UK Government Downgrades Coronavirus as No Longer Highly Dangerous

The British Government has downgraded the Coronavirus from being an acute infectious disease with a high case-fatality rate. After reviewing the data, they have come to their senses. Moreover, a study released by Oxford finds that perhaps 50% of those in the UK have the virus and the overwhelming number experience it like the normal flu and have little symptoms. The study suggests that fewer than one in a thousand of those infected with Covid-19 become ill enough to need hospital treatment. So why the hysteria? There is some other agenda here!

In Italy, they are testing corpses. They are deliberately trying to attribute death to only the virus. This appears to also be a political agenda. Some are quietly suggesting behind the curtain that this has been the result of the refugees and Europe’s refusal to compensate Italy for a policy they never approved. The talk is this is perhaps laying the foundation for a separatist movement.

This begs the question as to why the panic in the United States? Why this demand to shut down the economy? This smells more like a political coup rather than a serious health threat. This is becoming CoronaGate. Is this really about trying to overthrow governments by the left?

Understanding the European Banking Crisis

QUESTION: Hi Martin,
Awhile back you mentioned the ECB doesn’t have unilateral authority to expand the money supply, and that the political crisis in Europe would begin once the ECB ran out of cash reserves. How far off are we from that moment, and how does the Repo crisis tie into that?

CG

ANSWER: Yes. To be clear, the Fed can create physical dollars to buy federal bonds to back the currency. The ECB simply has the power to create euros through its member banks, but there are no consolidated federal bonds to back the currency. This means that the ECB relies upon the consent of member states to be able to expand the money supply. That structural difference would be as if the Fed needed the approval of all 50 states to print dollars.

The very backing of banks is also substantially different. In the USA, reserves are held exclusively in US federal government instruments. In Europe, they have holdings of various member state debts. Since they have rejected the consolidation of debt, this also extends to the BAIL-IN policy. If banks are in trouble, the ECB could only lower rates. It cannot bail out banks in Italy for that would mean that money would flow from Germany to Italy. That is contrary to the no consolidation of the debt rule.

This is really one giant structural mess that I do not see being addressed until the system implodes. Only then, maybe, will the politicians revise the system or face the collapse of the entire EU structure.

G7 Cancels June Meeting Using Teleconferencing Instead

The image of a world forced to shelter in place was on display vividly last week when the Group of Seven (G7) leading industrial nations scrapped its annual June summit in favor of a teleconference — a nod to the new reality of “social distancing” in global diplomacy. At least this will save a lot of tax dollars.

CDC is a Private Organization – Not Government!

Some people have questioned my concern over both the CDC and John Hopkins University is a PRIVATE organization where the CDC accepts private funding – NOT ONLY GOVERNMENT! The CDC is quasi-government under the Department of Health and Human Services which strangely has sources of funding that are predicated on the fact that it also has a private 501(c)(3) public charity, like the Clinton Foundation. The CDC Foundation receives charitable contributions and philanthropic grants from individuals, foundations, corporations, universities, NGOs and other organizations to advance the work of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is NOT a government-funded organization. It is not exclusively a government-funded – very curious.

I have serious questions as to what is being driven by the CDC in conjunction with John Hopkins University who takes $1.8 billion from Bloomberg. The CDC and John Hopkins are either deliberately trying to create an economic depression, or are sublimely ignorant of the consequences of their scorched earth policy. Yes, we can cure contagions by sequestering everyone and shutting down the economy. We all then live on handouts from the government, stay home, don’t world, and watch TV? As one reader commented: “Mirror, Mirror, on the wall; Guess we are all socialists after all!”

Is Bloomberg Behind the John Hopkins University Virus Map that Has Scared the World?

Some people have wondered who is behind the John Hopkins University map. Is there a political connection or is this just academic incompetence? I believe it clearly warrants investigation. The people behind this graphic should be hauled into the Senate under subpoena. What they have done with a misleading graphic is virtually overthrowing all human rights and every principle of liberty that so many generations have fought for and died. My family fought in every war since the American Revolution. Even Germany has been talking about declaring Emergency Powers for one year. We have others claiming the virus will last 18 months to clearly impact the 2020 elections. The threats to our liberty are far worse than an invasion by China or Russia for that matter.

