Did the original scope memo from Rod Rosenstein in May 2017 authorize Team Mueller to investigate allegations in the Steele Dossier?… Allegations that were already debunked by the FBI four months earlier in mid-January 2017?
There’s more than a little irony in this brief CNN soundbite where Evan Perez is discussing the FBI’s fraudulent FISA applications. On January 10th, 2017, it was the same Evan Perez along with CNN’s Jim Sciutto, who were operating as conduits from the FBI ‘small group’ to push the Steele Dossier as a valid investigative document. {Go Deep}
Evan Perez, Jim Sciutto, Jake Tapper and Carl Bernstein were working together with the FBI group headed by James Comey, to push the legitimacy of the Steele Dossier.
While the CNN crew was coordinating with the FBI; literally two days before the FBI renewed the FISA warrant on January 12th; and shortly after CNN pushed the narrative; FBI agents visited the U.K, interviewed Steele’s primary sub-source and determined the dossier was garbage. It was the Steele Dossier being identified as garbage that made the FISA renewals invalid…. the same Dossier that Evan Perez was promotingin 2017:
.
Inspector General Michael Horowitz informs us in his report the FBI determined the dossier was bunk “shortly after” the January 12, 2017, FISA renewal.
CNN reported on the Dossier on January 10th, 2017. Buzzfeed published the Dossier hours later as an outcome of the January 10th CNN report. We now know the FBI was leaking this information for this purpose. Less than 48 hours later, the FISA application that relied on the Dossier was renewed by the FBI on January 12th, 2017.
Shortly after the FBI renewed the FISA, FBI agents interviewed Steele’s primary sub-source and determined the Dossier was junk. That is why the DOJ is currently informing the FISA Court all activity after that interview made the FISA applications invalid. The FBI knew in mid-January 2017 the Dossier was debunked.
Without the Steele Dossier, there would be no FISA warrant.
The Steele Dossier was the investigative virus the FBI wanted and needed inside the system. To get the virus into official status, they used the FISA application as the delivery method and injected it into Carter Page. The FBI already knew Carter Page; essentially Carter Page was irrelevant, what they needed was the FISA warrant and the surveillance justifications it provided. The Dossier was how to get it. {Go Deep}.
Fusion GPS was not hired simply to research Donald Trump, the intelligence community was already doing a variety of surveillance and spy operations. The intelligence community needed Fusion GPS to give them a plausible justification, to obtain a surveillance warrant, to cover pre-existing surveillance and spy operations.
Fusion-GPS gave the FBI the justification they needed for a FISA warrant with the Steele Dossier. Ultimately that’s why the Steele Dossier is so important; without it, the DOJ and FBI are naked with their FISA-702 database abuse and 2016 surveillance operations.
That’s why the FBI small group, which later transitioned into the Mueller team, were so strongly committed to -and defending- the formation of the Steele Dossier and its dubious content. The Steele Dossier contained the cover-story and justification for the overall surveillance operation. Ultimately, without the dossier they wouldn’t get the Mueller investigation…. Everything was contingent upon that Steele Dossier.
Perhaps the FBI knowing the Dossier was garbage in mid-January 2017 is why we are not permitted to see the May 2017 scope memo written by DAG Rod Rosenstein to authorize Robert Mueller. Does the original scope memo authorize Team Mueller to investigate the allegations in the Dossier?… Allegations that were already debunked four months earlier?
The original FISA application was October 21st, 2016. The first FISA renewal was January 12, 2017 (84 days from origination). The second renewal was April 7, 2017 (85 days from prior renewal). The third renewal was on June 29th, 2017 (83 days from prior renewal).
The DOJ has now attested to the FISC the FISA application on April 7, 2017, and the FISA application of June 29th were invalid. However, the DOJ has not taken a position on the validity of the original application, Oct 21, 2016, or the first renewal of January 12, 2017.
The FBI has agreed to “sequester” all information and evidence received as an outcome of all the FISA warrants issued against Carter Page. Meaning, all material, in any court proceeding or subsequent secondary warrant on another target, application, filing, motion, prosecution or downstream use of the information gathered and obtained; the FBI will now assemble all materials, from any location, that stemmed from the Carter Page FISA warrants.
In essence, the FBI will now look and retrieve any evidence that stemmed as an outcome of the Carter Page FISA warrant. Some of this material *may* (perhaps likely) will be in the Special Counsel Mueller investigation.
[ie. a proverbial search for the fruit of a poisonous tree. Where is it?]
Once the sequestration has taken place, the DOJ will then be able to determine to the court what collateral impacts they have identified.
