Putin’s May 9th Speech – The Full Review

Armstrong Economics Blog/Russia Re-Posted May 10, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

The West keeps getting Putin wrong mainly because they have taken the Blue Pill and just repeat the propaganda put out by primarily the United States government. They told all journalists that Putin would formally declare war on Ukraine, institute a draft, and call up all reservists. The Western Press continually denies the existence of any Ukrainian Nazis despite the fact that they are well documented and claims Zelensky could not be a neo-Nazi because he is Jewish and omits the fact that (1) his children were baptized and he is a non-practicing Jew, and (2) the Ukrainian Nazis were exterminating not just Jews, but Polish and Russians. No doubt, Zelensky became Christian because of the prejudice against Jews in Ukraine. But the US never prosecuted any Ukrainian Nazis because they were also ethnically cleansing Russians. Only the German Nazis were put on trial for killing the Jews — Ukrainian Nazis got a free pass.

Of course, Putin did nothing of the kind. But the stories in the Western press are continually pushing for World War III. They are always painting the picture that Russia is being defeated in order to pretend that the West can crush Russia. Nancy Pelosi declared a virtual war in Kyiv, making it clear that there would be no peace talks, and she will not accept anything but victory against Russia. Nowhere do we find the Western Press even acknowledging the existence of the Minsk Agreement that was also to allow the Donbas to secede if they held a free election since they objected to the revolution carried out by the West.

While the West reports that Russia is losing, they hide the stories that show the failure inside the Ukrainian Army. The elite Candian Sharpshooter who made headlines that he was going to Ukraine to support freedom against tyranny, has turned around and returned to Canada. He returned to Quebec, telling local media that his experience there was a “terrible disappointment.” He claimed there was poor training and heavy losses among the Ukrainians, but there was profiteering and desertion in the ranks.

Walli, as he was known, was described by Spanish media as “the best sniper in the world” and praised by the New York Post for “grabbing anti-tank missiles in a warehouse to kill real people.”  But he told La Presse that his Ukrainian commanders initially “didn’t know what to do” with foreign fighters like himself. He grew tired of waiting for an opportunity to fight, so he joined the ‘Norman Brigade,’ which was a private unit led by another former soldier from Quebec. He said that the weapons and armor promised never showed up. He reported that about 60 members of the brigade have since deserted. Others told La Presse that some soldiers “schemed” to steal a $500,000 shipment of American-supplied weapons and form their own unit. The speculation is that the American weapons going to Ukraine may find themselves on the black market as was the case in Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

When Zelensky was elected, he promised to reduce the tensions with Russia, for even CNN said back in 2019 that “Ukraine has been locked in a proxy war with Russia for five years, and the conflict has claimed around 13,000 lives in the country’s east.” Of course, now nobody will report the truth that the United States has been fueling this civil war in Ukraine all to stab Russia in the gut – the hated enemies of the Neocons who see all Russians as Stalin.

Interestingly, the Kremlin was hopeful that Zelensky would end the proxy war of the United States against Russia. His predecessor, Poroshenko, was seen as pro-war. In fact, CNN also reported that Russia was optimistic. They wrote:

“There are chances to improve Ukraine’s interaction with our country,” Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Facebook. “What is needed for this? Honesty. And we need a pragmatic and responsible approach.

CNN further reported that Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had suggested Kyiv could actually change the direction of the country. CNN quoted her saying“With all the understanding of how the world works behind the scenes, I’ll still say: Ukraine can go for a reset.” The hope in Russia that Zelensky would carry out his campaign promise to seek peace and end the civil war died very quickly.

The propaganda is overwhelming and is desperately following what Ben Franklin warned about war is when the government tells you who is the bad guy and revolution is when you decide for yourself. The Western Press is always desperate to paint Puttin and Russia as the bad guy. That is classic state propaganda. There are never saints and ethics on the battlefield. You do what you must to survive.