The red dots of John Hopkins University are outright propaganda and deliberately misleading in my belief. They are not current but historical. They do not disappear with the virus subsiding. Look at China – they make it seem as if the entire country were infected. They are deliberately misleading and make it appear as if whole countries are infected to support stay at home and martial law. This is propaganda on a grand scale that I have never witnessed in my 50 years of experience! John Hopkins University has been promoting the collapse of democracy, justifying the suppression of all freedom and civil liberties. We have governments declaring emergency powers to end democratic processes thanks to this misleading graphic.

The Event201 Pandemic Exercise was clearly a bunch of academics who have no sense of anything outside their own field. True, if we all sequester during the winter we could beat the common cold. But they have zero understanding of civilization, no less the economy and that the worth of any currency is the total productive capacity of the people it represents. You do NOT kill the patient to declare your victory in defeating the disease.

There are some who are starting to question if this is a deliberate coup orchestrated by the left on a global scale because all the socialistic systems they have created are collapsing and will be unsustainable come 2021. The strange coincidence is that Michael Bloomberg has donated $1.8 billion to John Hopkins University. That donation amount would naturally result in them asking how high if they were asked to jump.

Michael Bloomberg said he had no problem spending $1 Billion to Defeat Trump. Why does he hate Trump so much? His own press reported: “Bloomberg Will Spend to Beat Trump, Even If He’s Not the Nominee.” Bloomberg’s anti-Trump effort has been personal. He also said that his “organization would work to help Warren or Sanders despite his stated differences with them over a wealth tax and Medicare for All.”

Bloomberg News has joined the anti-Trump campaign. Some are deeply concerned that this virus scare has been created by John Hopkins’ map and they have Bloomberg’s $1.8 billion contributions. Do we have a HopkinsGate affair? Has this been a political coup or just academic incompetence? We should have a Senate investigation!

BTW: John Hopkins has a facility in our office complex. They are open as “essential” for what purpose? To create a historical map that will be all read but the virus has expired?

Failure of Coronavirus Bill to Address Economic Collapse

The details of the package for relief is not going to really address the crisis. The key elements of the Senate Bill that are included are:

  • $1,200 cash assistance for individuals, $2,400 for married couples and $500 for each eligible child. This money is available for all U.S. residents with an income of up to $75,000, including those with no income or who depend on social security. About 90% of Americans would qualify for government checks, though the amount decreases for those making more than $75,000 a year, with an income cap of $99,000 for individuals and $198,000 for couples.
  • A tax credit for some small businesses for 50% of wages paid to employees during the coronavirus crisis
  • Boosting Medicare payments for hospitals that treat coronavirus patients by 20% and hospitals can request accelerated payments from Medicare
  • Expands telehealth access
  • Lifts Medicare sequester, which would have cut Medicare payments by 2% and eliminates Medicare Part B cost-sharing for coronavirus vaccine
  • Provides permanent liability protection for manufacturers of personal respiratory protective equipment, such as masks and respirators, in the event of a public health emergency, to incentivize production and distribution
  • Directs the National Academies to study supply chain shortages of equipment like masks and ventilators
  • $1.3 billion in additional funding for Community Health Centers
  • Allows students to defer loan payments for six months and keep Pell Grants
  • Allow federal testing rules to be waived for K-12 students

The relief for small businesses is not adequate. A tax credit for some small businesses for 50% of wages paid to employees during the coronavirus crisis is absurd. Most have been ordered to be closed so there were no wages and they had to fire employees so they could collect unemployment. They need business loans suspended and property taxes. That will put pressure on states to lift the absurd closures.

883 Pages of Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Released…

Yikes, the text of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) has been released (full pdf below).  The Senate took H.R.748 stripped it out, and replaced the text with this bill.   The full 50 page senate record of the activity is available here.

Digging in now.  However, at first blush the size of the spending seems to be a considerable state budget deficit bailout [similar to how Obamacare removed the healthcare pension liabilities from unions].  Here’s the BILL:

It Begins – Cheesecake Factory Tells Landlords Nationwide They Will Not Pay Rent April 1st…

Think about this… How weak and tenuous does a corporate financial position need to be such that being closed for one week means informing all nationwide landlords of your inability to pay the rent next week?   Consider this example:

CALIFORNIA – The Cheesecake Factory, one of the most popular sit-down restaurant chains in the country, says it will not be able to make upcoming rent payments for any of its storefronts on April 1 because of significant loss of income due to the coronavirus crisis.

[…]  Company chairman and CEO David Overton writes, “Due to these extraordinary events, I am asking for your patience, and frankly, your help.” He continues, “we appreciate our landlords’ understanding given the exigency of the current situation.” The letter says that the company hopes to resume paying rent as soon as possible.

