Can Trump Run for President From Prison?

Armstrong Economics Blog/Politics Re-Posted Sep 7, 2023 by Martin Armstrong

By no means is Trump the first to find himself in the crosshairs of the rath of government because he sought real change. Eugene Victor Debs (1855–1926) was an American socialist, political activist, and trade unionist and a founding member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). However, he was also a five-time candidate of the Socialist Party of America, running for President of the United States in 1904, 1908, 1912, and 1920 when he ran for president from prison. That’s right! It was the Democrats who also imprisoned him, and he still ran for President in 1920.

Debs ran for President from prison in the 1920 election. Many people voted for him; he received the most significant number of popular votes ever received by a Socialist Party candidate in the United States. It is important to clarify that there was also the Communist Party, which was separate and distinct from the Socialist Party at the time. It is Ironic that FDR running as a Democrat, was really advocating socialism, which Debs had advocated, except for war.

It was Woodrow Wilson who sent the Department of Justice to imprison Debs, and they used his speech against the Wilson administration for its support of World War I. Wilson was vicious and called Debs a “traitor to his country.” On June 16th, 1918, Debs made a speech in Canton, Ohio, where he urged resistance to the military draft imposed by Wilson. For that, he was arrested on June 30 and charged with ten counts of sedition.

18 USC §2383. Rebellion or Insurrection

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 808 Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, §330016(1)(L), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2147 .)

This is why I have said Trump is NOT guilty of any “insurrection” that not a single person of the over 1,000 people the DOJ has targeted for political reasons once again by the Democrats has been charged with the insurrection statute – 118 USC §2383. They are desperate to use the 14th Amendment, and the Supreme Court will never uphold such a conviction. This is why they have not charged anyone with that crime because if they lost, they would not be able to interfere in the 2024 election using the 14th Amendment.

Now that said, the very best they could ever charge Trump with would be sedition. But like Debs, he could still run for president even from a prison cell. Also, like Debs, Trump would probably get more votes than before as a martyr, as was Debs. This is why the Democrats are desperate to use the 14th Amendment that was intended against the former member of the Confederacy who waged a civil war. If we are honest, the intent behind the 14th Amendment does not apply to Trump and certainly to not more than 1,000 people they have criminally charged for just being there – most taking selfies.

Debs called no witnesses at his trial for how they used sedition in such an abusive manner that just opposing Wilson would get you life imprisonment. Debs addressed the court in his defense, knowing that the court had to politically imprison him for life because of Wilson’s ruthless character. Debs spoke for two hours and was, of course, found guilty on September 12th, 1918. The courts today are equally biased and just as corrupt and will do their best to imprison Trump in the same manner. He again addressed the court at his sentencing on September 14th, 1918. Many considered his address a political classic, even by those who opposed him. His speech was said to have inspired a nation. One press article that opposed socialism still wrote: “All those who know Eugene V. Debs must regret that his sense of duty brought him into collision with the United States government over the war.” They admitted that Debs merely spoke against war and what he believed; he thought he was right. Not that he supported the Germans; he opposed the war.

Debs’s speech that moved the nation, not the judge or Wilson:

Your honor, I have stated in this court that I am opposed to the form of our present government, that I am opposed to the social system in which we live, that I believe in the change of both but by perfectly peaceable and orderly means. …

I am thinking this morning of the men in the mills and factories; I am thinking of the women who, for a paltry wage, are compelled to work out their lives; of the little children who, in this system, are robbed of their childhood, and in their early, tender years, are seized in the remorseless grasp of Mammon, and forced into the industrial dungeons, there to feed the machines while they themselves are being starved body and soul. …

Your honor, I ask no mercy, I plead for no immunity. I realize that finally the right must prevail. I never more fully comprehended than now the great struggle between the powers of greed on the one hand and upon the other the rising hosts of freedom. I can see the dawn of a better day of humanity. The people are awakening. In due course of time they will come into their own.

Debs was sentenced to ten years in prison on September 18th, 1918, and was also disenfranchised for life. Debs presented what has been called his best-remembered statement at his sentencing hearing:

Your Honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.

The Paradox of War challenges all wisdom and comprehension, for it should be the greatest learning experience in human history, but we strangely never seem to learn from war. We all hate war if we are not in government. What are we to do when those who do not hate war as the Neocons set the world afire? What they did to Debs suggests that we are to become non-resistants and remain silent. Those who look down upon us from the seats of power expect us to obey and adopt non-resistance as a world policy and die on their command. Even the NewYorker said of Vietnam and how it was all a lie. Communism was an economic failure, and the rhetoric from the Neocons was never viable then or today. The NewYorker commented:

“We got nothing for pretty much everything we tried in Vietnam, and it’s hard to pick out a moment in those thirty years when anti-Communist forces were on a sustainable track to prevailing.”