The DOJ has yet to inform the court how exactly they plan to do this, or when they anticipate to have completed the task. However, the FBI has agreed to undertake this sequestration for ALL of the FISA applications, not just the two renewals they now admit are invalid. READ:
The issue of the validity for the October 21st, 2016, originating FISA application; and/or the issue of the validity for the first renewal January 12th, 2017, is not yet determined.
The FISC brief outlines the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), who is currently doing a review of all FISA applications, will be the one assist the DOJ in reaching that conclusion.
Worth noting in the second paragraph (above): “pending further review of the OIG report and the outcome of any investigations or litigation.” This was a statement made by the DOJ in response to the FISC. It is possible the ongoing investigation by U.S. Attorney John Durham is part of this encompassing statement.
The second page of the order by Judge Boasberg is essentially him relaying the law surrounding FISA applications; warning the DOJ that false material submissions -which the DOJ has just admitted- are illegal; and Boasberg wanting to know answers to the same questions many of us have.
Essentially, Judge Boasberg is asking: what did the FBI do with the Title-1 surveillance warrant they received from the court? What material did they collect? Was that material then used in other proceedings and: “disseminated to DOJ prosecutors and other persons outside the FBI”?
The presiding fisa judge also wants to know what the DOJ is doing. Explain what “further review of the OIG report” means? Inform the court what “related investigations and litigation” pertains to, etc:
A note of caution. It seems incredulous the DOJ cannot apply the same determination of invalid construct to the original FISA application and first renewal. However, the key issue is with the Steele Dossier – the essential evidence underpinning the FISA itself; and the key question is when did the FBI and/or DOJ know with certainty the Steele Dossier was unfounded and did not merit legal inclusion for the warrant?
By their current admissions, as outlined by Judge Boasberg, the DOJ is admitting that between January 12th and April 7th current investigators are certain there was sufficient information debunking the Steele Dossier, known to the former FBI and DOJ officials, such that no further application (renewal) should have taken place.
Interestingly this timeline and DOJ admission would include the Mueller investigation use of any FISA derived material or evidence when it began May 17, 2017; that is, if the Mueller probe used the Carter Page FISA evidence for any derivative warrant therein.
It seems likely the Mueller probe did use the Page warrant, as former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and former DOJ Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein authorized the June 29, 2017, final renewal AFTER the special counsel was in place. That renewal has been admitted as invalid. There could be considerable consequences.
During a Senate trial break President Trump attorney Jay Sekulow gives a short presser to rebut some of the more egregious disinformation from the House prosecutors.
Sekulow smartly connects the lengthy Schiff prosecution point about foreign interference in U.S. elections to Nellie Ohr, the wife of the third ranking DOJ official, Bruce Ohr, working for Fusion-GPS and Hillary Clinton while contracting with British and Ukraine officials for an investigation into Donald Trump. ie. actual foreign interference.
.
Additionally, on a housekeeping and scheduling note, Sekulow states the Senate has requested an accommodation from the defense to limit opening to 10am-1pm on Saturday. So the defense segment will begin at 10am tomorrow then break after three hours and resume on Monday January 27th.
President Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani appears on Fox and Friends to discuss the scale and scope of corruption he has identified within the story of how Joe Biden and Hunter Biden laundered money from Ukraine for their own financial interests.
Giuliani highlights a January 2016 meeting in the White House between Eric Ciaramella (2020 CIA Whistle-blower) while on the National Security Council, and several members from the former Ukraine government, where the Obama administration and Ukraine officials entered into an agreement to frame dirt against Donald Trump and his campaign.
The key to understanding the corrupt endeavor behind the fraudulent “whistle-blower” complaint, doesn’t actually originate with ICIG Atkinson. The key person is the former head of the DOJ National Security Division, Mary McCord.
Prior to becoming IC Inspector General, Michael Atkinson was the Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General of the National Security Division, Mary McCord.
It is very safe to say Mary McCord and Michael Atkinson have a working relationship from their time together in 2016 and 2017 at the DOJ-NSD. Atkinson was Mary McCord’s senior legal counsel; essentially her lawyer.
McCord was the senior intelligence officer who accompanied Sally Yates to the White House in 2017 to confront then White House Counsel Don McGahn about the issues with Michael Flynn and the drummed up controversy over the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak phone call.
Additionally, Mary McCord, Sally Yates and Michael Atkinson worked together to promote the narrative around the incoming Trump administration “Logan Act” violations. This silly claim (undermining Obama policy during the transition) was the heavily promoted, albeit manufactured, reason why Yates and McCord were presumably concerned about Flynn’s contact with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. It was nonsense.
