion and therefore this is allowed!

All Energy Transfer Is Due to Differences In Energy

Amen to that!

Tony Heller's avatarReal Climate Science

Venus is very hot, but has no weather. This is partly because they have a uniform temperature across the surface, day and night. There is no mechanism to produce heat flow. The Arctic is very cold, but has a large flow of heat, as indicated by the high frequency of storms.. Heat and temperature are different things, and should nt be conflated.

Heat flow is driven by differences in energy. Storms occur at frontal boundaries, because there is warm moist air on one side, and cold dry air on the other side.

Electricity flow is driven by differences in energy. When you purchase a 1.5 volt battery, it has 1.5 volts difference between the two terminals. Over time, the voltage difference decreases and the amount of power the batter can generate can degrade.

People build dams to increase the potential energy upstream. Similar to the glass in the greenhouse, the dam creates…

One word changes the meaning

There is one other issue that applies to Solar and Wind power generation and that is the issue of UP TIME. Since most modern coal, oil, water and nuclear plants have UP TIMES around 90% and solar and wind are 1/3 of that, that means that their effective power ratings should be reduced by 2/3’s so we can compare apples and apples. This is not an insignificant fact and it has serious ramifications when use is high like in the winter when its cold and in the summer when its hot. Last winter the grid came very close to dropping out — with less available power we will be more vulnerable to brownouts this winter!

The headline says more than 2/3  of U. S. capacity from wind in October.  They left out the word “new.”

Less energy is not GOOD for anyone!

The less energy there is available to people the poorer are the people that is fact. American energy use is way down and so is the median American household income. All this has happened in the last 6 years and this administration is continuing to reduce our ability to make energy for the people so one wonders why they are doing what they are doing?