The Telegraph put out the propaganda that Putin’s invasion had failed because it had not gone as planned since he was not “reviewing today’s Victory Day parade in Kyiv’s Independence Square.” From the outset, Putin made it clear he was not interested in conquering Ukraine and was there only to liberate the Russian region of Donbas. When the US invades to take over a country, they first destroy the power grid, communications, and water. Putin has done none of them showing he never intended to conquer Ukraine but just liberate the Donbas as he stated.  The question is rather clear. Why is the press putting out complete propaganda? The May 9th Victory Day Parade is always held in Moscow, and often Americans travel there to celebrate the victory over Hitler’s Nazis.

Putin addressed Russia’s military operation in Ukraine as a preemptive move against future aggression. He outlined this during his Victory Day parade speech in Red Square in Moscow on Monday, which the reviews in the West I read omitted. Putin praised the achievement of the Soviet people during World War II, however, he also addressed the reasons for the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kyiv stating that Russia had to take action because of the large-scale offensive against the republics in the eastern Donbas which has been supported by the American Neocons since 2016. Putin said:

“We saw the military infrastructure unfolding [in Ukraine]; hundreds of foreign advisers starting their work; there were regular deliveries of the most modern weapons from NATO countries. The danger grew every day,” he further explained.

“Russia gave a preemptive rebuff to aggression – this was a forced, timely, and the only right decision by a sovereign, strong and independent country.”

“Despite all the disagreements in international relations, Russia has always advocated the creation of a system of equal and indivisible security.”

Putin also cited Moscow’s many attempts to engage in a peaceful dialogue on security guarantees with Washington since the Biden Administration came to power, which he outright admitted failed to yield any results.  He stated: “NATO countries didn’t want to hear us, which means that, in fact, they harbored completely different plans, and we saw it.” Putin also stated that their intelligence saw open preparations for a punitive operation in the Donbas under Zelensky and “an invasion of our historical lands, including Crimea.” All of this is absolutely true. Putin’s December 2021 effort to prevent the war the West called his “ultimatum” which was unacceptable.

Naturally, the Western press all seem to have omitted much of the substance of Putin’s speech, for it ran counter to the West’s propaganda. Putin also stated that his decision to act was also that Kyiv had announced plans to restore its nuclear capabilities, which made the press the day before the invasion on February 23, 2022. The US invaded Iraq claiming they intended to create nuclear weapons. I also found it very strange that at the Munich Security Conference on February 20, 2022, the United States sent the VP rather than the Secretary of State, who blurted out that Ukraine should join NATO. Even the trade agreement that Yanukovich rejected which led to the Maidan Revolution for not joining the EU had a clause that he agreed to all the rules and regulations of NATO without formally joining NATO which would have been a violation of the Belgrade Agreement. The West has been clearly pushing for war since 2014.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the US has increasingly spoken of ‘American exceptionalism,’ Putin pointed out. By spreading those ideas, Washington is “humiliating not only the whole world, but also its satellites, which have to pretend that they don’t notice anything and humbly accept it all. But we are a different country,” he insisted.

Russia has a different character, we’ll never give up on our love for our Motherland, on our faith and traditional values and customs of our ancestors; on respect for all peoples and cultures.

But the West has apparently decided to “cancel” those values, with such “moral degradation becoming the basis for cynical falsifications of the history of World War II, and the incitement of Russophobia,” Putin said.

“We know that American veterans, who wanted to come to the parade in Moscow, were basically banned from doing so,” Putin emphasized, trying not to invoke hatred of the American people as is taking place in the West with the demonization of the Russian people. Putin clearly emphasized that Russia remembered the efforts of the US servicemen and their contribution to victory in World War II.

Putin then pointed out  that “the self-defense forces of the Donbas Republics together with the Russian military are fighting on their land… for the Motherland, for its future, to make sure that no one forgets the lessons of World War II so that there would be no place in the world for butchers, punishers, and Nazis.”