However, McCord didn’t just disappear in 2017 when she retired from the DOJ-NSD. She resurfaced as part of the Lawfare group assembly after the mid-term election in 2018.
THIS IS THE KEY.
Mary McCord joined the House effort to impeach President Trump; as noted in this article from Politico:
“I think people do see that this is a critical time in our history,” said Mary McCord, a former DOJ official who helped oversee the FBI’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and now is listed as a top outside counsel for the House in key legal fights tied to impeachment. “We see the breakdown of the whole rule of law. We see the breakdown in adherence to the Constitution and also constitutional values.”
“That’s why you’re seeing lawyers come out and being very willing to put in extraordinary amounts of time and effort to litigate these cases,” she added. (link)
Former DOJ-NSD Head Mary McCord is currently working for the House Committee (Adam Schiff) who created the impeachment scheme.
Now it becomes critical to overlay that detail with how the “whistle-blower” complain was organized. Mary McCord’s former NSD attorney, Michael Atkinson, is the intelligence community inspector general who brings forth the complaint.
The “whistle-blower” had prior contact with the staff of the committee. This is admitted. So essentially the “whistle-blower” almost certainly had contact with Mary McCord; and then ICIG Michael Atkinson modified the whistle-blower rules to facilitate the outcome.
There is the origination. That’s where the fraud starts.
The coordination between Mary McCord, the Whistle-blower and Michael Atkinson is why HPSCI Chairman Adam Schiff will not release the transcript from Atkinson’s testimony.
It now looks like the Lawfare network constructed the ‘whistle-blower’ complaint aka a Schiff Dossier, and handed it to allied CIA operative Eric Ciaramella to file as a formal IC complaint. This process is almost identical to the Fusion-GPS/Lawfare network handing the Steele Dossier to the FBI to use as the evidence for the 2016/2017 Russia conspiracy.
Atkinson’s conflict-of-self-interest, and/or possible blackmail upon him by deep state actors who most certainly know his compromise, likely influenced his approach to this whistleblower complaint. That would explain why the Dept. of Justice Office of Legal Counsel so strongly rebuked Atkinson’s interpretation of his responsibility with the complaint.
In the Justice Department’s OLC opinion, they point out that Atkinson’s internal justification for accepting the whistleblower complaint was poor legal judgement. [See Here] I would say Atkinson’s decision is directly related to his own risk exposure:
Michael Atkinson was moved from DOJ-NSD to become the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) in 2018. What we end up with is a brutally obvious, convoluted, network of corrupt officials; each carrying an independent reason to cover their institutional asses… each individual interest forms a collective fraudulent scheme inside the machinery of government.
Michael Atkinson and Mary McCord worked together in 2016/2017 on the stop-Trump surveillance operation (FISA application via DOJ-NSD). Then, following the 2018 mid-term election, in 2019 Mary McCord and Michael Atkinson team up again on another stop-Trump operation, each in a different position, and -working with others- coordinate the House impeachment plan via the ‘whistle-blower’ complaint.
While Devin Nunes is focused on the false statements of ICIG Michael Atkinson, the key is the contact between the ‘whistle-blower’ (Eric Ciaramella) and the House Intelligence Committee via Mary McCord.
There’s a very strong likelihood this entire impeachment construct was manufactured out of nothing to serve dual purposes: (1) Remove President Trump, and (2) protect the crew who were using Ukraine as a proxy political venue and source of financial gain.
National Security Council resistance member Alexander Vindman starts a rumor about the Trump-Zelenskyy phone call, which he shares with CIA operative Eric Ciaramella (a John Brennan resistance associate). Ciaramella then makes contact with resistance ally Mary McCord in her role within the House Intelligence Committee. Mrs. McCord then helps Ciaramella create a fraudulent whistle-blower complaint and submit via her former colleague, now Intelligence Community Inspector General, Michael Atkinson….
…And that’s how this entire Impeachment operation gets started.
There will be 24 hours of presentation by House Impeachment Managers (over 3 days); 24 hours of presentation by Defense team (over 3 days); 16 hours of Senate questioning; 4 hours of closing arguments, equally divided; and then a Senate debate/vote on further motions to include witnesses. If there are going to be witnesses, they will first be deposed prior to testimony. No witness testimony will be permitted without first being deposed.
The Senate Trial continues today on day four 1:00pm EST. Today is the third and final 8 hour day of arguments by House Impeachment Managers.
At approximately 12:15pm Eastern time this afternoon President Trump is scheduled to make history as the first sitting U.S. President to attend and give a speech at the annual March for Life event on the mall in Washington, DC.

