Will Gold Complete the September Rally?

GCNYNF-W 9-24-2015

Gold’s rally into the target weeks for the ECM appear to be linked to the potential crisis in European banking. This has nothing to do with the dollar, fiat, inflation, or whatever. The only reason gold rises is the hedge against real crisis and uncertainty.

GCFOR-W 9-24-2015

Gold may not be sustainable. We really need to see a weekly closing above 1188 to think that there is some sustainability short-term. We need that signal to reach the technical resistance in the mid-1200 level. We have a crisis in confidence and a crisis in German banking during the ECM target on Sept. 30/Oct. 1, which will shake the tree of public confidence on a major global level.

Bubble Bubble Where is the Bubble

Bubble Bubble Where is the Bubble

DJIND-W 9-23-2015

It is fascinating that when I warn of anything using the word “CRASH” newspapers immediate report it as I am forecasting a crash in the stock market. This demonstrates that there is no consideration that government can also crash and burn – the perfect example of 100% confidence. Yes, if this week simply closes on the Dow below 16280, then we can be looking at that slingshot move I have warned about where in one year, we have a crash and a swing to the upside to new highs. These type of events are the ultimate mind game, but that is how they destroy the majority. As for those who write asking which investment will be safe – the answer is NONE.

SV1919-YWhile those who distort the events of the Great Depression to sell gold or whatever, keep in mind that commodities peaked in 1919 and bottomed WITH stocks in 1932. Real Estate peaked in 1927 followed by bonds when the Fed cut rates to try to help Europe, then everything reversed and stocks soared in 1929 and then crashed and burned into 1932 bottoming with commodities.

There was NO SINGLE INVESTMENT left standing – ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. So why the charlatans are trying to sell you newsletter with promises of if you just bought this letter you will make 20,000%, keep in mind this is a period of survival we are entering – not wild speculation. If you do not understand the nature of the beast, the beast will have you for lunch.

DJFOR-W 9-23-2015

So what we have to grasp here is that this is a well organized collapse. Each sector will collapse and in turn set in motion the next. If we get this week-end closing below 16280, then we may be headed for a retest of the August low going into October.

This will be the most difficult period ahead to actually forecast so pay attention. We are entering a period of chaos that BEGINS with 2015.75, it does not end there with some crash. THIS IS BEGINNING not the END.

WorldEconomy

Remember, if the stocks decline into 2015.75, that should push more and more capital into government bonds completing the BUBBLE. This is by no means a BUBBLE in stocks, commodities, or the dollar. This is a peak in GOVERNMENT. This is not even a Kondratieff Wave based upon commodities. This is the 309.6 year cycle in government and unfortunately, the other side of 2015.75 is not looking very pretty. This not about just the collapse of Europe. This is the collapse of Western forms of government that aids the shift in the financial capital of world to China by 2032. These shifts in global economic trends are measured in hundreds of years and unfortunately, we have a front row seat. It’s Just Time.

The Future Rests in the Hands of the Youth

Past-Now-Future

QUESTION: Hi mr. Armstrong,

I’m aware of your blog for almost a year and try to daily follow your posts. I’m from the Netherlands and also over here government and other officials try to make the people believe that we’re recovering from the economic crisis. There is no mention given about a coming debt crisis.
I as 23 year old student worrying about my future. Classmates and friends experience hard times to find jobs and start a family. In these times it is almost impossible to find a job paying a non slavery salary. Let alone the recent requirements to get a mortgage.
My question to you: how to deal with these developments in these turbulent times? What can i, as student with minimal savings, do to ‘survive’ the coming sovereign debt crisis and to life a fulfilling live?
Just go on with your posts! You’re opening a lot of eyes worldwide.
Best regards,
PV

ANSWER: I have met with students in Paris and throughout Europe. The politicians cannot understand that they are destroying your future. All they can see is their need to retain power, but the high levels of taxes are so burdensome that they are preventing the creation of new jobs. The zero to negative interest rates has resulted in the elderly still working because they cannot afford to retire.

