When is a Veto Not a Veto, When Kristi Noem Needs The Political Cover

Just a short note to bookmark for later 2024 reference about political opportunism and parseltongue.  You might remember South Dakota Kristi Noem being adamant that she was not vetoing a legislative bill blocking male (transgender) athletes from Women’s sports. [HERE]  Yesterday she took action to send the bill back to the state house.  Read the rejection letter from the governor’s office:

Note: “bills returned shall be treated in the same manner as vetoed bills”…. with her signature; yet she still proclaims she did not veto the bill.

It’s a small note, but a note worth making nonetheless.  For a politician who claims she speaks frankly and truthfully, there’s a great deal of parseltongue, a decepticon trait, on this one.  Disappointing, just sayin’.

When asked why she doesn’t support the bill, Noem said she has received advice and counsel that the law would fail if challenged in federal court. Specifically Noem implied the NCAA would sue South Dakota and she believes the state would lose a lawsuit based on the law. If that is her position, essentially she is attempting to avoid litigation, proactively planning to lose that litigation, on a law supported by the majority in her state.

Terrorism Charges Dismissed by Judge Against Three Men Accused of Plotting to Kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Jackson County District Judge Michael Klaeren (Michigan 12th District) has removed charges of terrorism against three men accused in a plot to kidnap governor Gretchen Whitmer.  According to the Detroit News, judge Klaeren said: ” “There has to be some form of intent here to incite mayhem”, and no evidence in that regard has been presented.  The terrorism charges fail for lack of evidence.

MICHIGAN – […] The charges were dismissed against Paul Bellar of Milford and Joseph Morrison and Pete Musico of Munith. They are among seven men accused of having ties to the militia group Wolverine Watchmen who are charged in the alleged plot. The others include Shawn Fix of Belleville, Eric Molitor of Cadillac, Michael Null of Plainwell and William Null of Shelbyville. The men had faced a total of 19 felony charges for firearms and terror-related acts.

After onboarding new members through mediums such as Facebook, the group’s conversations took place in encrypted chats. The limited nature of those chats is why the threat charge was dismissed, Klaeren said.

[…] The three will stand trial on the three remaining charges, Klaeren said. Each are charged with gang membership and providing material support for terrorism, both punishable by up to 20 years in prison, as well as felony firearm, punishable by up to two years in prison.

The gang membership charge and the felony firearms charge were dependent on the material support for terrorism charge, Klaeren said. (read more)

The trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd, began today with opening arguments. Officer Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Forensic evidence showed that George Floyd died from a “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.” Other significant conditions were listed as “arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease; fentanyl intoxication; recent methamphetamine use.” (link)

A memorandum filed by the Hennepin County Attorney’s office on June 1 indicated that chief medical examiner Dr. Andrew Baker, who listed Floyd’s death as a homicide, thought the amount of fentanyl in Floyd’s blood was “pretty high” and could be “a fatal level of fentanyl under normal circumstances.” “[Dr. Baker] said that if Mr. Floyd had been found dead in his home (or anywhere else) and there were no other contributing factors he would conclude that it was an overdose death,” the memo said.

Opening statements began this morning.  The trial in in recess until 12:15pm ET / 11:15am CT  [Livestream Links Below]

Oakland California Begins $500/Month Payments to Low Income Residents, White People Not Allowed

Oakland California is beginning a pilot for giving low income families $500/month with no strings attached for up to 600 families.  The goal is to bridge the income disparity gap; however, poor white residents are not permitted to apply for the program. {Details Here}

According to CBS: […] “Oakland’s project is significant because it is one of the largest efforts in the U.S. so far, targeting up to 600 families. And it is the first program to limit participation strictly to Black, Indigenous and people of color communities.

The reason: White households in Oakland on average make about three times as much annually than black households, according to the Oakland Equity Index. It’s also a nod to the legacy of the Black Panther Party, the political movement that was founded in Oakland in the 1960s.” (read more)

Poverty is the one class distinction that doesn’t have a racial component.  Ask anyone who grew up with little money or wealth and you will find those people are the least racist people you could ever meet.  Poverty cuts across all cultural and racial lines… of course, as customary for ideological maintenance, the far-leftists have to pretend not to know things.

Boulder, Colorado, law enforcement have named the suspect in the King Sooper’s grocery store shooting yesterday. The shooter is 21-year-old Ahmad al-Aliwi Alissa.

WASHINGTON POST – Ten people killed at a Colorado grocery store, including a Boulder police officer, have been identified, as has the 21-year-old rifle-wielding shooter.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, was shot in the leg as he carried out the attack with a rifle, and was in the hospital on Tuesday morning, prior to being booked into jail and charged with 10 counts of murder in the first degree. They offered no details on a suspected motive. (link)

And just like that the media will drop the story, because the shooter is not a white male and subsequently his race and ethnicity does not align with the preferred narrative for gun control suspects.

Florida Real Estate

Armstrong Economics Blog/Real Estate Re-Posted Mar 23, 2021 by Martin Armstrong

QUESTION: Hey Martin, You once described? the real estate market as a lake. You went on to compare the collapse of the real estate market to throwing a rock in the lake and eventually the waves will hit every shore? You have published the diagram of the Real Estate cycle and the market clearly hits bottom in 2033. When do you expect prices in Tampa to begin the decline as well?

HT

ANSWER: The shift in real estate from urban to suburban was an amazing forecast by Socrates. I had originally assumed it would probably be due to sharply rising local taxes. While that seems to be part of it as cities are raising property taxes to make up for the loss in revenue from the Draconian lockdowns, as I have said many times, the fundamentals seem to unfold to make the forecast correct. That is something that has always astonished me.

The Florida real estate reflects not just the migration from urban to suburban, but a massive migration from up north to the south. The flight from New York to Florida has become legendary with restaurants fleeing NYC as well. The house I bought is up about 300% already. This is the 34th straight quarter rise. The market is so white-hot that places are selling in 1 to 3 days. With 30-year fixed-rate mortgages at 3.27%, the market has been supported by low rates.

We should see a retest of support in the second quarter. So, this may be a temporary top here in the 1st quarter of 2021.

Having a “Family” Now Offends WOK

Armstrong Economics Blog/Opinion Re-Posted Mar 22, 2021 by Martin Armstrong

Now New York Schools are telling students not to mention their “mother” or “father” because that is offensive to someone who does not have a family. So what is next? It is starting to stir the pot that wedding rings are offensive and symbolize a modern form of slavery? The status symbolism of a wedding ring is simply a universally understood statement that a metal band on the left ring finger makes: Yoy belong to someone, and they belong to you. The whole idea of family values seems to be destined to be offensive to someone, somewhere, at some time. That appears to be the criteria that the entire society must change as to not offend the tiny fraction of people who find it to be modern slavery. Typically, this indicates someone who perhaps has never been able to connect with another person so marriage has never been proposed.

So, if children call their mother “mother” and this is now offensive, then are we at the very place of Russian Communism? Children were taught that the STATE was their parents and if your biological parents spoke against the government, the children should report them to the police. Just how far down the Rabbit Hole are we going? I am offended by big government and Marxism. Can we ban that now too? Please!
