Op Ed, DC Foreign Policy Crowd Demands More Weapons and Money for Ukraine, U.S. Southern Border Not So Much

Amid a lengthy op-ed published in The Hill, you will find this paragraph:

[…] “Although the Biden administration has successfully rallied U.S. allies and provided substantial military assistance, including this month, to Ukraine’s valiant armed forces, it has failed to produce a satisfactory strategic narrative which enables governments to maintain public support for the NATO engagement over the long term.” (link)

Doesn’t that paragraph basically say Biden hasn’t been doing enough to produce good propaganda to keep the public interested?

The signatories of the op-ed are a veritable who’s who of U.S. foreign policy intervention, including the same crew involved in the first Trump impeachment effort.

Apparently, they are losing World War Reddit.

North Korea Asks to Join the War

Armstrong Economics Blog/War Re-Posted Aug 10, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

The proxy war with Russia has strengthened the West’s enemies. North Korea is offering to send 100,000 soldiers – all volunteers – to fight alongside Russia. Despite being a small nation, North Korea boasts the fourth largest military in the world, with over 1.3 million active troops and 600,000 reservists.

North Korea is attempting to align closely with Russia and has even offered to help repair the Donbas region after the war. A spokesperson for the hermit kingdom announced full support for Russia in April. “We are sending our full support and showing solidarity to the justified struggle of the Russian people to protect the autonomy and security of the country and to defend national interests,” they stated.

In May, Russia blocked attempts by the UN and US to pass further sanctions on North Korea. In July, North Korea stated that they officially recognized the People’s Republic of Donetsk and the People’s Republic of Luhansk as Russian territories. Russia has responded favorably to North Korea’s vocal support.

“Highly qualified, hardworking, and ready to work in the most difficult conditions, [North] Korean builders will be an asset in the serious task of restoring social, infrastructure and industrial facilities [in the Donbas] destroyed by the retreating Ukrainian forces,” Russia’s ambassador to North Korea, Alexander Matsegora, said.

North Korea is a nuclear power with a military state. The tyrannical government indoctrinates children from a young age to hate the West. Kim Jong-Un can send cheap laborers to Russia at a moment’s notice, and he is certainly desperate for allies. This may entice China to step up its efforts as they have a monopoly on trade with their neighboring country and are increasingly growing frustrated with America after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. As the cycle of war turns up, new players are joining the fight.

Zelensky: From War-Torn Leader to High Fashion Model

Armstrong Economics Blog/Corruption Re-Posted Jul 29, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

The latest models for the cover of Vogue are none other than Mr. and Mrs. Zelensky. The editors at Vogue actually permitted the president to wear his favorite green military-issued t-shirt that he parades around in daily like some cartoon character.

“The Art of War” never mentioned posing for a high-end fashion magazine as a strategy. Times have changed. This is a strategic marketing move since he is begging Western politicians for billions of dollars. Volodymyr and Olena appear as young and trendy political celebrities who we should root for by turning a blind eye when our elected officials send them our money. There is no need to hold a vote or to question where the money is spent! They are the good guys!

It seems only his previous supporters are buying this new pitch as the internet is fuming with calls of the Zelenskys being tone deaf, at best. Multi-millionaire Zelensky appears to be the everyday man when in reality he is extremely corrupt and wants the entire world to suffer alongside him. The average taxpayer funding his war efforts cannot afford a single item from Vogue, but the West is enamored with celebrity culture. Let us not forget that he appeared via video at the Grammys this year, surrounded by the rich and famous stars. The next generation of voters, who will be paying Zelensky’s debt, are influenced by these celebrities and magazines. Zelensky is using Western celebrity-obsessed culture to spin himself as the good guy, completely ignoring his unwillingness to hold peace talks or admit that he provoked this war.

EU Commission Asks all Member Nations to Reduce Natural Gas Use by 15 Percent to Help Germany and Energy Dependent States

Posted originally on the conservative tree house on July 21, 2022 | Sundance

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, a woman of notoriously bureaucratic disposition, has proposed that all member nations to reduce their use of natural gas by 15% in order to subsidize and protect the larger member nations -specifically Germany- who are more dependent on Russian energy.

Spain, Portugal and Greece are balking at the idea of voluntary cuts in order to spread the energy resources to the larger economies.

Things amid the EU could get spicy again, with the league of nations in Brussels taking control of economic wealth distribution.