We are reaching the end of this noose around our neck that was placed there by Marx. It is interesting how in the USA they call me a “conservative”, yet in France, they call me a “liberal” because I am against authoritative socialism. The labels change, but the message remains the same.

Why did Marxism collapse? Because government cannot create anything new for that requires the freedom to act and imagine which is exclusively an individual trait. Government creates nothing. They are the great destroyer. Companies grow and become bureaucratic. In the process, they terminate the creative genius upon which all companies are found. A creative person is a NON-CONFORMIST. Consequently, they do not suffer regulation and bureaucratic systems. So in come the lawyers and the accountants who then eject the creativity from the board, exactly as Apple got rid of Steve Jobs. Once the creative person is gone, the company begins its slow death. At first, they buy startups and pay huge money to gain creativity. In the end, bureaucracy kills the corporation for the very same reason government destroys the economy and shrinks it, no matter what they pretend.

The is just one aspect that Marx could not see for there is no difference between a corrupt bureaucratic CEO running a company and a corrupt bureaucratic politician. Hence, socialism cannot survive for it lowers the living standard of the whole.

It is nice that we have social programs, but that came at a huge cost. Families were once tight groups for your children were your retirement since they took care of their parents in old age. Today, children no longer save to take care of their parents — that’s government’s job. Consequently, Eastern Europe and Asia (excluding Japan) are far better situated to cope with the future for they do not rely upon government. The distrust of government in former communist areas is many times as much of what you will find in Europe or North America, and indeed the majority rather than a minority. This will greatly insulate those regions from the worst decline compared to Europe and North America.

What you need to do is take back government. You cannot create a solution with the same line of thinking that created the current mess. The future belongs to the youth. Understand the devil you are dancing with. It is time to become politically active and challenge the establishment for that is the only way to save the future.

Many people do not appreciate what Thomas Jefferson defined as part of the entire No Taxation Without Representation issue. True, this began by the fact that taxes were not a right of the king and could only be authorized with the CONSENT of the people, which was given by their REPRESENTATIVES in Parliament.  The “representation” was originally by the people for these representatives were NOT career politicians. We have lost ALL representation for politicians have become the career bureaucrats and thus exempt themselves from most of the laws they inflict upon the rest of us. So once again the system has evolved into career politicians whereby we have lost all real representation transforming us into the property of the state to be herded like cattle and taxed to sustain the bureaucrats. This was PRECISELY what led to the fall of Rome. As the bureaucrats (army) were not paid, they would nominal a new emperor and anyone who opposed saw their cities sacked and their inhabitants killed. This would be like Chicago invading New York because the employees of Illinois were broke.

While we may not yet be at that stage in the game since money is intangible for now, thanks to Marx, we are targeting the rich. Of course There was Maximinus I (235-238AD) whose reign lasted about 3.14 years. He simply declared ALL wealth within the Roman Empire belonged to the state (him) and paid rewards for anyone who gave information about someone hiding wealth precisely as governments do today – Germany & France paying bribes to Swiss Bankers to destroy their own country, US International Revenue Service paying rewards for reporting anyone not paying their taxes to such informants all precisely as Maximinis I operated.

Today, Jefferson-Sigwe once again have taxation without representation for those in office never represent the people but only government interest. But Jefferson added another dimension. Jefferson saw a national debt as two evils. First there was the fiscal problem of debt and interest. However, there was also a philosophical problem that everyone seems to overlook and this is the origin of the crisis faced by the Youth.
Jefferson explained in a lettered dated September 6th, 1789 he wrote to James Madison stating that “the earth belongs ,,, to the living” and therefore “the dead have neither powers nor rights over it” whereby one’s parents had no authority to impose decisions upon their children and posterity who had no part in making them and that “every constitution,” “every law,” and every public debt should expire within a generation of its enactment. “If it be enforced longer,” he argued, “it is an act of force, and of right.” (PTJm 15:392, 396)

Therefore, I fully agree with Jefferson. You are burdened and your future has been predetermined for you are being taxed without any choice in the matter. You have been stripped of all your rights and your future has been stolen by socialists who wanted to live well by robbing you of your freedom and capacity to determine your own future. For this, you must become politically active. Taxation is evil, and we no longer need taxation since money is no longer a commodity. Money is purely representational dependent upon faith and confidence. Government should not be allowed to borrow, for money should be created for its expense limited to a percent of GDP that cannot be increased except in time of war if ATTACKED – not like a 100 years war to justify taxation.