Putin further made it clear that Moscow should not repeat the mistakes of the Soviet leadership of 1940-1941. Back then, he explained, the USSR tried not to provoke Nazi Germany by “refraining or postponing the most urgent and obvious preparations it had to make to defend itself from an imminent attack.” As a result of that delay, Russia was not prepared to counter the invasion. Putin continued: “The attempt to appease the aggressor ahead of the Great Patriotic War proved to be a mistake which came at a high cost for our people…We will not make this mistake the second time. We have no right to do so.”

After looking at the Western Press, I find the reporting very disturbing. They try desperately to paint Russia as losing right down to counting the number of troops parading and reporting it was 1 to 2 thousand less than last year, proving Putin is losing. They fail to point out that on December 21, 2021, Putin laid out the issues causing tension and what needed to be resolved. The West laughed and refused to do anything to defend the ethnic Russians in the Donbas.

Ron Paul wrote in his column on April 22nd, 2022: “War is a racket, wrote US Maj. General Smedley Butler in 1935. He explained: “A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small ‘inside’ group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war, a few people make huge fortunes.”

Col. Richard H. Black is a former Republican member of the Virginia State Senate from 2011 to 2020. He did not seek re-election in 2019. The West is putting out nothing but propaganda, and that is obviously a setup for one thing – the overthrow of Russia. Suddenly, the WHO is pushing for total control of the world, forcing digital IDs and vaccination requirements to stop the free movement of people. This is the pre-stage for the push for a one-world government to be under the United Nations.

We face the collapse of Keynesian Economics and the fiscal mismanagement that has taken place since World War II with this constant borrowing with no intention of paying anything back. Combined with the old idea that increasing the money supply is inflationary so it is better to borrow than print, has led to the solution of war because lowering interest rates to NEGATIVE by the European Central Bank in 2014, has wiped out all the pension funds. Without war, the people will be storming the parliaments and probably hanging politicians or carrying their heads on spikes as in the old days.

This is why the West is pushing so desperately for war. My father fought in World War II under General Patton. He let me know that Patton warned back then that Russia was the real enemy and argued to march to Moscow. The reasoning was that they were communists. Those days are long gone. Communism fell and crumbled to the grown for it attempted to alter human nature. But the Neocons do not care if Russia and China are communists anymore. They were enemies back then and they are still enemies today because this is really about ethnic hatred. China may still retain the name the Communist Party, but communism means the government owns everything. Neither China nor Russia are communist today. Instead of building peace, they must now fall because the elites have once again adopted the idea if there is only one government, that will end wars. So we need a war, to end future wars?

Here is the former president of France making that very statement that the purpose of the EU was to end any European war – one government = no war. They forgot their history of Rome. One government, many civil wars.

So while our fearless leaders plot our demise on the battlefield so they do not have to confront the economic nightmare that they have created, the market LIQUIDITY is collapsing rapidly. I would estimate it has imploded by 33% since 2021 and we are headed into a sharp economic recession into 2023. Instead of rational solutions and a public debate, they keep the doors closed to hide the truth from the people while blaming the economic decline and rising inflation on Putin.

Ukrainian Targets in Time & STAGFLATION

Armstrong Economics Blog/Economics Re-Posted May 9, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

QUESTION: Marty, Socrates targeted the week of April 25 and that indeed proved to be critical for Russia to halt the supply of gas to Poland and Bulgaria, which Western leaders called “blackmail. You said you have short-term targets in time for the war. What is the next one?

SH

ANSWER: There appears to be somewhat of a gap and I know the Western press was touting May 9th for some declaration of war by Putin which did not take place. Our next critical target will be the month of June targeting the week of the 24th. Thereafter, August appears to be an important target which again will be August 23/24. This is not going to subside. Putin will not abandon the Donbas. He is there to protect the Russian population. There is no question that this is really a war between the United States and Russia using Ukrainian to die on the battlefield. Eventually, the West will create some sort of False Flag to escalate the war and perhaps commit US boots on the ground. I would say that is more likely for the week of August 23/24 and the Democrats roll out the standard playbook to create a war where the people will not vote against the incumbents – at least that is what they claim in Wonderland – i.e. Washington, DC.