[Transcript] – THE PRESIDENT: Well, thank you very much and thank you, Jeanne. It is my profound honor to be the first President in history to attend the March for Life. (Applause.) We’re here for a very simple reason: to defend the right of every child, born and unborn, to fulfill their God-given potential. (Applause.)
For 47 years, Americans of all backgrounds have traveled from across the country to stand for life. And today, as President of the United States, I am truly proud to stand with you. (Applause.)
I want to welcome tens of thousands — this is a tremendous turnout — tens of thousands of high school and college students who took long bus rides — (applause) — to be here in our nation’s capital. And to make you feel even better, there are tens of thousands of people outside that we passed on the way in. If anyone would like to give up their spot, we can work that out. (Laughter.) You have a tremendous group of people outside. Thousands and thousands wanted to get in. This is some great success. (Applause.) Young people are the heart of the March for Life, and it’s your generation that is making America the pro-family, pro-life nation. (Applause.)
The life movement is led by strong women, amazing faith leaders, and brave students who carry on the legacy of pioneers before us who fought to raise the conscience of our nation and uphold the rights of our citizens. You embrace mothers with care and compassion. You are powered by prayer, and motivated by pure, unselfish love.
You’re grateful — and we are so grateful — these are incredible people — to be joined by Secretary Alex Azar and Kellyanne Conway. (Applause.) Thank you.
And thanks also to Senators Mike Lee and James Lankford, who are here. James, Mike — thank you, fellas. And Representatives Steve Scalise — (applause); Chris Smith — (applause); Ralph Abraham — (applause); Warren Davidson — (applause); Bob Latta — (applause); John Joyce — (applause); Lloyd Smucker — (applause); Brian Fitzpatrick — (applause); and Brad Wenstrup. (Applause.) Thank you, all. (Applause.)
And I have to say — and I look at it — I see it exactly — we have many, many more politicians in the audience. But, if you don’t mind, I won’t introduce them all. (Laughter.)
All of us here today understand an eternal truth: Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God. (Applause.) Together, we must protect, cherish, and defend the dignity and sanctity of every human life. (Applause.)
When we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse the majesty of God’s creation. (Applause.) When we hold a newborn in our arms, we know the endless love that each child brings to a family. When we watch a child grow, we see the splendor that radiates from each human soul. One life changes the world. From my family — and I can tell you, I send love and I send great, great love.
And from the first day in office, I’ve taken a historic action to support America’s families and to protect the unborn. (Applause.) And during my first week in office, I reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, and we issued a landmark pro-life rule to govern the use of Title X taxpayer funding. (Applause.)
I notified Congress that I would veto any legislation that weakens pro-life policies or that encourages the destruction of human life. (Applause.)
At the United Nations, I made clear that global bureaucrats have no business attacking the sovereignty of nations that protect innocent life. (Applause.)
Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House. (Applause.) And as the Bible tells us, each person is “wonderfully made.” (Applause.)
We have taken decisive action to protect the religious liberty –- so important. Religious liberty has been under attack all over the world, and, frankly, very strongly attacked in our nation. You see it better than anyone. But we are stopping it, and we’re taking care of doctors, nurses, teachers, and groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor. (Applause.) We are preserving faith-based adoption. (Applause.)
And to uphold our founding documents, we have confirmed 187 federal judges — (applause) — who apply the Constitution as written, including two phenomenal Supreme Court Justices: Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. (Applause.)
We are protecting pro-life students’ right to free speech on college campuses. (Applause.) And if universities want federal taxpayer dollars, then they must uphold your First Amendment right to speak your mind. And if they don’t, they pay a very big financial penalty, which they will not be willing to pay. (Applause.)
Sadly, the far-left is actively working to erase our God-given rights, shut down faith-based charities, ban religious believers from the public square, and silence Americans who believe in the sanctity of life. They are coming after me because I am fighting for you and we are fighting for those who have no voice. And we will win because we know how to win. (Applause.) We all know how to win. We all know how to win. You’ve been winning for a long time. You’ve been winning for a long time. (Applause.)
AUDIENCE: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!
THE PRESIDENT: Together, we are the voice for the voiceless. When it comes to abortion, Democrats is a — and you know this, you’ve seen what’s happened — Democrats have embraced the most radical and extreme positions taken and seen in this country for years, and decades — and you can even say “for centuries.”
AUDIENCE: Booo —
THE PRESIDENT: Nearly every top Democrat in Congress now supports taxpayer-funded abortion, all the way up until the moment of birth.
AUDIENCE: Booo —
THE PRESIDENT: Last year, lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb right up until delivery.
AUDIENCE: Booo —
THE PRESIDENT: Then, we had the case of the Democrat governor in the state of Virginia — the Commonwealth of Virginia.
