President Trump Will Release Name of Supreme Court Nominee Monday, July 9th…
There has been a great deal of speculation about who President Trump will nominate to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. Earlier today President Trump revealed he will announce the nominee on Monday July 9th:
Democrats and far-left activists have vowed to do everything possible to stop any nominee from being confirmed. All political opposition is beyond bananas on this issue.
President Trump has stated his intention to make the nominee from a previously compiled list, with a few additions. The potential nominees are:
- Amy Coney Barrett of Indiana, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit
- Keith Blackwell of Georgia, Supreme Court of Georgia
- Charles Canady of Florida, Supreme Court of Florida
- Steven Colloton of Iowa, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit
- Allison Eid of Colorado, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit
- Britt Grant of Georgia, Supreme Court of Georgia
- Raymond Gruender of Missouri, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit
- Thomas Hardiman of Pennsylvania, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit

- Federico Moreno of Florida, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida
- Kevin Newsom of Alabama, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit
- William Pryor of Alabama, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit
- Margaret Ryan of Virginia, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces
- David Stras of Minnesota, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit

My only hunch is that the nominee will be female.
Christian Persecution Celebrated on Roman Coins
Armstrong Economics Blog/Ancient History
Re-Posted Jul 1, 2018 by Martin Armstrong
QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong; The Romans seem to have issued coins to celebrate everything. Did they ever issue coins celebrating the Christian persecutions?
ZR
ANSWER: Oh yes. The coin above celebrates precisely that — the Christian persecutions. There was a major active campaign of persecuting the Christians during the 3rd century as the barbarians were storming the gates. The Christians were blamed because the Pagans believed that their gods were angry because the Christians refused to worship them and therefore they were punishing everyone. In the United States, Rev Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson came out and said that God was angry and punishing New York by allowing the terrorists to succeed on 9/11. They said God allowed the attack because of “abortion, homosexuality, secular schools and courts, and the American civil liberties union.” (see Guardian). This is the standard reaction when fortune shifts. Many will blame some group and claim that God is punishing the entire community because of them. This human response was the same in the Hindus as it was among the ancient Romans and Greeks.
Maximinus II pursued the popular view and unleashed the Christian persecutions which reached its height during 310-313 AD in the eastern cities of Nicomedia, Antioch, and Alexandria. The Christians were subject to confiscation of land and property and expelled from the cities. Their churches were closed and ransacked. These three major mint cities all struck a series of small bronze coins honoring the old Greco-Roman gods including Jupiter, Apollo, Tyche, and Serapis. The persecutions subsided in 313 AD as a result of the Edict of Milan, jointly issued by Constantine and Licinius who were the senior emperors at that time in the Tetrarchy. The edict proclaimed a policy of religious freedom and returned confiscated property to the Christians.
It is interesting that whatever group is being persecuted, it always magically turns into confiscating all their assets. Edward I (1272-1307) of England borrowed from the Jews, when he could not pay them back, he suddenly discovered they were Jews, expelled them from England, and confiscated their assets. Constantine I the Great endorsed Christianity as the state religion, and then confiscated all wealth in the Pagan temples. Henry VIII (1509-1547) broke away from the Catholic Church and created his Church of England, and he too confiscated all the assets of the Catholic Church in England. Napoleon confiscated the assets of the Catholic Church and crowned himself, rejecting the pope. The French even issued currency backed by the confiscation of assets belonging to the church. The Americans issued paper currency also backed by assets confiscated from those who supported the king. The list is endless. The USA invaded Iraq because it was profitable. We did not invade North Korea who openly had weapons of mass destruction. They had no oil or fertile land so it was not profitable. It is historically the same – Just show me the money!
Special Counsel Mueller asks for Another Delay in Flynn Sentencing – Judge Sullivan Appears Annoyed…
Special Counsel Robert Mueller has asked for yet another delay in the sentencing of former National Security Advisor General Mike Flynn.
The Friday filing indicates the Special Counsel requests the court to begin preparation of a pre-sentencing report. Lawyers for both sides proposed a status update of Aug. 24th.
However, later, in a minute-order, Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered the parties to explain by noon Monday July 2nd, the reason why the Court should depart from the normal practice of getting all the sentencing issues/dates done at the same time. (h/t Techno Fog)
California Democrat Arrested For Death Threats Toward FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and His Family…
Yikes, looks like someone following through on Congresswoman Maxine Waters approach toward political violence was just arrested. From the Eastern District of VA:
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A California man was arrested today in Los Angeles on charges of threatening to kill the family of Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, for Pai’s role in repealing regulations relating to net neutrality.
According to court documents, on or about Dec. 19 and 20, 2017, Markara Man, 33, of Norwalk, allegedly sent three emails to Chairman Pai’s email accounts. The first email accused Chairman Pai of being responsible for a child who allegedly had committed suicide because of the repeal of net neutrality regulations. The second email listed three locations in or around Arlington, and threatened to kill the Chairman’s family members.
The third email had no message in its body, but included an image depicting Chairman Pai and, in the foreground and slightly out of focus, a framed photograph of Chairman Pai and his family. The FBI traced the emails to Man’s residence in Norwalk, California, and when initially confronted in May 2018, Man admitted to the FBI that he sent the email threatening Chairman Pai’s family because he was “angry” about the repeal of the net neutrality regulations and wanted to “scare” Chairman Pai.
Man is charged with a threatening to murder a member of the immediate family of a U.S. official with the intent to intimidate or interfere with such official while engaged in the performance of official duties, or with the intent to retaliate against such official on account of the performance of official duties.
If convicted, Man faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. (read more w/ PACER link)