The common people of North & South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, and China do not seek war or to occupy another country. Those are the desires of our rulers. We are merely the pawns on their chessboard, expected to obey where the best we can hope to gain is to return from war intact. The common people never gain anything, just as more than 8 million Ukrainians have fled their own country, losing everything for the territorial gains on this chessboard of the Neocons. All we can do is obey. We have no right to object – Debs established that precedent. There is no free speech when it offends them, and we do not live in a democracy since we have no direct right to vote – it’s a Republic with people pretending to represent the common folk. We have no say in war, taxes, or anything that really matters to our future and our posterity.

President Trump Takes Commanding 50 Point Primary Lead at 62% – Gains Largest Polling Lead Against Biden 42/37

Premise Polling conducted by 538 Project [DATA HERE] shows President Donald Trump with a commanding 50-point lead over the rest of the field.   President Trump holds 62% of primary voters, while Ron DeSantis shrinks even further to 12%.   This poll, along with all the state polls show a similar trend pattern.  President would win all the delegates in the key primary states.

In a head-to-head matchup with only Trump and DeSantis, President Trump crushes the Florida Governor 67% to 24%.  The demographics are again consistent with Trump dominating every subset of voter and DeSantis holding tepid support from rich white men over 55, with graduate degrees who say they don’t follow politics.

This poll reflects an almost identical outcome to the Wall Street Journal polling released a few days ago.

Additionally, in this poll President Trump is easily beating Joe Biden 42/37, while Joe Biden beats Ron DeSantis 35/33.

There are too many aligned datapoints now showing almost identical outcomes.  This reality is likely why DeSantis PAC senior official Jeff Roe recently said the next 30 to 60 days were do or die for the DeSantis operation.  They are simply running out of money.

Powerful Testimonial – President Trump’s Visit With Afghan Bombing Gold Star Families Described

Posted originally on the CTH on September 5, 2023 | Sundance

This is not going to come as a surprise to most readers here, but this testimonial by Marlon Bateman deserves to be shared. This story reflects what the core of Donald Trump is about.

Marlon Bateman – “Last week, I had the honor to accompany several Gold Star parents to meet with President Trump in Bedminster. These parents lost their children when Abbey Gate was bombed in the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, which was orchestrated by Joe Biden.

While Biden continues to ignore these families’ requests for answers, President Trump listened to them, he mourned with them, and he was genuinely devastated for their loss. But he also mourned for the Country’s loss of these amazing Americans.”

One hour came and went quicker than anticipated. Our time with the President was up — or so I thought. Many families had requested President Trump sign photographs of their sons and daughters. He then proceeded to spend nearly two hours signing hats, books, and even a pair of red, white, and blue bedazzled pair of high heel shoes! He spent time with each individual family celebrating and learning about our 13 brave American heroes.

“After each family was done, they were escorted upstairs to dinner. We did not expect President Trump to join us, but to my surprise, he came up and joined us for dinner.

Everyone erupted in cheers as he walked in. Lee Greenwood’s ‘God Bless The U.S.A’ was blaring on the speakers. He proceeded to spend another couple of hours with us and even busted out an iPad to play songs for couples to slow dance to. He even went into his all-time favorite wrestling intros!

At that moment I could see the anxiety, stress, and anger that these parents had carried for so long disappear from their faces. It was a moment of peace. They were there to celebrate the heroes they raised. Their babies grew up to be the best our country had to offer, and they were getting some of the recognition they deserved.

As the night ended and President Trump gave his farewell, tears and overwhelming emotions could not be held back. He did something for these families that the current administration has refused to do and was incapable of doing — giving an overdue moment of recognition and solidarity for their children.

Not a bullshit statement from the White House, not John Kirby sending his deepest condolences on CNN, not Joe Biden continually glancing at his watch while the bodies of their children were carried off the tarmac. He gave them hope that accountability and justice will be coming. Our country owes it to their children to continue the pursuit for truth and accountability. We must continue to tell their stories and say their names.” (source)

Iowa Republican Party Begins to Make Their Move Against MAGA – Reminder of The Core Battle

Posted originally on the CTH on September 3, 2023 | Sundance

Before outlining the moves of the GOPe/RNC/RGA as they are unfolding in Iowa, it is absolutely critical for people to understand the landscape of American politics.

The functional mission of the UniParty apparatus is not based on ideology; the core and consequential baseline revolves around the business of American politics and the motives of the people who control the institutions within it.  For this outline I focus only on the Republican wing, the GOP corporation, one side of the professional business apparatus.

WRITE THIS DOWN and force yourself to remember it every day.  “The Republican Party priority is to retain their business, to control the outcomes, and this has nothing to do with winning elections.”  The RNC would rather lose elections and retain power, than win elections and lose operational control over the apparatus.