AUDIENCE: Booo —
THE PRESIDENT: And we love the Commonwealth of Virginia, but what is going on in Virginia? What is going on? The Governor stated that he would execute a baby after birth. You remember that.
Senate Democrats even blocked legislation that would give medical care to babies who survive attempted abortions. That’s why I’ve called on Congress — two of our great senators here, so many of our congressmen here — and called upon them to defend the dignity of life and to pass legislation prohibiting late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in their mother’s womb. (Applause.)
This year, the March for Life is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which forever enshrined women’s rights to vote in the United States — (applause) — and given by the United States Constitution. Such a big event. (Applause.)
Today, millions of extraordinary women across America are using the power of their votes to fight for the right, and all of their rights, as given in the Declaration of Independence –- it’s the right to life. To all the women here today: Your devotion and your leadership uplifts our entire nation, and we thank you for that.
The tens of thousands of Americans gathered today not only stand for life — it’s really that they stand for it so proudly together, and I want to thank everybody for that.
You stand for life each and every day. You provide housing, education, jobs, and medical care to the women that you serve. You find loving families for children in need of a forever home. You host baby showers for expecting moms. You make –- you just make it your life’s mission to help spread God’s grace.
And to all of the moms here today: We celebrate you, and we declare that mothers are heroes. (Applause.) That’s true. Your strength, devotion, and drive is what powers our nation. And, because of you, our country has been blessed with amazing souls who have changed the course of human history.
We cannot know what our citizens yet unborn will achieve, the dreams they will imagine, the masterpieces they will create, the discoveries they will make. But we know this: Every life brings love into this world. Every child brings joy to a family. Every person is worth protecting. (Applause.) And above all, we know that every human soul is divine, and every human life –- born and unborn –- is made in the holy image of Almighty God. (Applause.)
Together, we will defend this truth all across our magnificent land. We will set free the dreams of our people. And with determined hope, we look forward to all of the blessings that will come from the beauty, talent, purpose, nobility, and grace of every American child.
I want to thank you. This is a very special moment. It’s so great to represent you. I love you all and –- (applause) — and I say with true passion: Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America. Thank you all. Thank you. (Applause.)
Earlier today President Trump hosted a gathering of mayors from across the nation along with several cabinet members to highlight several revitalization initiatives.

[Transcript] – THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Please, sit down. Please. (Applause.) It is a great place, isn’t it? It’s the White House. It’s a great place.
And it’s my pleasure to welcome our nation’s mayors to the White House. We are here today to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the federal and local governments so that we can deliver great jobs, excellent schools, affordable healthcare, and safe communities for all of our people.
We are honored to be joined by Secretary Alex Azar — Alex, thank you very much. Secretary Ben Carson, who’s done a wonderful job and deals with the mayors a lot. Right, Ben? Really great. Administrator Jovita Carranza — thank you very much. Thank you, Jovita.
And Acting Secretary Chad Wolf — and your numbers are great. I just looked at your numbers. They’re great, (inaudible). (Laughter.) We’re — thank you very much, Chad. It’s a lot of progress on the border. He — among many other things, including Coast Guard, he controls the border, and he’s doing a good job.
I also want to thank Mayor Bryan Barnett and — for helping to organize today’s meeting. It’s been a tremendous success that so many people accepted; few people didn’t accept, actually. And I want to thank you all very much.
All across America, cities are being lifted up by our booming economy. America is now the hottest economy anywhere in the world.
We’ve created over 7 million jobs since the election — a number that would be unthought of. If I ever said that during the campaign — you know the feeling — they would have gone after me very strongly, huh? Huh? (Laughter and applause.)
The unemployment rate is the lowest in more than half a century. African American, Hispanic American, Asian American unemployment have reached the lowest levels ever recorded in the history of our country. African American, Hispanic American poverty rates are at record lows. Great. (Applause.) That’s great. More than 2 million millennials have gotten jobs, and their wages have grown by nearly 5 percent every year — which is another record.
We doubled the child tax credit, benefitting 40 million American families. And we’ve lifted 650,000 single mothers and 1.4 million children out of poverty. (Applause.) True. Ten million people have been lifted off of welfare in less than three years.
Earnings for the bottom 10 percent are rising faster than earnings for the top 10 percent. You don’t hear that too often, but it’s been incredible, actually.
For the first time in nearly 30 years, every single metro area in the United States has seen incomes rise. Median household income is at the highest level ever recorded. And, speaking of that, in terms of dollars: Under President Bush, it was a $450 increase over eight years; under President Obama, it was a $975 increase over eight years; and under your favorite President, President Trump — (laughter) — it was almost a $10,000 increase over less than three years. So we did it, as of less than three. (Applause.) We’ve been here now just three, as of a few days ago. Time flies. But $10,000. So that’s — in a three-year period. So that’s something really special. And they’ve never seen growth like that.
