China Implements 15% Tariff on US Coal

Posted originally on Feb 7, 2025 by Martin Armstrong

Trade War 2

China is hitting back with 15% tariffs on US coal. America sent 11.6 million tons of coal to China, with 6.46% of all US coal imports flowing into China. Climate zealots are cheering the move, and those on the far left are pleased that this will disproportionately hurt red states.

The majority of the coal exported to China from the US came from West Virgina (6 million tons). West Virginia generated 14% of all coal production in the nation, but sends a larger share to China. Wyoming is the leading coal producing state, accounting for 41.2% of production. Pennsylvania accounts for 6.7%, and Illinois, while not a red state, generated 6.3%. Kentucky is another mass producer, accounting for 5% of all US coal.

Could China be targeting red states specifically? Perhaps. Canada outright intended to do so to hurt Trump’s supporters. China does not heavily rely on the US for coal as it purchases most of its coal from Australia, Indonesia, Russia, and Mongolia. Australia is the world’s leading supplier of coal coming in at 33.7%, while America only produces about 7%.

The largest importer of US coal is none other than India. India has been the main middleman in these sanctions and tariff battles from Russia to China. India received 28.2 mnth in the first 11 months of 2024, marking an 8% annual increase. China upped their purchases of coal from India by 54% last year on an annual basis.

These tariffs and sanctions are completely counterproductive. China and the US were strong trade partners and, more important than goods, the US could rely on China to buy its debt. Those days are long gone as the two have become economic enemies.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Sets the Record Straight on DOGE Work Within the Treasury Dept

U.S Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appears for an interview with Bloomberg, to set the record straight.  Bessent says Elon Musk and his DOGE government efficiency team are not “tinkering” with any federal payment data. He says the group does important work, and two of the DOGE analysts are Treasury Dept employees.

Secretary Bessent also talks about the strength of the US dollar, President Donald Trump’s agenda and meeting with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and more.  The remarks about DOGE are at the front of the interview. WATCH:

Former USAID Administrator Samantha Power Appears on CBS Late Night to Defend Institutional Interests

Posted originally on the CTH on February 6, 2025 | Sundance

Former USAID Administrator Samantha Power, the architect of the “Responsibility to Protect” doctrine (R2P) traveled to CBS HQ in New York for a late-night television appearance with Stephen Colbert.   The purpose of Power’s appearance was to defend the institutional interests of her former agency, as USAID comes under scrutiny for ridiculous spending and manipulation of foreign and domestic politics.

Mrs. Power does her very best Sally Stuthers impersonation as she claims the only purpose of USAID is to facilitate charity and life-saving public health in “underserved nations” around the world.  Colbert never asked her, if true – then why spend time in healthy Hungary and well-fed Europe? I digress.

Similarly, if the mission of USAID is as Mrs. Power described, then why was she never describing that ‘humanitarian relief’ type of activity in all of her self-promotion videos that she distributed during her travel.  I am going to post a short example below the Colbert video so you can watch it, listen to what Power says in her own words about her objective, and then contrast that against the USAID mission as she proclaims on Late Night television.

.

Below is USAID Administrator Samantha Power traveling Europe talking about her priority mission on behalf of USAID.  Contrast her remarks on Colbert with her actual remarks during her travels.  Notice her emphasis on “building media,” how many starving children in the Sudan are fed by building out a media influence system in Europe?

USAID in Hungary

In that short video, Samantha Power, the U.S. State Dept (USAID) and CIA, are essentially admitting to running a political influence operation in Hungary, seeding the groundwork for another color revolution.  They were not trying to hide it at the time.  However, with newly awakened Americans now looking at the revelations from within the USAID review, suddenly the mission changes to feeding starving children in Africa.

This USAID cover story to make the CIA control opaque was always the element people struggled to see.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

How much did Paramount Global or CBS receive from USAID?