In the past several decades, the motive of a Republican or Democrat politician advancing their influence by running for political office has absolutely nothing to do with representing the interests of the American people.  Nothing.  Their interests are to engage within the business of politics, while presenting themselves as qualified actors to retain the premise of political service.  This is why they will spend $10 million to win an office that only pays $400k/yr.

The business of buying, selling and controlling policy, is the core operation of people within the US political system.  As an outcome, the business has two wings – the RNC and the DNC.  Two private corporations inside the political industry who are in place to retain the overall business model.  The RNC and DNC are both funded by the same interests, banks, corporations, Wall St interests, and even foreign interests who purchase outcomes.

The RNC and DNC are two operational wings inside the industry of politics.  The are in the same business, but they have slightly different business models.

The Republicans (RNC) want money, the Democrats (DNC) want power.  The Republicans use power to get money, the Democrats use money to get power.  The donor activity of the Republicans drives their agenda.  The agenda of the Democrats drives their donor activity.  It is a subtle nuance, but once you really understand it, everything falls into place.

The Republican politicians are ambivalent to the outcomes of the Democrats.  The Republican group only cares about the money.  Threaten the power of the Democrats and you get a toxic and violent response.  Threaten the money of the Republicans and you get exactly the same level of response.

Democrats are triggered when you threaten their power, their ability to control.  Republicans are triggered when you threaten their money, their ability to enrich.

The primary of 2024 is the election season when we see firsthand this corporate battle explode inside in the Republican group.  Decades of entrenched power are at stake, and there have been four years of counter positioning and backroom discussion leading up to this moment.

As a consequence, and I know this might sound odd to many people – but winning and/or losing elections becomes a secondary issue.  The people who control the RNC as a private corporation, the people who fund the business, are not focused on winning elections. The RNC corporation is focused on retaining mission control.

The RNC want to give the illusion of support for MAGA conservatism, because the illusion of choice requires a base voter.  However, every move they make on an operational level is exactly in line with their previous outlook toward cocktail-class corporate republicanism.  The MAGA base of support cannot trust this corporate group, and we must not be blind or unguarded about the Machiavellian schemes they construct.

Donald Trump is not a problem for the Republican Party; Donald Trump is our response to the problem within the Republican Party.

Republicans are far more violent, hate-filled and vitriolic than Democrats when their money is threatened.  As long as the money is not threatened, Republicans happily play the game and permit the Democrats to purchase their votes and support.  However, threaten the money of the Republicans, and they will be the very first to go nuclear… including the intentional loss of any/all elections in order to preserve their stake.

This dichotomy, ambivalence and illusion, is what you saw in the 2018 midterms, 2020 general and 2022 midterms from the professional Republicans.  The MAGA team, who identify as Republicans as a method for ballot entry, are the only ones who will fight to change this dynamic.  Therefore, the Republican Party views the MAGA insurgents as the enemy that must be removed.

Now, to Iowa…

The Republican Party of Iowa Central Committee has refused to set a date by which a voter must choose Republican voter affiliation in order to participate in the January 15 caucus.  The private club is positioning to block the MAGA insurgency and advance the DeSantis operation; because if the approved RNC candidate doesn’t win in Iowa, Godzilla Trump will take the momentum and destroy the club.

The result is that Iowa Democrats (who have screwed up their own caucuses, so they will be free on Jan. 15) will swarm the Republican caucuses to cause mischief.  Iowans, who are not stupid, know exactly what “mischief” means in this context.  At best it means a rough night and some bruises.  At worst, ask Joe Biggs.

This is an inside job by the Republican Party of Iowa.  During the legislative session earlier this year, they were all set to pass a bill setting the deadline for registration at 70 days prior to the caucus date.  Then, suddenly, the “lawyers” said legislators had to take that provision out, and that the Republican Party of Iowa would handle it by resolution.

The private corporation needs control.

As we have witnessed in Georgia, watch the professional party apparatus in Iowa align with a singular mission, to protect their business model.

In Iowa – the SEA ISLAND DeSantis crew have funded and planted Asa Hutchinson and Mike Pence to camp out.  They are supported by Governor Kim Reynolds.  The goal is to use the Jeff Roe Cruz Crew, and roughly 1,000 paid Never Back Down (NBD) conscripts to do the Astroturf.

Let me emphasize a key point.  The Republican Party is not positioning to win the 2024 election. The goal of the Republican Party is to remove the threat represented by Donald Trump.  When you start there, all of the RNC weaknesses or flaws look very different, very purposeful.

Donald J. Trump isn’t the cause of the Republican failure; he is the result of their failure.

The people in control of Republican Club do not care who is in the White House, that is a secondary objective.  What they care about right now is controlling the Republican corporation and stopping the hostile takeover.