.We are caught in a wave of STAGFLATION and the Fed has only one tool and that is interest rates. They will raise the rates despite the fact that this will have ZERO impact on solving inflation when it is based upon shortages.

Congressional Democrats Say Biden Not Spending Enough on Ukraine, Boost Package to $40 Billion With Vote Likely Tomorrow

Posted originally on the conservative tree house on May 9, 2022 | sundance

The House of Representatives were concerned Joe Biden was not spending enough on the Ukraine laundry operation, so they took his $33 billion request and added another $7 billion making the Ukraine support package $40 billion.

Yes, you read that correctly…  ‘Unbelievable’ is an understatement. I mean seriously, does anyone in Washington DC even talk to their constituents any longer?

The DHS Customs and Border Patrol budget for our border security operations is approximately $4 billion, the Southern border is in crisis.  Meanwhile Biden and Pelosi send over $55 billion to Ukraine?

WASHINGTON, May 9 (Reuters) – U.S. congressional Democrats agreed to rush $39.8 billion in additional aid for Ukraine, two sources familiar with the proposal said on Monday, easing fears a delayed vote could interrupt the flow of U.S. weapons to the Kyiv government.

The House of Representatives could pass the plan, which exceeds President Joe Biden’s request last month for $33 billion, as soon as Tuesday, and Senate leaders said they were also prepared to move quickly.

A proposal for additional COVID-19-related funding, which some Democrats had wanted to combine with the emergency Ukraine funding, will now be considered separately.

Biden on April 28 asked Congress for $33 billion to support Ukraine, including more than $20 billion in military assistance. That proposal was a dramatic escalation of U.S. funding for the war with Russia.  The new proposal includes an additional $3.4 billion for military aid and $3.4 billion in humanitarian aid, the sources said. Is the Pentagon Planning a False Flag to Start WWIII?

Armstrong Economics Blog/War Re-Posted May 9, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

As NATO countries continue to finance Ukraine, Putin has reason to worry. Top Russian advisors are now preparing for “a provocation aimed at accusing the Russian armed forces of using chemical, biological, or tactical nuclear weapons,” Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Force, stated.

The Russians are preparing for three possible scenarios that would result in World War III. The first scenario involves attacking the Russian-controlled Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Station. The Russian Defense Ministry said the nuclear site is in critical condition, which could lead to a disaster that will certainly be blamed on Russia. It would be easy for world leaders to enter a faraway war over the pretense of nukes.

In the second scenario, Kirillov stated that the Pentagon may deploy weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Specifically, the WMDs would target a large steel mill in the port of Mariupol. He believes the US would do this “discreetly” and in small quantities to avoid being detected. The last option, which Kirillov said is the least probable, would be deploying WMDs directly on the battlefield.

Spy drones have already been spotted in the Kherson Region, and Russian officials believe the drones may be spraying biological and chemical weapons, which would be a major war crime. Russia maintains it has disposed of all of its chemical weapons over five years ago. Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN’s top disarmament official, claims that Ukraine does not possess biological weapons. A US diplomat testified before the Senate that the Pentagon is working to ensure that “the materials of biological research do not fall into the hands of Russian forces.” Yet, Ukraine and its supporters deny that any chemicals exist.

There are indeed labs in Ukraine that potentially contain bio-warfare weapons, but Zelensky maintains they are conducting “ordinary scientific research” amid an active war. Zelensky appeared on CNN to say “all countries have to be worried” about Russia using nuclear or chemical weapons. It seems more likely that Ukraine and not Russia is in possession of such agents.

The Left Turns on Newsom

Armsrong Economics Blog/USA Current Events Re-Posted May 9, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

Gavin Newsom’s goal to become the most woke governor in America has backfired as all words are now deemed offensive as well as hand gestures. The internet is ablaze with angry voters who want Gavin out of office for his transphobic comment. His crime? He stated that men cannot get pregnant“If men could get pregnant, this wouldn’t even be a conversation,” the non-inclusive and intolerant governor stated in support of Roe v. Wade. Blaming cis-gendered males is OK and encouraged, but stating that they are unable to carry a child is not.

