On Nominating a President of the United States

Post By Prof. Paul Eidelberg

Since America is suffering from collective amnesia or from generations of educators lacking a due sense of national pride and purpose, allow me to say a few words about the original and now obsolete method of nominating a President of the United States.  The following is only an extract from my book on the Constitution…..

  1. The method of nominating the President was the most protracted issue of the debates of the American Constitutional Convention. A dozen methods were considered until James Madison put the issue to rest by pointing out that the nomination of the President should not depend on any fixed or permanent institution of government, for the President would then be dependent on that institution, especially if he sought reelection. Such dependency would lead to political intrigue and undermine the President’s integrity.
  1. For these and other reasons, the Founders designed the Electoral College system. Although this system never worked effectively after 1800, its underlying principles actually reveal the highest caliber of statesmanship. Under this system, a President would enter office without knowing who were his electors, since they would meet in their respective state capitals and ballot secretly for two candidates, at least one not from their own state. Given the lack of communications in those days, a President would enter office without the “political debts” that have long encumbered presidents since the ascendancy of nationally organized political parties, presidential primaries, massive fund-raising, and the omnipresent media. Therefore, it behooves us to design a method of election that fosters, rather than undermines, the independence and integrity of a President. We need to design a method conducive to the formulation of wise national policies, policies that will enhance the people’s sense of national dignity and national purpose…..

What does Republican Party stand for?

Over the past 10 or 15 years The Republican Party (GOP) has split into two factions, comprising the national leadership or the GOPe (e is for establishment) and the conservative faction better known as the Tea Party or the vulgarians. The Tea Party Faction was dismissed as irrelevant after 2010 (wishful thinking) but has now almost taken over local elections causing problems for the GOPe. Digressing a bit the Democrat Party has also split into two factions the Progressive faction and what was called in the past the Blue Dog faction. The counter part to the Tea Party in the DNC is the Blue Dogs faction and they have been completely marginalized and have little to no influence in the party today. The DNC is for all practical purposes now a supporter of Marxists principles and very anti-American (meaning a belief in the constitution). The picture below is of a modern day vulgarian

So what we, in effect, have is the GOPe faction and the Progressive faction of the Democrats being basically for the same things as their donor base is also the same. The two together are the Washington establishment which together with their donors are now forming into an oligarchy or in simpler terms the Ruling Class; what has no use for the Constitution or the vulgarians. Some also call this the New World order and if you throw in the like minded leader for the European Union yes that is what this movement is.

The GOPe did not expect to get control of the Congress and so after 2010 and 2014 they didn’t know what to do as they wanted the same things as the Progressive Democrat’s did even though their base didn’t. Prior to being forced into having a majority in the Senate the GOPe excuse for not doing anything was that they didn’t have control of the Senate; with that changed in 2014 their only excuse was that Obama would veto reforms so why bother. The 2014 election worried the GOPe that if they ran a good candidate in 2016 that they could win the US Presidency and that would be a problem for the GOPe and the Progressive Democrat’s so a plan was need to prevent that from happening.

The plan of the Ruling Class after 2014 was first they would run Hillary for President and she would complete the fundamental transformation (the De-facto elimination of the US Constitution) that Obama started. The GOPe would run Jeb Bush who was not expected to win as they would run a campaign like Mitt Romney did in 2012. That way the Congress could be neutralize as Hillary could veto any real change and it would be very unlikely that the Tea Party faction could get the GOPe up to 60 votes in the Senate. This deadlock would then be used to complete their plan and by 2020 it would be impossible to change; so their transformation would be complete and the republic with be gone.

When Trump entered the race for the Republican Party and started to win in the polls everyone in the Ruling Class went into a panic and an all out attack was started to stop him. Karl Rove’s operation hummingbird, Super PACs adds, manipulated polls, where possible, and control of the moderators in the debates as we have seen were focused on all the outsiders: Trump, Carson and Cruz in their attempt to eliminate them. Bush was left aside and/or given soft ball questions so he wouldn’t be hurt and could come back later after the outsiders were eliminated. So far the vulgarians have been able to keep the Ruling Class at bay but that is only through to use of the web and talk radio, if that gets shut down it will be hard to communicate and The Ruling Class could win. Trump does have a lot of money and he could counter this free speech blocking but at that level it would be borderline revolution so let’s hope we don’t go there.

It would be nice if the ones at the bottom would play nice as they have little chance and are being used to make the ones toward the top look bad. That hasn’t really work in the poling but it may have an effect later on for the party in general. Although it does seem the RNC/GOPe would rather lose to Hillary then nominate Trump Carson of Cruz.

Apprentice Secretary of State

Among other things trump is famous for his long running ‘Apprentice’ TV series and since today the media or pop culture is where you make or break a person’s credibility and popularity it would seem to me that a ‘show’ of some kind could be made using that format. For example, a skit with Donald interviewing candidates for various offices in Washington DC. There are many variations on how this could be done from Apprentice VP to Apprentice Secretary of State.

Maybe the first one would be Donald interviewing Hillary and Kerry for Secretary of State along with someone he would like when he is elected.  SNL could run a segment every week and it could be for current and past leaders and I’m sure it would be a Yugh hit.