Analysis of the Methods used by NASA to Determine Global Temperature

The following chart was produced from information published monthly by NASA-GISS on their website in a table designated the land ocean temperature index, LOTI, which contains temperature deviations from a base of 14.0 degrees Celsius. These deviations are in hundredths of a degree Celsius and are called anomalies and NASA almost never uses actual temperatures in what they do. Personally I do not support this method since the base period, 1951 to 1980, is totally arbitrary and has no significance.

This chart was created after several years of observing strange movements in the values posted in the LOTI table. These changes result from NASA recalculating the entire data set each month when the new month was added to the chart. When I first realized this I thought it was just random movements that would cancel out; but that turned out to not be the case and the movements were observed to follow patterns. I have written about this many times over the past few years but these movements have become more and more out of touch with reality as NASA tries to make the global temperatures match the need of the Obama administration and the COP21 conference, to be held in Paris in November 2015 for “high” global temperatures to justify the world tax on carbon that will be proposed in the UN early 2016. There will be two more releases between now and when the conference starts, one for September and one for October which will be coming out just when the conference starts.

000 chart NASA Problems

There are three categories shown in this chart: the first is the period 1880 to 1950 containing 840 monthly values and shown in blue circles, the second is the period 1951 to 1980 containing 360 monthly values shown in black diamonds, and the last is the period 1981 to the present containing 312 values as of August 2015 and shown in red squares. The plot shown in each case is the average anomaly for all the values in that category for the indicated month of publication. Unfortunately I did not save all the printouts of the LOTI tables as I assumed that they would be available online if needed. Sadly that is not true and so there are large gaps in the chart until late in 2012.

Since NASA has designated the period 1951 to 1980 as the 14.0 degree Celsius base it can by definition not change and NASA has done a good job of making the 30 year period work out to near zero, as can be seen in the black diamonds. However, if the individual months are looked at a slightly different look appears. Basally the earlier portion in the 50’s moves down and the newer portion in the 70’s move up such that the average stays zero. This is required to support the changes in the other two periods. It’s important to understand that this period MUST equal zero and since the values in this LOTI table are always changing the software has to be set to make this period come out to zero. When plots are made of the monthly NASA issues a teeter totter effect can be observed with the pivot point being 1951 to 1980.

Now the period 1880 to 1950 in blue is historical and so one would think is fixed; however NASA does not buy that the past cannot be changed. Ignoring the one 2008 value we look at the four 2009 and 2010 values and then look at the 2012 to 2014 values and we see a shift of about five hundredths of a degree down which is a major shift. Then in 2014 and 2015 the plot gets erratic as NASA starts to do serious manipulation of the data and temporarily loses control of the system. NASA must have been directed to make sure that 2015 was the hottest year ever and that required a lot of program changes to make that happen. Getting the right (political) outcome would not be an easy task and so it apparently it took the programmers a few months to get it right.

The current period 1981 to the present (August 2015) is the most important one, politically, and is shown here as the red squares. The red plots look “reasonable” though 2014 and then like the blue things start to get erratic. Keep in mind that each point on the chart represents an average of hundreds of values so a noticeable change cannot be from random movements. The red plots contain over 300 values so to see a jump in the plots as seen in 2015 especially in the last several monthly publications is very unlikely to be “natural” for it indicates that a large numbers of values have suddenly gone up not just a few in the current months.

This manipulation can also be seen in the blue plots after 2014 where it is even harder to change the average as there are 840 values here. I am sure that this manipulation will continue through the end of the year so that there can be a case made to justify a carbon tax on all the US Canada and the EU. This tax will be proposed by Obama and the catholic Pope and passed by the UN in early 2016. I would be very surprised if the red plot doesn’t reach 50 or greater by the end of the year.