Newsom carelessly failed to mention the other 71 genders who can also give birth. Schools in the US will begin teaching children all 72 genders and will allow them to choose which ones they like the best. Biden has removed the word “mother” from all government documents in favor of “birthing person.” How will they explain to children that a uterus is necessary to produce life?

The Ministry of Truth will certainly clarify the situation for us. Gavin Newsom said abortion “will be the defining issue of the 2022 election,” which is exactly why the Supreme Court document was leaked. Newsom said he will fight to protect “women” – oh no, there he goes again. If his campaign is built on angering the left, he better tread lightly.

The New Star Trek & World War III

Armstrong economics Blog/AI Computers Re-Posted May 8, 2022 by Martin Armstrong

A lot of people have written in to ask if I have been consulted for the Star Trek series or if some have used our forecast to write scripts. I have not consulted on Star Trek. If people are tapping into our computer forecasts for ideas, I cannot confirm nor deny that. I understand that connection to our model and I can say an awful lot of people do tune in to Socrates. Let’s hope their visual forecast of the future is not so dramatic. If it makes people think twice – it is fantastic. My fear is that those pulling the strings connected to the mouths of world leaders just for once stop with this nonsense of a Great Reset and let’s sit down and revise the world economy in a rational manner.

Bono Showed up in Kyiv, Ukraine Along with Justin From Canada

It’s the new cool thing. It’s the latest rage on Insta. All the most virtuous people are doing it. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to support the movement. Travel to Kyiv, Ukraine, snap a few selfies… Social media archives will record history.  According to pop culture, the Facebook, Insta, Twitter and YouTube social media campaign to save Kyiv, is bigger than the Berlin wall falling.   The CIA, DoS, DHS and Nina Jankowicz have declared it true.

When the conflict in Ukraine first began, the White House announced the victor would be the one who could “tell a better story.”  The war in Ukraine would be determined by who was more likeable on social media.  From that moment forth, winning the PR battle has been the focus.

Within days of the White House declaring the strategy, Google, DuckDuckGo, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter all announced they would filter and block content that did not support World War Reddit.  Anyone who was not supporting Ukraine and “churchill in a T-Shirt” ran the risk of being deplatformed; and so, the strategy has continued through today.

After writing pro-Ukraine poems for Nancy Pelosi to read to congress, now Bono travels to Ukraine. I said on March 1st when Bono shows up, that’s the moment when you know western propaganda over Ukraine will soon apex. Bono’s appearance in any State Dept/CIA construct usually precedes the bombing of the proverbial milk factories and subsequent “babies are casualties of war” narrative.  Well, today:

Anyone else notice that Bono is slowly morphing into Robin Williams?  I digress…

.

Bono wasn’t the only one who showed up to celebrate World War Reddit in Kyiv today.  Justin from Canada was also there…

Trudeau: “The incredible courage captivating the essence of what it means to be Ukraine”...

Zelenskyy: “yeah, yeah… yada, yada,… hurry up Bono’s here and that’s a better photo-op“..

.

Russians be like…

.

Weirdest war ever.

Comrade Neil Oliver Discusses Living as a Dissident Through Orwellian Times

Posted originally on the conservative tree house on May 7, 2022 | Sundance

Comrades, in his weekly monologue Neil Oliver walks through the stages of mental exhaustion the corrupt globalists have created in order to retain power.  Looking at the landscape through the prism of George Orwell’s prescient warnings, Oliver ponders if the mirrored reality is actually their roadmap.

The Ministry of Abundance positioned to discharge the pending scarcity.  The Ministry of Peace now used to carry out wars without authority.  The Ministry of Truth purposefully created to retain lies…. and so it goes.  Indeed as the warning was predicted, even “to wear an improper expression on your face (to look incredulous when a victory was announced, for example) was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak, facecrime it was called.”

