Earlier today President Donald Trump made an unannounced trip to Arlington National Cemetery to pay his respects to deceased veterans and celebrate “National Wreaths Across America Day”.   Christmas wreaths are laid at the grave sites of fallen soldiers at Arlington and many other cemeteries around the country.

Via Commerce Dept – “Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for November 2018 were $513.5 billion, an increase of 0.2 percent from the previous month, and 4.2 percent above November 2017. Total sales for the September 2018 through November 2018 period were up 4.3 percent from the same period a year ago.”

Two-thirds of U.S. GDP stems from U.S. consumer sales. Growth of more than 4% year-over-year is excellent and forms the basis for the increases in forecast GDP.

OMB Director Mick Mulvaney was the favorite for many people; he was the MAGA choice.  President Trump has announced that Mick Mulvaney will take over for John Kelly as Chief of Staff.

President Donald Trump goes on offense with a video message on border security.  President Trump highlights the past statements by democrat leaders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for a border security wall.

President Trump knows his position on the border security wall is the majority view within the American electorate.  He is coaxing his political opposition into a corner.  Additionally, in an effort to prop-up their ideological allies, the corporate media will avoid this.

Earlier today President Trump met with the newly elected governors of various states and introduces them to key cabinet officials who they will be working with during their tenure. At the conclusion of the introductions the President also took a few questions from the media (transcript below).

All of them had great victories. Some had very, very outstanding victories, in terms of the percentage of victory, and even surprising. We have some real stars in the room. And they became stars because of the way they handled themselves. I could almost say — I think I could pretty much say, Mike, most of them have become stars, if not all. Because you won. Winning is a wonderful thing. (Laughter.)

So I thought what I’d do is go around the room, and maybe you could just introduce yourself; say hello. We have some Cabinet members, too. You can quickly introduce yourself, because we’ve all seen you guys. But I’d love to — maybe say a couple of words. And it’s an honor to have you all.

We’d like to be able to speed some of this up with the Army Corps. I know you’ll be supportive of that. And you’ve been real supportive of Florida. So thank you.

THE PRESIDENT: We are very much involved with Lake Okeechobee. And a lot of problems in Florida can be solved by doing that properly. They’ve been trying to do it for 30 years. So we’ll get it done, okay? Good job.

Q Mr. President, quick question about Michael Flynn. Mr. President —

Q Any update on (inaudible) your next Chief of Staff?

THE PRESIDENT: We’re interviewing people now for Chief of Staff, yes.

Q How long is the short list now?

THE PRESIDENT: Five people. Really good ones. Terrific people. Mostly well known, but terrific people.

Q Mr. President, quick question about Michael Flynn. As you know, Judge Emmet Sullivan has asked the Office of Special Counsel and the FBI for the documents related to the interview of Michael Flynn. Do you —

THE PRESIDENT: That’s great.

Q — do you believe that the FBI acted improperly in how they handled his interview?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, the FBI said Michael Flynn — a general and a great person — they said he didn’t lie. And Mueller said, “Well, maybe he did.” And now they’re all having a big dispute. So I think it’s a great thing that the judge is looking into that situation. That’s a — that’s an honor for a lot of terrific people.

WASHINGTON DC –  President Trump has canceled the White House holiday party for the media, making the decades-old tradition a victim of his increasingly contentious relationship with major news organizations.

The annual Christmas-season gathering was a significant perk for those covering the White House, as well as other Washington reporters, anchors and commentators, and New York media executives would regularly fly in for the occasion. At its peak, the invitation-only soirees grew so large that there were two back-to-back events, one for broadcast outlets and one for print organizations.

Journalists who attended the events, which featured a catered buffet of lamb chops, crab claws and elaborate desserts, got to roam the decorated mansion with a spouse or other family member, a friend or a colleague, adding to the invitation’s allure.  (read more)