These large upward changes to the global temperature are not supported by the satellites that also measure temperatures, so there is some discussion being proposed that there are errors in the satellites and/or in their calibration since they to do support the NASA ground data showing large increases. I would not be surprised if an error was found in the next few months that shows that the satellites data is not right.

Hopefully I am wrong in my assessment and I would love to be proved wrong. I will update this chart for the rest of the year so we can see what is going on with the data.

Believing in Nonsense

Believing in Nonsense

Global Warming

QUESTION: How can you refute all the evidence that there is global warming and climate change caused by man?

ANSWER: First, you should not be reading this blog for you obviously believe in government propaganda no matter what the field that is put out by the academic community. Global Warming is on par with Marxism and how handing all power to government will prevent recessions.

Even in economics, I was told to be a good boy, put out studies with predetermined conclusions and I would make millions per year for every bill passed by government requires a bogus economic study. There are some academics who are independent free thinkers such as Milton Friedman. Those who are willing to buck government and who are not on the gravy train of government subsidies are the minority. The same is true with this nonsense that man is entirely behind climate change and there is nothing that is a natural cyclical force such as the energy output of the sun is not even considered. If you just accept global warming/climate change is entirely caused by man, please stop reading this blog for you will also believe whatever government tells you with their equally bogus economic statistics so you are not going to make it to the other side.

The entire theory of man caused climate change is nonsense as if this is something created since the 1920s with absolutely no study whatsoever of the cyclical nature of the climate pre-1920. These bogus corrupt “scientists” (using the word very loosely since they sell out to the highest bidder) do not demonstrate ANYTHING historically, yet you try to put the burden on me to prove a bogus theory is wrong. You begin with accepting whatever they say is true and then demand I prove a negative is negative. These bought and paid for “scientists” have provided no documented study for thousands of years and they keep manipulating the data to try to pretend they are right when ALL independent research demonstrates they are dead wrong. The North Pole moves yet their stations are fixed and declare it is getting warming because the pole moved further away. The North Pole is moving to Russia. There is even evidence that the poles flip on Earth as they do on the sun. Where the sun poles flip north to south about every 11 years, on when Earth the poles flip are measure in hundreds of thousands of years but we are overdue.

These really corrupt scientists’ entire theory of greenhouse gases has been based upon assuming temperature throughout the troposphere would be constant but for human activity. If they were financial analysts they would conclude after a 3 year bull market that stock only go up or like the gold promoters who claim every rally is real and declines are manipulations for they can see only one side. These corrupt pretend scientists assume that carbon dioxide and methane raise the surface temperature of the planet because they assume that temperature would be the same at all levels in the troposphere if there were no greenhouse gases. Of course they have no data to ever prove that such a perfect state of equal temperatures ever existed. They are so off the planet demonstrating that they completely fail to comprehend how a dynamic system works.

So sorry. The burden is yours, not mine. Show me a study that proves these theories for thousands of years. Then and only then is it even worth discussing.

These people flew a plane over the South Pole and said OMG, there is a hole in the Ozone so we must have caused it! They are clueless to demonstrate that there was never a hole before. It is just amazing. They have put forth NOTHING to prove their theory before 1900 and attribute everything to human activity. Sure we do not want to be in a city that you cannot breath. London use to be that way in the 1980s. It has been cleaned up and buses where the main culprit.

Now that cars are more efficient and electric cars are starting to take over, states are looking to switch to taxing people per mile they drive because revenue has declined from gasoline. Even government realize the peak in fossil fuel is past us and this also contributes to why oil has entered a new phase. All the data from satellites proves that temperatures have been declining for almost the past two decades. But academics get checks from government for studies. The last economist who told a government they were wrong after taking the head job to draft the business plan was Kondratieff. If you do not put out studies that say what government wants to hear, you do not get paid. That is the simple fact. It is the same in every field.