BRUSSELS, July 20 (Reuters) – The European Union set out emergency plans on Wednesday for countries to cut their gas use by 15% until March, warning them that without deep cuts now they could struggle for fuel during winter if Russia cuts off supply.

Europe is racing to fill its gas storage ahead of winter and build a buffer in case Moscow further restricts supplies in retaliation for European support for Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

[…] The regulation needs approval from a reinforced majority of EU countries. Country diplomats are set to discuss it on Friday, with the aim of approving it at an emergency meeting of their energy ministers on July 26.

“Russia is blackmailing us. Russia is using energy as a weapon. And therefore, in any event, whether it’s a partial, major cut-off of Russian gas or a total cut-off of Russian gas, Europe needs to be ready,” EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. (read more)

Obviously not everyone is happy….

BARCELONA, Spain — The European Union’s plan to reduce the bloc’s natural gas use by 15% to prepare for a potential cutoff by Russia this winter received sharp skepticism Thursday from the governments of Spain and Portugal, which are usually big supporters of the bloc.

The governments in Madrid and Lisbon said they would not support the initiative announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday. The proposal would start with voluntary reductions, but the EU’s head office also wants the power to make 15% savings mandatory in the event of an EU-wide energy emergency.

Spain and Portugal said making reductions obligatory was a non-starter. They noted that there are scant energy connections linking them to the rest of Europe and that they use very little Russian gas compared to fellow EU members such as Germany and Italy.

“We will defend European values, but we won’t accept a sacrifice regarding an issue that we have not even been allowed to give our opinion on,” Spanish Ecological Transition Minister Teresa Ribera said. (read more)

Subtle as a Brick Through a Window, U.S. Media Starts Reshaping Corrupt Ukraine Narrative

Posted originally on the conservative tree house on July 21, 2022 | Sundance

From the CTH perspective, if we accept the scale of the approaching U.S. economic pain that is clearly visible on the horizon, this narrative shift from the Associated Press and NPR, about a balancing act for U.S. policy and a corrupt Ukraine government, seems very predictable.

The average U.S. worker, and the middle class in general, is in trouble.  The visible reference of bailing out the people of Ukraine to the tune of $60+ billion is legislative salt in an open economic wound caused by Biden policy.  A shift is needed.

Pivoting away from Ukraine to focus on financial subsidies for Americans requires using a particular arm-distancing toward Zelenskyy from the politicians.   Look, corruption.

Here we go:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s dismissal of senior officials is casting an inconvenient light on an issue that the Biden administration has largely ignored since the outbreak of war with Russia: Ukraine’s history of rampant corruption and shaky governance.

As it presses ahead with providing tens of billions of dollars in military, economic and direct financial support aid to Ukraine and encourages its allies to do the same, the Biden administration is now once again grappling with longstanding worries about Ukraine’s suitability as a recipient of massive infusions of American aid.

Those issues, which date back decades and were not an insignificant part of former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment, had been largely pushed to the back burner in the immediate run-up to Russia’s invasion and during the first months of the conflict as the U.S. and its partners rallied to Ukraine’s defense.

But Zelenskyy’s weekend firings of his top prosecutor, intelligence chief and other senior officials have resurfaced those concerns and may have inadvertently given fresh attention to allegations of high-level corruption in Kyiv made by one outspoken U.S. lawmaker.

It’s a delicate issue for the Biden administration. With billions in aid flowing to Ukraine, the White House continues to make the case for supporting Zelenskyy’s government to an American public increasingly focused on domestic issues like high gas prices and inflation. High-profile supporters of Ukraine in both parties also want to avoid a backlash that could make it more difficult to pass future aid packages. (read more)

♦ Tomorrow’s News Today.  Sometime in the not-too-distant future, congress is going to need to spend several trillion to bailout business and individuals who will suffer under the biggest U.S. economic collapse since the 2007 housing crisis.

Within those several trillions of emergency legislative appropriations, supported by both wings of the UniParty as an expression of the economic and humanitarian urgency, the Biden administration will hide the $500 billion in Green New Deal spending.  The crisis will not be wasted.

The 2022 democrats are setting up the 2023 republicans to be the people in charge of congress when this economic collapse and subsequent bailout is needed.   Lucy with the football Democrats, will demand more money be spent ‘for the people‘, essentially to subsidize the energy driven economic crisis they have fueled for the past two years.

WWIII is not Worth Supporting Ukraine in a Land Grab

Armstrong Economics Blog/War Re-Posted Jul 16, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

The West is determined to invade Russia and they believe that they can destroy it despite the fact that they are no longer a communist nation or a threat. That does not seem to matter for they want war because Russia and China will not surrender their sovereignty to the United Nations under this Great Reset all for Climate Change & the WEF.