We’re delivering for Americans and we’re doing it for every race and color, religion and creed, creating not only the most prosperous, but also the most inclusive economy anywhere in the world. I believe that. It’s the most inclusive economy anywhere in the world. That’s a great thing.
To create jobs and opportunity, we designated nearly 9,000 Opportunity Zones in distressed communities where capital gains on long-term investments are now taxed at zero. Opportunity Zones have been incredible. Tim Scott, the senator — great senator — from South Carolina, came to me two years ago, and he had this idea. And nobody knew it was going to work out the way it has, but billions and billions of dollars are pouring into the communities. Part of it also is the fact that we’re doing so well, as an economy, that people have the money to put in. But it’s — there’s probably never been anything like this.
Tremendous wealth is now pouring into areas that, for 100 years, saw nothing — no dollars, nothing. The 35 million Americans who live in these areas have already seen their home values rise by $25 billion over the country.
My administration also understands that, for our cities to thrive, our citizens must be safe and they must be secure. And that’s why we are working with state and local governments through the revitalized Project Safe Neighborhoods — you know that program: Project Safe Neighborhoods — to adopt the most proven and effective crime-fighting techniques.
We’re also enacting landmark criminal justice reform to improve reentry programs and reduce all of the things that we try and strive so hard to take care of. If you look at our prisons now, we have people coming out, and they’re able to get jobs more than at any time ever in the history of our country. That’s because the economy is so good, and we’ve given incentives, and it’s been an incredible success. Employers are really, really happy.
And people aren’t going back to jail at anywhere near the clip. It’s been something that’s been incredible — criminal justice reform. I was asked by a group of people that were on the very liberal side of things, and we got a group of people that were on the very conservative side of things, and we got it done. Nobody was able to get it done. We got it done. Criminal justice reform. And that’s something we’re very proud of. It’s really working fantastically well, as a lot of you — as a lot of you know. (Applause.)
Before my election, violent crime was on the rise, and America saw the steepest two-year consecutive increase in murders in nearly half a century. It was in bad, bad condition. In just a short time, we’ve reduced the number of murders in America’s major cities by more than 10 percent. And we’re getting tremendous numbers coming out now, much better than even that.
The nationwide violent crime rate has declined for two straight years. And, working with many leaders in this room, we have boldly tackled the opioid crisis. We’ve really made tremendous progress. In some cases, down 21 percent. Now, 21 percent is not much, when you think of the problem, but we have a lot of things happening.
And fentanyl — I spoke with President Xi of China, and they’re coming down very hard on fentanyl. We made our deal with China, as part of it — just in terms of relationship. I said, “Really, you have to do something.” And they’ve put in very strong penalties, and their penalties are really strong. You want to talk about penalties? Those are strict. (Laughter.) And their court cases go slightly quicker than ours. (Laughter.) Like — like one day. One day. They call them “quick trials.” They go quick. (Laughter.) They go so quick, you don’t know what happened. (Laughter.) Ours take 15 years; theirs takes one day. But he was — he’s been terrific on that. And we’re seeing a tremendous — a tremendous difference in the fentanyl.
Drug overdose deaths declined for the first time in nearly 30 years. The Department of Homeland Security is also working directly with many of the mayors in the cities, really, represented so brilliantly in this room, to remove dangerous criminals from your communities.
We have — ICE is taking out MS-13 gang members by the thousands — by the thousands. And we’re bringing them back to where they came from. And we’ve had great cooperation from those countries — Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico. Mexico has been terrific. Mexico has given us 27,000 soldiers at our southern border. And we’re working really well with Mexico — best we’ve ever worked with Mexico.
When local police arrest a criminal, they run them through a federal database. If the criminal is found to be here illegally, ICE issues a detainer request. Honoring these detainers is vital to public safety, and we work with the mayors on that.
And we have some sanctuary cities represented also in the room. But it’s been — it’s been a very tough thing, working with the sanctuary cities. But sanctuary city policies that order police to ignore these federal detainers and release criminal aliens to the public — that’s really a tremendous risk. The public is — you see the statistics; you see the numbers. And it’s just —
One recent example: New York City arrested a criminal alien on assault charges. But, under city policy, they defied ICE’s detainer request and released the violent criminal. After being freed by the city, the same criminal alien allegedly raped, brutalized, and murdered a 92-year-old woman on the streets of New York. This horrible crime — and there’s so many others — was 100 percent preventable. They wanted to take this person — I’m being nice — take this person and bring them out and couldn’t get them.