The Global Ministry of Nutrition now instructs us to enjoy the benefits of eating bugs, slugs and “lab-grown meat” amid rising costs of farming. The Ministry of Residential Equity promotes the benefits of tiny houses; shared space cubicles where owning nothing leads to increased happiness.  The Ministry of Education replaces academic endeavors with emotional learning.  Math replaced by pansexual dance lessons for the non-binary kindergarteners.   Smile Comrade, smile.  WATCH:

[Transcript] “Given all that’s happened, I might have expected overwhelming anger in the country by now, loud calls for answers and apologies. Promises that mistakes made in the recent past, liberties taken, would not be repeated in the future. Also maybe demands for change.

Many are the dissenting voices – I know because I hear them every day – but the silencing and ridiculing still goes on.

What I sense around me most of all now, however, is weariness. Council elections have been held up and down Great Britain and apart from anything else, I think we can agree that turnout was low.”

In some polling stations in Hull, for example, turnout was down at 12 per cent apparently. In terms of numbers taking part, exercising their democratic right, it was a damp squib all over.

As so often happens in these plebiscites, the day-to-day rule of the many has been decided by the relatively few who could even be bothered to vote. Among that minority are fervently committed activists, of course, those who see and know that power belongs to those who can be bothered.

Most people are not activists though. Most people have more than enough to do just keeping their heads above water. This depressing state of affairs is hardly surprising. In spite of the media’s attempts to whip up excitement about the results, local council elections have been a lacklustre non-event.

I think it’s getting worse, however. I trotted along to my local polling station and made my marks on the paper. It took some effort though. Along with so many people, I’m sure, I looked at the list of names and parties and thought, “What’s the point? What difference will it make?” I looked at the names and knew what the results would be even as I went through the motions of completing my vote.

We hear a lot of use now of the word, Orwellian. It refers to the English journalist and author George Orwell, of course – he of The Road to Wigan Pier, Animal Farm and 1984 and much else besides. I have a podcast in which, for the fun of it, I invite listeners to imagine that reading history is as close to time travel as a person might get. As the years go by, I wonder more and more if George Orwell wasn’t actually a time traveller for real – so right has he proven to be about where decisions made, and actions taken, in the 20th century would lead future generations.

In Animal Farm, his fable about Communism, he predicted the abuse of trust and the exploitation of power. Once the pigs have control of the farm, they immediately set about taking advantage of their situation. When the other animals notice, for instance, that the pigs are taking all the milk and apples for themselves, while everyone else must eat tasteless slop, the pigs’ PR spokesman – called Squealer – explains the move is backed by science:

“Comrades,” he tells them, “You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples – this has been proved by science, comrades – contain substances absolutely necessary to the wellbeing of a pig. We are brainworkers. The whole management and organisation of the farm depends on us.”

I read those lines again and think about the Science we have heard so much about recently. I think too about all the news stories about how good it will be for us as well to eat bugs and lab-grown meat, instead of the good stuff. That’s science too, don’t you know. Then I read about Bill Gates being the biggest owner of farmland in the US and wonder if it will be bugs and lab-grown meat he will produce from all those acres, or maybe cattle for sirloins and corn on the cob for the barbecue. Who could say?

Energy giant E.ON recently sent pairs of polyester socks to customers with the message:

“Energy down – CO2 down”. Those literally in control of the power have been telling people to wear more clothes to fend off the cold, rather than have heating in their homes.

All the while this is going on, oil and gas companies report record profits and bountiful dividends for shareholders.

Follow the science … or follow the money. You choose.

In Animal Farm, before the revolution, the pigs promised the animals that in future they would have electric light in their stalls, hot water as well as cold. Later on, once the pigs have control of the farm, such ideas are silenced. Napoleon, the leader of the pigs, says such notions are contrary to the spirit of Animalism, which is their ideology. He tells them the truest happiness lies in working hard and living frugal lives.

You will own nothing, a person might hear, and you will be happy.

I read about socks in the mail from energy companies. I read about MPs awarding themselves a pay rise in excess of £2,000 a year.

I listen to Boris Johnson justifying tax hikes and the rest.