The FED is now TRAPPED Between the ROCK and the HARD PLACE

Yellen Is Trapped in the Worst Nightmare Ever

yellen-Janet

Yellen has inherited a complete nightmare. Thursday’s decision to delay yet again the long-awaited liftoff from zero interest rates is illustrating that the world economy is totally screwed. There is a lot of speculation about why the Fed seems so reluctant to “normalize monetary policy”. There are of course the typical domestic issues that there is low inflation, weak wage gains in the face of strong job growth, a hike will increase the Federal deficit and then there is the argument that corporations that now have $12.5 trillion in debt. All that is nice, but with corporate debt, our clients are locking in long-term at these levels, not funding anything short-term. Those clients who have listened are preparing for what is to come unlike government which has been forced to shorten the average duration of their debts blind to what happens when rates rise, which will be set in motion by the markets – not Yellen.

Fed is really caught between a rock and a very dark place. Yes, they have the IMF and the world pleading with them not to raise rates for it will hurt other debtors who borrowed excessively using dollars to save money. The Fed is also caught between domestic policy objectives that dictate they MUST raise rates of they will bankrupt countless pension funds and international where emerging markets will go into default because commodities have collapsed and they have no way of paying off this debt that has risen to about 50% of the US national debt.
By avoiding the normalization of interest rates (hikes), the Fed has encouraged government to spend far more than they realize because money is cheap. This will eventually light the fire under the economy helping to fuel the Sovereign Debt Crisis. There appears to be no hope for the Fed and they will be forced to raise rates only when they see asset inflation in equities. Then they will have no choice. This is the worst possible mess and the longer they have waited to normalize interest rates, the worst the total crisis is becoming for they will have zero control over the economy and once that is seen, holy Hell will break lose.

40 Shocking Quotes from Barack Obama on Islam and Christianity

Its very hard to believe that Obama is not a Shea Muslim, worst case; or a supporter of the Islamic belief that Islam is superior to Christian beliefs,  best case. Neither case is good and the results of his presidency are a disaster as Islam has prospered and Christianity has been neutered.

The following is a Re-Post from the Conservative Tribune

Obama’s quotes on Islam:

1. “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”

2. “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer”

3. “We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world — including in my own country.”

4. “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.”

5. “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.”

6. “Islam has always been part of America”

7. “we will encourage more Americans to study in Muslim communities”

8. “These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.”

9. “America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles of justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”

10. “I made it clear that America is not – and will never be – at war with Islam.”

11. “Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism – it is an important part of promoting peace.”

12. “So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed”

13. “In ancient times and in our times, Muslim communities have been at the forefront of innovation and education.”

14. “Throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”

15. “Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality”

16. “The Holy Koran tells us, ‘O mankind! We have created you male and a female; and we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.’”

17. “I look forward to hosting an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan here at the White House later this week, and wish you a blessed month.”

18. “We’ve seen those results in generations of Muslim immigrants – farmers and factory workers, helping to lay the railroads and build our cities, the Muslim innovators who helped build some of our highest skyscrapers and who helped unlock the secrets of our universe.”

19. “That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn’t. And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.”

20. “I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.”

Now, let’s compare those quotes to what he has said about Christianity:

1. “Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation”

2. “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.”

3. “Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is OK and that eating shellfish is an abomination? Or we could go with Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith?”

4. “Even those who claim the Bible’s inerrancy make distinctions between Scriptural edicts, sensing that some passages – the Ten Commandments, say, or a belief in Christ’s divinity – are central to Christian faith, while others are more culturally specific and may be modified to accommodate modern life.”

5. “The American people intuitively understand this, which is why the majority of Catholics practice birth control and some of those opposed to gay marriage nevertheless are opposed to a Constitutional amendment to ban it. Religious leadership need not accept such wisdom in counseling their flocks, but they should recognize this wisdom in their politics.”

6. From Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope: “I am not willing to have the state deny American citizens a civil union that confers equivalent rights on such basic matters as hospital visitation or health insurance coverage simply because the people they love are of the same sex—nor am I willing to accept a reading of the Bible that considers an obscure line in Romans to be more defining of Christianity than the Sermon on the Mount.”