[…]  The Cheesecake Factory was founded in Beverly Hills in 1972 and maintains its original location on Beverly Drive, with 39 locations in California. In total, it operates 294 restaurants in 39 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Toronto, Canada. In 2019, the company also acquired Phoenix-based Fox Restaurants, including North Italia, Flower Child, and The Henry. Most of the company’s landlords are malls, including Simon and Westfield.  (read more)

This is one small example; however, it is an opportunity to imagine the beginning of a process were Blue team corporations start to tell Red team financiers they are refusing to pay their debts.

.

Expand the mindset to individuals… dependent democrats (blue team), and social justice activists, assemble to tell landlords (red team) they will not pay the rent.  It’s going to take off like wildfire.

Can you imagine the size of the smile on Bernie Sanders face if this level of social turmoil were to begin on a national scale?

Think about it…. Very carefully.

The blue team tells auto-lenders we won’t make the car payment etc.  It is a social upheaval that starts small, most dismiss it, but it spreads through the “social justice” and “resistance” community just like the coronavirus itself.

Bernie/AOC cheer the new shift and empowerment “of the people”…

See where this has the potential to go?  The Democrat Socialists align perfectly with Antifa, Occupy Wall Street and the various “dream defender” groups.  You think the yellow vest uprisings were significant….

Perhaps we are about to find out what COVID-19 is all about.

We keep watching.

Washington DC Mayor Bowser Closes U.S. Capital Until April 25th…

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser closes the nation’s capital until April 25th, effectively closing all public gatherings for one month. [Order pdf Here]

There is a certain aspect to dèjá-vu showing up on the horizon… Welcome to an economic civil war. But first, the latest details.

WASHINGTON DC –  The intent of the Order is to temporarily cease all non-essential business activities, including tour guides and touring services; gyms, health clubs, spas, and massage establishments; theaters, auditoriums, and other places of large gatherings; nightclubs; hair, nail, and tanning salons and barbershops; tattoo parlors; sales not involved in essential services; retail clothing stores; and professional services not devoted to assisting essential business operations.

The Order goes into effect on March 25, 2020, at 10 pm, through April 24, 2020 (link)

On the horizon it appears the state and regional shutdowns are going to mirror the shutdowns from Obama’s infamous sequester-fiasco from the spring of 2013.  That looks like the road-map that will be followed as the coronavirus issue starts to level-off.

Blue state governors, mayors and local officials will use the $2 trillion bailout funding scheme to keep their economies shut down as long as possible and inflict as much political damage as possible.  Meanwhile we’ll likely see red state governors, mayors and officials start to reopen their local economies.

The aligned resistance media will criticize the red state decisions, and the blue states will be heralded as more concerned about their citizens.  There will be no pressure on the blue team to reopen because they will be funding themselves from the government trough. Meanwhile the red team that wants to get back to business will find themselves limited if they took any bridge funding from the mechanism within the coronavirus bill.

Alinsky would be proud.

It’s inevitable.

Watch.. you’ll see.

Socially the COVID-19 issues will be used to weaponize, politicize and mitigate any economic recovery attempt for maximum partisan damage.  It will be an economic civil war of sorts, only this time instead of North -vs- South it’s going to be urban -vs- rural and the weapons will be economic manipulation.

Red state supplies will not be permitted to exit blue state areas.  Transit from red to red supply chains will have to travel around blue regions which will be blocked.  In this process the traditional GOP candidate -vs- DEM candidate, and weaknesses of the blue team, will be obfuscated by a national social crisis defined by regional economics and party affiliations.

There are pre-existing models for this.

Spring and summer 2020 political contests will break out exactly like this map below, except the central debate will circle around economics.  The underlying issues will be ideological…

Cincinnati Joins Growing List of Cities Suspending Police Response for Burglary, Theft and Assault…

Cincinnati Ohio joins a growing list of cities who have modified their police enforcement efforts in response to the coronavirus effort.  Cincinnati is suspending all calls for police officers when the suspect is no longer present.

The police will no longer respond to property crimes, robbery, burglary, theft, and assault without hospitalization, amid a new set of law enforcement priorities.

OHIO – […] Police will no longer respond to assault reports, unless a suspect is still present or the victim requires medical attention, breaking and entering reports unless a suspect is still present, menacing reports “unless suspect is expected or threatens to return or is part of the elements of domestic violence” or theft reports “where there is no possibility of immediate apprehension.” (link