Murdoch Sad – WSJ Post Debate Poll Shows Support for DeSantis Collapsing, Pre-Debate 24%, Post-Debate 13%

Posted originally on the CTH on September 2, 2023 | Sundance

Rupert Murdoch has big sad as his Wall Street Journal outlet admits their poll looks terrible for Ron DeSantis.  [WSJ HERE] Currently with only 13% support, DeSantis’s position has collapsed since April, when WSJ showed 24% backed him.

Additionally, Chris Christie and Mike Pence are the two candidates with the highest unfavorable rating by Republican voters, -73% and -63% respectively.  Respondents show their opinion worsening mostly due to Christie and Pence position against frontrunner Donald Trump.

It looks like the Wall Street and RNC Big Club donors are now eyeing Nikki “test the wind” Haley, as the best option to try and stop Godzilla Trump. This shift likely explains why DeSantis’s campaign operative Jeff Roe was begging donors for another $50 million last week, as discovered in leaked audio from meetings with them during the high-brow events in Wisconsin.

Wall Street Journal – […] At 13% support, DeSantis’s position has collapsed since April, when 24% backed him in a slightly different field of candidates tested by the Journal.

GOP primary voters believe businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and former Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, far more than any other candidates, exceeded expectations in the televised Aug. 23 GOP debate among eight of Trump’s rivals. But those impressions so far haven’t turned into significant ballot support, with Haley the first choice of 8% and Ramaswamy at 5%.

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, who has cast himself as an affable warrior for conservative causes, has made little headway after three months of campaigning, drawing 2% support.

Republicans nationally are rejecting the candidates who most sharply criticize Trump: Former Govs. Chris Christie of New Jersey and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas drew 3% and 1% support, respectively. Christie is the most unpopular GOP candidate tested, with 73% holding an unfavorable view of him.

The image of former Vice President Mike Pence, who turned aside Trump’s request to block Congress from certifying the 2020 vote, has tarnished among primary voters. In April, 54% viewed him favorably. Now, 30% view him favorably, and 63% have an unfavorable view. He’s the choice of 2% for the party nomination.

“DeSantis collapsed,” said Bocian. “The one candidate who back in April really seemed to be a potential contender, seemed to have a narrative to tell, has totally collapsed, and those votes went to Trump.” (read more)

Last point… Watch Noem

Originally the Sea Island group had a DeSantis/Noem ticket as their best outcome. Noem now looks to be positioning herself as the 2024 Mike Pence VP option.

Remember, whoever is VP in 2024 will likely be the nominee in 2028. The Big Club always plays the long game.

Stay elevated.

Stay unemotional.

Stay strategic in outlook.

McConnell will not last.  South Dakota Senator John Thune will replace him.

Thune and Noem, compatriots from South Dakota, would have a Koch inspired nudge-nudge/wink-wink outlook to undermine Trump policy agenda 2025 through 2029.

Accept things as they are, not as we would wish them to be. This is a generational battle. We didn’t get into this mess in one election cycle, and we are not going to get ourselves out of this mess in one election cycle.

This is what cozying up looks like:

President Trump Pleads Not Guilty and Waives Arraignment Appearance

Posted originally on the CTH on August 31, 2023 | Sundance

Smart move by President Trump not to appear in court today thereby starving the media of oxygen to push the anti-Trump narrative. ‘I do hereby freely and voluntarily waive my right to be present at my arraignment on the Indictment and my right to have it read to me in open court,’ he said in a filing submitted by his local attorney.

Strategically, it was also a brilliant counter-Lawfare move as it removes the power of corrupt DA Fani Willis to grandstand from the courtroom holding the appearance of Trump in Atlanta, GA, as a trophy for her tribe.  Remember, Lawfare is a construct for media consumption intended to manipulate public opinion.

The more you starve the Lawfare operatives of the oxygen they need, the stronger your offense against their schemes.

(Via Politico) – Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges that he conspired to subvert the 2020 election in Georgia, formally signaling his intent to fight the charges in the sprawling racketeering case brought by Fulton County prosecutors.

Trump entered his plea Thursday in a two-page court filing meant to waive his appearance at an arraignment scheduled for Sept. 6, when he was slated to have the charges read to him in court. Several of the 18 defendants charged alongside him have also waived their appearances at the scheduled arraignment. (read more)

We are living in an era that requires strategic thinking, not emotion.

Alinsky methods, like Lawfare, are designed to target your emotional and psychological response system.  If you struggle with the emotions of anger and frustration, take a walk, get your emotional self under control, then you can return with a cold, deliberate and calculated response.  This is not easy; it takes mental discipline.

Make the enemy eat up their mental and emotional space with thoughts and “what if’s” about you.  Meanwhile, you stay frosty and clear-headed.