Indeed, many practical Western military strategists are starting to agree that Henry Kissinger’s advice must be taken and that peace negotiations should begin – NOW. There is a growing number of military strategists that realize that Russia and Belarus along with China and North Korea will all join to defeat the West and NATO which they see as the greatest threat now to humanity.

The West needs war because it can no longer maintain this Marxist socialism system borrowing endlessly with no intention to repay anything  back. This is coming to an end. Our computer has warned 40 years ago that the target for the collapse of socialism was due in 2023. Communism fell in 1989 and now it is our turn in 2023. Marx’s theories will be remembered throughout history. I find it interesting that it is forbidden even in the Ten Commandments warning that this idea of rob from one class to hand to another has never worked. We must now pay the price for this theory. When it was first imposed, over 200 million people died resisting communism in Russia and China. It is ironic that now we are the Marxism trying to impose our will upon Russia and China. What goes around, comes around.

Russia has been unable to use its air power because NATO is providing Ukraine with all the tactical information needed so they only need to turn on their radar minutes before launching and as such Russia cannot destroy those systems which have been supplanted by NATO. Either Russia takes out the AWACs providing that information which then is an act against NATO. The West thinks it is very clever in this arrangement but they really have entered the war and it is just a matter of time that this escalates out of control.

The danger here is that the West is pushing Russia into a very dangerous position. Russia can terminate the entire supply of arms to Ukraine by destroying dams that also form key bridges over the Dnepr. However, they can score a complete defeat of Ukraine by launching several dozen tactical nuclear weapons. What will NATO do then? These clever tactics of NATO being in the war but pretending they are not is a very risky game.

It is not likely that the West will ever take the advice of Kissinger and apply pressure to Kyiv to come to the table and face this unpleasant reality that they must relinquish their claim to territory occupied by Russians who they absolutely hate.

UN Human Rights Report Shows Ukraine Military Used Nursing Home Residents as Human Shields

Posted originally on the conservative tree house on July 10, 2022 | Sundance

A quietly released study from the U.N. Human Rights Commissioner [See Here pdf] looking into allegations of war crimes conducted during the Ukraine -vs- Russia conflict, specifically looked into allegations of Russian military targeting a nursing home facility in the eastern region of Luhansk.

What the UN investigation revealed was that Ukraine military soldiers had intentionally used the nursing home as an active base to launch military strikes against Russian forces. The Associated Press was forced to reveal, “Ukraine’s armed forces bear a large, and perhaps equal, share of the blame for what happened in Stara Krasnyanka, which is about 580 kilometers (360 miles) southeast of Kyiv. A few days before the attack, Ukrainian soldiers took up positions inside the nursing home, effectively making the building a target.”

The issue of the Ukraine military, intentionally and with purposeful forethought, using civilian locations to embed their military units, highlights the inherent dangers associated with western propaganda during the conflict.  In fact, the effort to create civilian casualties seems more purposeful as a strategy to gain western media support and create stories that can be used to advance sympathy toward Ukraine, even if it means putting their own civilians in harm’s way.

(Via AP) […]  The report by the U.N.’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights doesn’t conclude the Ukrainian soldiers or the Russian troops committed a war crime. But it said the battle at the Stara Krasnyanka nursing home is emblematic of the human rights office’s concerns over the potential use of “human shields” to prevent military operations in certain areas.

The aftermath of the attack on the Stara Krasnyanka home also provides a window into how both Russia and Ukraine move quickly to set the narrative for how events are unfolding on the ground — even when those events may still be shrouded by the fog of war.

For Ukraine, maintaining the upper hand in the fight for hearts and minds helps to ensure the continued flow of billions of dollars in Western military and humanitarian aid.

[…] David Crane, a former Defense Department official and a veteran of numerous international war crime investigations, said the Ukrainian forces may have violated the laws of armed conflict by not evacuating the nursing home’s residents and staff.

“The bottom-line rule is that civilians cannot intentionally be targeted. Period. For whatever reason,” Crane said. “The Ukrainians placed those people in a situation which was a killing zone. And you can’t do that.” (read more)

Keep in mind, the United States is funding Ukraine to fight this war.  Without U.S. funding, including the shipments of weapons, the training of military units and the embedding of U.S. special forces to assist the Ukraine military, Ukraine and Russian governments would have likely entered into peace negotiations.