D’oh Canada – Justin and Chrystia Announce Plans To Retaliate Against U.S. Steel/Aluminum Tariffs – Trudeau Government Will Expand Unemployment Payments, and Subsidize Canadian Industry…
Today Canada released an updated list of retaliatory tariffs designed as countermeasures to the U.S. Steel and Aluminum tariffs [SEE HERE] which will begin Sunday, July 1st.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains, and Employment and Labour Minister Patty Hajdu, announced they would initiate an emergency program to use Canadian taxes compensate workers, expand unemployment benefits, and subsidize impacted industry. Yes, in a transparent display of political ideology (throwing capitalism directly out the window), Canada doubles-down on centralized government subsidies to offset market impacts. Brilliant ‘eh!
Chrystia Freeland made the announcement on the floor of a Hamilton steel factory Friday. In a rare backdrop, Ms. Freeland actually entered a factory with machines and things, to deliver the carefully choreographed political message (video below – watch the last minute to understand).
Team U.S.A. have applied tariffs to Canadian softwood lumber, Steel and Aluminum as Canada refuses to negotiate new terms for NAFTA where North American products are prioritized. Canada demands the ability to continue importing Asian, mostly Chinese, products for their assembly-based market.
With the latest counter-move by Justin and Chrystia from Canada, it is increasingly likely President Trump will levy a 20% tariff on imported Canadian automobiles. Last month (May) the Canadian economy dropped over 31,000 Full-Time jobs.
Here’s the full video of the announcement. The Q&A Session starts at 16:40 and is really the only part that matters:
.
Canada has put themselves into a tough spot. The current Canadian government cannot support any NAFTA agreement that requires the actual manufacturing of goods in North America. Both Canada and Mexico have structured their economies to import goods from Asia, mostly China, and use their access into the U.S. market to trans-ship their final goods.
Chinese central government, as well as Asian and EU corporations, pay Canada and Mexico (through trade agreements) for U.S. market access. Essentially Mexico and Canada are trade brokers or pass-throughs. Neither Canada nor Mexico have the actual raw material, infrastructure or processes in place to manufacture goods in North America; they both generally only assemble parts made overseas into finished products.
Because of this structural flaw, the Canadian government is doubling down on their intent to keep the status quo in place. However, this approach also makes it a futile exercise to continue talking about renegotiating NAFTA.
Mexican elections are being held July 1st (Sunday), it is yet to be determined if Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AM LO), Mexico’s virtually guaranteed-to-win next president, will support a Mexican withdrawal from NAFTA.

President Trump Speech Celebrating Six Month Anniversary of Tax Cuts and Jobs Act…
Earlier today President Trump delivered remarks celebrating the six month anniversary of the U.S. Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Today is also the last business day of the second quarter.
.
Long time CTH readers might note in 2015 when we first saw candidate Trump’s economic policy initiatives, we began outlining the sequential economic possibilities if President Trump won. So far, all is going according to plan – STUNNINGLY According To Plan. Seriously, go back and look –FEBRUARY 2016– two-and-a-half years ago.
The possibilities were obvious. As a result we predicted repeatedly that Q2 of 2018 would be the beginning of the largest period of U.S. GDP and wage growth in the past 30 years. Q2 2018 ends tomorrow and the results of Q2 will be announced in the next few weeks. Everything is happening in a logical sequence as a result of Trump’s MAGAnomic plans.
We are now in the third MAGAnomic phase where all international trade agreements are being structured around ‘reciprocity’. Eventually, if President Trump can continue the pressure, all global trade barriers and tariffs will be removed.
This is history.
We are living in most consequential economic period in modern history.