7. Obama’s response when asked what his definition of sin is: “Being out of alignment with my values.”

8. “If all it took was someone proclaiming I believe Jesus Christ and that he died for my sins, and that was all there was to it, people wouldn’t have to keep coming to church, would they.”

9. “This is something that I’m sure I’d have serious debates with my fellow Christians about. I think that the difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and prostelytize. There’s the belief, certainly in some quarters, that people haven’t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior that they’re going to hell.”

10. “I find it hard to believe that my God would consign four-fifths of the world to hell. I can’t imagine that my God would allow some little Hindu kid in India who never interacts with the Christian faith to somehow burn for all eternity. That’s just not part of my religious makeup.”

11. “I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. But I feel very strongly that whether the reward is in the here and now or in the hereafter, the aligning myself to my faith and my values is a good thing.”

12. “I’ve said this before, and I know this raises questions in the minds of some evangelicals. I do not believe that my mother, who never formally embraced Christianity as far as I know … I do not believe she went to hell.”

13. “Those opposed to abortion cannot simply invoke God’s will–they have to explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths.”

14. On his support for civil unions for gay couples: “If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount.”

15. “You got into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

16. “In our household, the Bible, the Koran and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology”

17. “On Easter or Christmas Day, my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites.”

18. “We have Jews, Muslims, Hindus, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, and their own path to grace is one that we have to revere and respect as much as our own”

19. “All of us have a responsibility to work for the day when the mothers of Israelis and Palestinians can see their children grow up without fear; when the Holy Land of the three great faiths is the place of peace that God intended it to be; when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Isra— (applause) — as in the story of Isra, when Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed, peace be upon them, joined in prayer. (Applause.)”

20. “I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

I do not agree with this part of the post and I think the author talks himslef out of the proposition that Obama is not Muslim, as he continues. Further he has surrounded himself with Muslims not Christians, or any other faith, especially in critical government positions.

Occam Razor, “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck”

We don’t think that Obama is a closet Muslim. He simply espouses theological universalism, or the idea that all religions have truth in them and somehow all end up in the same place when it comes to eternity.

The problem is that truth, by its very nature, is exclusive. All religions make exclusive claims – that’s not something that’s unique to Christianity. As Tim Keller put it, “All claims are exclusive. The Gospel is an exclusive truth but it’s the most inclusive exclusive truth in the world.”

Obama’s idea of pluralism is an interesting one. He praises Islam for being so “tolerant” and criticizes Christianity for not being accommodating enough to Muslims. He also says that we must not “slander the prophet of Islam.” Yet there is no mention of violent, oppressive shariah law, nor is there any mention of the slaughter of Christians in the Middle East at the hands of Muslims.

Obama lauds Islam’s great history yet goes after conservative Christians who want to practice their faith in the public square. Whether it’s Hobby Lobby or Catholic organizations and charities being discriminated against by Obamacare, Obama has shown little tolerance for those groups when it comes to their free exercise of religion. This isn’t true pluralism, it’s pluralism on his terms, and it’s disgusting and hypocritical.

Can We Avert the End of America?

By Prof. Paul Eidelberg  April 2014

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”

  – George Bernard Shaw

Part I. In his book Who Are We? (Simon & Schuster, 2004), the eminent Harvard professor of political science Samuel Huntington writes:

Muslims, particularly Arab Muslims, seem slow to assimilate compared to other post-1965 groups….  A study of Los Angeles Muslims found ambivalent attitudes toward America: “a significant number of Muslims, particularly immigrant Muslims, do not have close ties or loyalty to the United States.” When asked whether they had “closer ties or loyalty to Islamic countries (perhaps your country of birth) or the United States,” 45 percent of the immigrants said Islamic countries, 10 percent the United States, and 32 percent about the same.  Among American-born Muslims, 19 percent chose Islamic countries, 38 percent the United States, and 32 percent about the same. Fifty-seven percent said that “if given the choice, [they] would leave the United States to live in an Islamic country.