I urge all of you here today to cooperate fully with the federal enforcement. We’re all on the same team. I think that’s the biggest point is we’re all on the same team. We want to have safety. And you — some have sanctuary cities, but even if you have sanctuary cities, we want to be able to work together because tremendous differences in crime numbers can happen. And it’s been happening. And with some of the mayors in the room — and I’m friends with a lot of you; I know a lot of you — we’ve had incredible success.
To further ensure that every child can access the American Dream, we’ve made education a top priority. That’s why we strongly support charter schools and the right of parents to send their kids to the school of their choice. We want choice.
At the same time — and again, you’re going to have to do what’s good for your community, and we work with you. But we found that choice is something that’s so popular — the people love it. The — so many different groups of people from different areas, they love choice. We want to ensure that the students and workers alike are able to take advantage of every opportunity in our soaring economy — and soaring it is. In the history of our country, we now have the best economy.
Through our Pledge to the American Workers, more than 400 companies have committed to providing nearly 15 million new job and training opportunities. All Americans, no matter their age or background, should have access to cutting-edge programs that prepare them for the exciting jobs of tomorrow.
We have many, many companies moving into the United States. They want to be where the action is. They’re coming back — car companies; many, many forms of companies. And we’re making it a priority to have those companies train people. And they’re doing that now. We’re up to 15 million people. It’s really been incredible. My daughter Ivanka has worked very hard on that program. She wanted to do 500,000, two years ago, and we’re going to be hitting, very shortly, 15 million. So, she did a great job. (Applause.) Great job.
But families are at the center of our national agenda. We’ve made charitable — and child- — really, looking at it — looking it, we’ve made such progress with childcare, and more affordable and increased childcare funding for low-income parents. And we enacted paid family leave for government employees — a model for the entire community. Millions of families are benefitting from our ambitious campaign to lower the cost of prescription drugs — which is something you’re all working on — and to hold big pharma accountable.
One of things we’re doing with Ron DeSantis in Florida is we’re going to — we’re very close to getting it done, I believe. Right, Mr. Secretary? Because of, really, some terrible laws that, if we worked together, if we were able to get the Democrats to go along, we could lower prescription prices tremendously. But what we’re doing is we’re going to allow our mayors, our governors to go out and make deals to buy it from Canada and, it could be, some other countries where the prices are much lower. In fact, I think you’ll probably save 50 percent — “five-oh.” That’ll be a number that nobody has ever even heard of. Can you imagine that? (Applause.)
So, you’ll end up saving — you’ll end up saving 50 percent by buying it. Same pills, same box, same manufacturer in the manufacturing plant, and you save 50 percent, which tells you that we can do a lot of great things here. Why should that happen?
But we’re going to be buying a lot of things from Canada. Canada is very happy and they have much lower drug prices. Can you imagine if you went back and your programs — your prescription drugs were 50 percent lower? And we’re going to be able to do that. So we have that in a number of states. And Ron is one of the leaders of it.
As city leaders, you also know firsthand the vital importance of infrastructure and the painful delays imposed by meddlesome bureaucracy. Earlier this month, we issued a proposed new rule to reduce the permitting time by over 50 percent for building new roads, highways, bridges, and all of the different things that you have to build — infrastructure — in your communities.
We have highways that were taking 21 years to get approved. And by the time they got there, they cost 20 times more. They cost millions — hundreds of millions of dollars. And we had one in a certain state — it took 17 years and it cost, I think, 41 times more expensive than they originally had approved. And it was — instead of a straight line, it was like this. In other words, not even a small drink if you were going to be a driver on that road because it was — (laughter) — what a mess. And 21 years it took, and it cost many, many times. And the road was a lot longer than it should have been, too, because of the twists and turns, which creates danger.
And we have that down to two years now. And we think we’ll have it down to one year. And you may get rejected, but it’s going to go quickly. It’s going to go quickly. (Applause.)
And you know, we have — we have things out there for 20 years — highways –- that should not be complicated and they can’t get them approved. And in many cases, they go 20 years and then they get rejected. How would you like to work on that? You work half of your adult life –- half of your working life on one road or highway — and at the end of it, they raise it and you lose three to two, and that’s the end of the project. So for 20 years, you wasted half of your life.
My administration stands ready to work with each one of you to make our cities safer and stronger and more vibrant than ever before. As part of this commitment, last year my administration launched an initiative to cut federal, state, and local regulations to reduce the cost of housing. We also hosted a White House summit last month on mental health — a really critical issue confronting many cities and states.