Asked by a reporter: “What would you say to families trying to make ends meet? Buy cheaper food? Don’t replace clothes? Turn down the thermostat or turn it off altogether? What should people do?”

Boris Johnson answered: “People are obviously going to face choices that they are going to have to make.”

Frugal lives. Napoleon the pig would be proud.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t expect to see Boris Johnson, or Sir Keir Starmer or the rest of them waiting until the end of the day to hit the supermarkets in search of foods reduced to clear. I don’t expect to hear about them choosing between eating and heating.

In 1984, Orwell’s novel about a dystopian future in which the population is kept in a state of perpetual fear, on account of perpetual war with an enemy they never see, he wrote about how inconvenient facts and truth are “memory holed” which is to say, made to disappear. The protagonist is Winston Smith, who works in the Ministry of Truth. Among other state departments there is a Ministry of Plenty, which is actually a ministry of starvation, dedicated to keeping the people in a state of perpetual poverty, scarcity, and food shortage.

In his booth in the Ministry of Truth there is a slot in the wall into which Winston must post any document featuring information that is inconvenient to the government. Such data disappears at that point, as though it had never been – unless of course there comes a time in the future when the information is actually useful to the government again, at which point it miraculously reappears.

Big pharma giant Pfizer have just released the next 80 thousand pages of data related to the trial of their vaccine. 80 thousand pages. Before barely a word of it is read, many are the voices insisting it’s time anyway to move on and forget. It turns out you don’t even need memory holes when information can hide in plain sight among a population too wearied and distracted by other, more recent problems and fears, to pay enough attention.

The very people who would have us move on unquestioningly – politicians, journalists and others – those who demanded lockdowns – longer and harder – are now in the habit of lamenting the harm done by such measures. All of a sudden those that were ardent cheerleaders for the measures that have done so much harm have the unmitigated gall to fret publicly about the economy, about damage to physical and mental health, to the education and physical and emotional development of children. That they were the ones shouting loudest that we should “suck it up” and “cancel Christmas” to save Granny and the NHS, is information that seems to have been shoveled by the barrow load into the nearest memory hole.

I won’t forget, though. And neither will millions of others.

And in among all of this, ordinary tax-paying law-abiding people are simply and understandably exhausted. After two years of fear and anxiety and obeying rules that made no sense to them, many are on their knees. Into this climate of exhaustion came the local elections and, surprise, surprise, most people had energy only for going to work and feeding their families. And in this way, enervating patterns are repeated.

Another writer, Elena Ghorokova, wrote a memoir about life in the Soviet Union called A Mountain of Crumbs. In it she described how the population was ground down by fear, want, and hardship until people found they could cope best by pretending.

The joke about their relationship with the state boiled down to: “They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work.”

The state was lying to the people. The people knew they were being lied to. The state knew the people knew they were being lied to. And still the state lied. It was all a great pretense played by people with power against those with none. And just in order to survive, the mass of the population played their part by joining in the pretense.

Many people are simply at the ends of their tethers – and why wouldn’t they be? We look at our politicians and would-be councillors – at Conservatives, and then at Labour, and then at Lib Dems and the rest. We look from one to the other – at those who called for lockdowns – which is to say prominent members of every party – at those who wanted them in place quicker and harder and for longer. Now we see them clamour for more control, more censorship, more compliance. We look at each in turn and in our hearts and stomachs we wonder if it makes any difference who we choose because in truth they are all the same now.

By the end of Animal Farm, the pigs are walking upright on two legs and wearing human clothes. They carry whips in their trotters. In the final scene, they host a meeting with neighbouring human farmers – the same that they had once claimed to hate as the enemies of all animals. Four legs good, two legs bad, they had once said. The pigs live in the farmhouse now. The other animals, left on the outside, in the farmyard, watch the pigs and human farmers sitting around the table, toasting each other and making plans to cooperate in the future.

“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again,” wrote Orwell. “But already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Is it just me, or does it feel like someone out there is using Orwell’s work not as a warning, but as an owner’s manual?”  (LINK)