Part II. Attacking Iran

Suppose the United States attacked Iran to stop its development of nuclear weapons. Could the police and the National Guard quell Muslim riots in any major city of the United States – riots instigated by imams?

Part III. The Post-Americans

In “The Liberal Newcomers,” Phyllis Schlafly (February 3, 2014), writes:

People come to America because it is a remarkable oasis of freedom, prosperity, and opportunity. Conservatives recognize that the principal reason for our unique abundance is our constitutional restraint on the power of government….

Maintaining this system requires the public to support limited government. In a new report, Eagle Forum details how immigration is fundamentally changing the electorate to one that is much more supportive of big government.

By itself, the annual flow of 1.1 million legal immigrants under the current system will create more than 5 million new potential voters by 2024 and more than 8 million by 2028. Congressional Budget Office projections indicate that under the Senate Gang of Eight’s S.744 bill, the total additional potential voters would rise to nearly 10 million by 2024 and 18 million by 2028.

The influx of these new voters would reduce or eliminate Republicans’ ability to offer an alternative to big government, to increased government spending, to higher taxes, and to favorite liberal policies such as Obamacare and gun control.

There is nothing controversial about the report’s conclusion that both Hispanics and Asians, who account for about three-fourth of today’s immigrants, generally agree with the Democrats’ big-government agenda. It is for this reason that they vote two-to-one for Democrats. The 2008 National Annenberg Election Survey found that 62 percent of immigrants prefer a single, government-run health-care system. The 2010 Cooperative Congressional Election Study found that 69 percent of immigrants support Obamacare. Pew also found that 53 percent of Hispanics have a negative view of capitalism, the highest of any group surveyed. This is even higher than the 47 percent among self-identified supporters of Occupy Wall Street.

The Pew Research Center has also found that 75 percent of Hispanics prefer a “bigger government providing more services,” and only 19 percent prefer a smaller government. Pew also reported that 55 percent of Asians prefer “bigger government providing more services,” and only 36 percent prefer a smaller government. So it’s no surprise that in 2012, 71 percent of Hispanics and 73 percent of Asians voted for Obama.

Even Republican emphasis on patriotism and national sovereignty is likely to alienate many immigrants. A Harris poll found that 81 percent of native-born Americans believe our schools should teach students to be proud of being American, compared with only 50 percent of immigrants who had become naturalized U.S. citizens. Only 37 percent of naturalized citizens (compared with 67 percent of native-born citizens) think our Constitution is a higher legal authority than international law.

While it seems that much of the Republican-party leadership has not actually looked at the policy preferences of immigrants, everyone else who has looked at the polls comes to the conclusion that significant majorities of immigrants and their children are big-government liberals. The New York Times’ Washington bureau chief admitted last year that “the two fastest-growing ethnic groups – Latinos and Asian-Americans – are decidedly liberal.” As University of Alabama political scientist George Hawley observes, “Immigrants are well to the left of the American public on a number of key issues.” He also makes clear that “liberalizing immigration will liberalize the U.S.” Heather MacDonald of the Manhattan Institute points out that it “is not immigration policy that creates the strong bond between Hispanics and the Democratic party, but the core Democratic principles of a more generous safety net, strong government intervention in the economy, and progressive taxation.” Immigration in general – not race – is the issue.

The limited data for other immigrants – including Europeans and Muslims – indicate that they, too, generally hold views well to the left of the average American voter. In fact, as discussed in our new report, for reasons largely outside the control of conservatives, immigrants and their children gravitate to left-wing parties in almost all Western countries. The problem for conservatives is not race or ethnicity but immigration as such.

In the Politics, Aristotle warns that one cause of revolution – meaning change in the basic character of a regime – is “heterogeneity of stock.”  America’s founding fathers were aware of this, and wanted to put meaningful restraints on eligibility for citizenship in America.

Is there a way to avert the end of America? Perhaps, but it would require bold, architectonic statesmanship.