Finally, in the face of attacks on synagogues, mosques, and churches in our community — something that is just so horrible — we must work together to reject the monstrous evils of anti-Semitism and anti-religious bigotry. (Applause.)
And in a few moments, it’s –- thank you for that. That’s — that’s incredible enthusiasm for that. Incredible, because it’s just –- it’s crazy; what’s going on is crazy.
In a few moments, I will sign legislation authorizing $375 million for federal grants to help houses of worship and other faith-based and non-profit organizations defend against violence. (Applause.)
We are committed to building a nation where every community is secure, every family is safe, and every child can grow up in dignity and in peace.
I want to again thank all of these mayors –- they’re such great mayors, at least some of you. I know a couple — (laughter). But that’s okay. You’re here. Maybe –- maybe I’m wrong about that, right? (Laughter.) But I do, I know so many that have done such a great job in this room. Friends of mine. They love their job, they love what they’re doing, and there’s nobody in the world that can do it better. So I really appreciate you being here.
Working together, we’re making our cities into thriving and dynamic centers of culture and creativity, innovation, and commerce. And we’re building a future where all of our citizens can achieve their own beautiful American Dream. And I just tell you, our country has never done better than it’s doing right now. We’re the envy of the world. Our economy is the strongest. We are doing deals like the great China deal. We’ll be taking in $250 billion. That’s tremendous. They’ll be buying $250 [billion] — $50 billion from the farmers. And it could even go more. I mean, it could go higher. I don’t know that they can even produce that much.
The fact is: We love our farmers, but they were doing — the maximum they ever did was $16 billion in one year to China. And they had a deal that was done. It was at $20 [billion]. And I said, “Make it $50 [billion].” And everyone said, “Well, you can’t.” I said, “Make it $50 [billion].” They said, “You can’t make that much.” I said, “That’s okay, right. We’ll buy larger tractors.” (Laughter.) Guess you have to buy a little more land too, but they’ll do it. You know, the farmers never let you down. The farmers are going to do it. It’s to their benefit.
But — so we’re going really right in the other direction. We are going to have numbers. We’ve made a deal with Japan — $40 billion. A lot of that goes to farmers and manufacturers. And we’ve created 700,000 manufacturing jobs, which we were told by past administrations — but one, in particular — that you would never have manufacturing jobs. I would say, you have to be — I mean, how can you not have manufacturing jobs?
So we’re at 700,000 manufacturing jobs. I’d like to — (applause). Yeah. And these are great jobs, too. These are great jobs, skilled jobs, high-paying jobs. I’d like to now invite the mayors, community leaders, and members of my administration to join me on stage as I sign this incredible piece of legislation. It took a long time to get it here, but this is something that’s very, very special and very, very great for you, as mayors.
And again, keep up the good work. You’ve done an incredible job. Thank you. (Applause.)
A good reminder of what we can expect when President Trump’s defense team has their first opportunity in five months to defend him. During a broadcast segment on ABC news reporters in the Capitol were interviewing President Trump defense attorney Jay Sekulow.
Back in the ABC studio, Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos did not want to see ABC broadcasting statements from the defense and he is caught on camera using hand signals to tell the producers to cut-off the broadcast. Stephanopoulos realized he was caught:

Shortly after 3 pm Eastern this afternoon, @AoSHQ noted Stephanopoulos was shown on camera making the slit-the-throat “kill” gesture to cut away from Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow taking press questions. These guys are NOT going to like hearing the Trump side of this trial.
Representative Jim Jordan appears on Fox News to discuss the latest day of impeachment trial proclamations, noting: “what Chairman Schiff calls abuse of power is what the founders called separation of power”. So true.
Representative Elise Stefanik is a member of President Trump’s defense team. In this interview the issue of the deficient articles is raised surrounding witnesses.
House witnesses who gave testimony when the articles were framed could be considered appropriate, if needed, when debating those articles in the Senate. However, witnesses not called by the House; and therefore not used in the assembly of the articles being debated in the Senate; are not valid for consideration.
.
It is not the responsibility of the Senate, nor is it constitutionally valid, for the Senate to attempt to rehabilitate improperly constructed articles simply because the House refused to assemble with due diligence. Any evidence, including witnesses, that falls outside the originating assembly of the two House articles should be considered null and void.
Lee Zeldin, Mike Johnson, Mark Meadows and Elise Stefanik appear for a quick presser during the impeachment hearings.
Zeldin notes that Adam Schiff has claimed Ukraine interference in the 2016 U.S. election is “conspiracy theory“; then Zeldin cites specific examples of Ukraine activity the media are well aware of. After calling out the media examples, Mr. Zeldin challenges them to debunk him….. the media are silent. WATCH:
