Brussels Organizes Pro-EU Rally in Romania Attempting to Influence Run-Off Election

Posted originally on CTH onMay 9, 2025 | Sundance

Previously we watched Brussels organize pro-EU rallies in Great Britain (they lost), Hungary (they lost), the Netherlands (they lost), Poland (they won), Georgia (they lost), Moldova (they won) while Germany & France still in a state of flux.  Now the EU/NATO operation focuses on Romania.

With eurosceptic George Simion winning the first-round election and leading in the polls, the EU/NATO must increase their influence operation, or they lose position.

The largest NATO base is currently being constructed in Romania and Brussels cannot afford to permit the Romanian people to be an impediment to their militaristic progress.

The narrative is the same each time; if the citizens of the targeted country vote to support their own nationalistic interests, they are Russian sympathizers.

The pro-EU rally organizers are the same people who showed up in Warsaw, Prague, Budapest and Tblisi.

BUCHAREST, May 9 (Reuters) – Thousands of people rallied in Romania’s capital, Bucharest, and other cities in support of the European Union on Friday, one week before a presidential election run-off that could see a hard-right eurosceptic sweep into power.

Hard-right nationalist George Simion won the first round of the presidential ballot on Sunday, and an opinion survey earlier this week showed him leading ahead of the May 18 run-off vote against centrist Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan.

Simion, 38, opposes military aid to Ukraine, is critical of the EU leadership and says he is aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again movement.

Analysts have said a Simion victory could isolate Romania, erode private investment and destabilise NATO’s eastern flank, where Bucharest plays a key role in providing logistical support to Ukraine as it fights a three-year-old Russian invasion.

In Bucharest on Friday, an estimated 15,000 people rallied, waving EU and Romanian flags and chanting, “Russia, don’t forget Romania is not yours” and “We want our country forward not backward.” (read more)

In the larger picture the European Union is a failed effort.  Much of the political support for Ukraine stems from the EU refusal to accept the predictable future.

The control agents in Brussels cling to power through control of the economic conditions, and from that perspective they will align with any entity who permits them to retain a strong financial position.  As we watch this dynamic continue to unfold, I would not be at all surprised to see the EU align itself with China.  Indeed, there are already indications this is happening.

The primary influence that defeats ideology, is money.

Newark New Jersey Mayor Arrested for Criminal Trespass During Political ‘Resistance’ Stunt at ICE Detention Facility

Posted originally on CTH on May 9, 2025 | Sundance

Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka and three congressional representatives, Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez and LaMonica McIver attempted a political stunt at a local ICE detention facility in Newark.  Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested.

The intention of the group was to shut down deportation operations at Delaney Hall, a 1,000-bed detention facility used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of the removal process for illegal aliens. Baraka, Coleman, Menendez and McIver created a public disturbance as part of their stunt and trespassed on federal facilities.

As an outcome, Mayor Ras Baraka was handcuffed and led away by federal authorities as the agitated crowd tried to fight the police and federal officials. WATCH:

NEW JERSEY – […] The arrest followed a chaotic scene in the facility’s parking lot involving protestors, federal law enforcement officers and the three members — Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez and LaMonica McIver — at Delaney Hall. The Trump administration reopened the 1,00-bed facility this month to house migrants amid a lawsuit from the city against the private operator, GEO Group, alleging it does not have the proper inspections and permits. GEO group has denied that allegation.

The interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Alina Habba, confirmed that Baraka was detained.

“The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon,” she wrote on X. “He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”

The detention unfolded after Baraka, who is also running for governor, was apparently allowed inside a fenced parking lot at the facility and then later told to leave.

The three House members had been inside the facility and then came out with officers wearing gear that identified them variously as federal police, ICE and homeland security personnel. At one point, the three Democratic members, who had been seeking a tour of the facility, came out as authorities threatened to arrest Baraka. They all exited to a parking lot outside the fence where protesters had gathered.

The three members then reentered the fenced area, but Menendez quickly came back and warned Baraka that the authorities still wanted to arrest Baraka. When Menendez came to warn Baraka, he looked through the fence and told the mayor, “They are talking about coming out to arrest you.” (read more)

Canada Attempts to Loosens Reliance on US Trade

Canadian exports to the United States are beginning to decrease in light of the trade war. Statistics Canada announced that exports to the United States, Canada’s largest trading partner, declined 6.6% during the first month of tariffs while imports from the United States fell 2.9%. March 2025 was the second-highest recorded monthly increase in non-US trade for Canada.

Exports to nations outside the US rose 24.8%. Overall exports in March 2025 reached $69.9 billion, a slight decrease from February’s $70.04 billion posting, yet volume rose by 1.8%. The United Kingdom has been purchasing unwrought (crude) gold exports from Canada this year, totaling C$2.01 billion in January, C$1.64 billion in February, and C$1.64 billon this March.

Canada’s crude oil sea exports doubled on an annual basis to 8 million barrels this month. The United Kingdom and the Netherlands imported 69% of all crude oil exports to Europe. Hong Kong also increased its crude imports from Canada in March.

Overall merchandise trade exports declined 0.2% for the month, with imports falling 1.5%. The trade deficit fell to C$506 million, notably less than the prior month’s C$1.4 billion deficit as Canada is seeking buyers.

Canada cannot fully rely on trade outside the US. March saw a 6.6% monthly decline in exports to the US, which is bad news for Canadian businesses. Trade with the US for March was still strong at US$140.5 billion, notably due to an increase in pharmaceuticals and medicines ahead of forthcoming industry-specific tariffs. Autos also saw an uptick ahead of industry-specific tariffs, posting a 7.7% export increase for the month. Iron and steel products, already subject to a 25% tariff, fell 9%, while aluminum alloys and unwrought aluminum rose 4.4%.

The S&P Global Manufacturing PMI for Canada reached 39.1 in April 2025. Canadian manufacturing has not seen such a contraction since early COVID months when the global economy came to a standstill. Imposed and proposed US tariffs are stifling demand as purchasers do not know what to expect.

Those adhering to US boycotts fail to realize that the Canadian economy is structurally tied to the US economy. Infrastructure was designed to support trade through railways, trucking routes, and pipelines. Europe and Asia cannot replace the accessibility or scale of the US market. Additionally, the economy is closely aligned with the USD, and a major pivot would expose Canada to currency volatility. Canada may strengthen ties with other nations to fill margins but it cannot write off its top trade partner.

Columbia University Lays-Off Nearly 180 Research Staff Following Removal of Federal Grants

Posted originally on CTH on May 8, 2025 | Sundance

Ancillary to the takeover of the Columbia University library ¹yesterday that led to the subsequent arrest of dozens of campus chaos agents, Acting Columbia University President Claire Shipman has announced a decision to terminate 180 paid research staff.

The termination of employment comes as a result of the Trump administration withdrawing funding for the University.

COLUMBIA PRESS RELEASE – […] “Across the research portfolio we have had to make difficult choices and unfortunately, today, nearly 180 of our colleagues who have been working, in whole or in part, on impacted federal grants, will receive notices of non-renewal or termination. This represents about 20% of the individuals who are funded in some manner by the terminated grants.”

Instead of using their endowment to retain staff, the University terminates them.

¹Additionally, it is now being reported that Columbia University leadership knew in advance of the pro-Hamas protest group that planned to take over the school library.  The University chose to allow the confrontation on campus that ended with the arrest of the group.

I find it interesting that when left-wing ideology meets financial pressure, the money always wins.

The ‘useful idiot’ foot-soldiers are always disposable.

Republican Senators Defeat Nomination of Ed Martin, President Trump will Replace

Posted originally on CTH on May 8, 2025 | Sundance

Unfortunately, there is a toxic stew in Washington DC that too few understand.  The events today transpire just as many Trump supporters begin to realize the unfortunate outcomes of nominating unserious people like Pam Bondi, Kash Patel and Dan Bongino.

President Trump reluctantly stated earlier today that he will nominate a different person as U.S. Attorney for the critically important Washington DC office, as the collective republican opposition to Ed Martin has proven to be strong.

Ed Martin was what President Trump needed; a very serious, deliberate and qualified person to confront the Deep State UniParty.  Those core skillsets are why the Republicans did not support him.  However, on the optimistic side, if there is ever a special counsel to be appointed, I suspect Ed Martin will be leading candidate.

WASHINGTON DC – President Donald Trump said Thursday he will withdraw the nomination of Ed Martin, a longtime champion of Jan. 6 defendants, to be the District of Columbia’s top federal prosecutor.

“We have somebody else that will be great,” Trump told reporters. “We have somebody else who we’ll be announcing.”

Support for Martin among Capitol Hill Republicans has faltered in recent days, particularly after Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) signaled his opposition to the nominee over his past comments downplaying the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Martin has spent the last few years advocating for Jan. 6 defendants and helping organize their legal defense. He has embraced conspiracy theories about the attack and the results of the 2020 election and he has spoken favorably about some of the most egregious perpetrators of the riot.

Tillis, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, presented a major obstacle to Martin’s ability to be confirmed – both within the panel and on the chamber floor, given the GOP’s razor-thin majority and likely universal opposition among Democrats.

Trump suggested he would place Martin somewhere else in his administration. The Department of Justice did not immediately return a request for comment. (link)

Let us not pretend…

In basic truth, from the position of Washington DC politicians, both the democrats and republicans lost in the 2024 election. Washington DC well understands, candidate Donald Trump defeated the republican, Ron DeSantis, and candidate Trump defeated the democrat candidate, Kamala Harris. Forget the labels, that is what happened.

As the second term of President Trump continues, the republican party will show increasingly obvious opposition to all of the policies and results coming from the MAGA agenda that Trump represents.

In the background of our political dynamic the Republican apparatus is already having conversations about what comes next, after the abhorred MAGA infection identified as President Trump is removed.

When we ask ourselves why President Trump’s agenda hasn’t been codified by congressional action, the honest answer is, because the MAGA policy is not supported by the Republicans in congress. Nothing about this dynamic is likely to change. The professional republican politicians are simply wearing masks right now, and there are certain times when those masks slip.

Into this reality comes a tribe of shallow intellect and emotional thinking amid the Trump support base.  One of the reasons why Waltz, Bondi, Patel, Bongino and a few others were predictably going to fail relates not to their motive (although in Waltz case – ideology), but rather their lack of competence.  Several administration nominees, now officials, were widely known and supported for their high-profile visibility in prior years; unfortunately, their competence was never regarded as important.

As I said from the outset, the economic side is solid and there is much winning to celebrate today and into the future.  However, on the national security side, not so much.  Main Justice, FBI and Intel nominees were/are weak; some only optically valid and unserious.  We are watching the frustrating outcomes in real time.

♦ Washington DC, opposition to President Trump is economically and financially based. This is not about ideology; this is about money. There are trillions at stake.  K-Street exists for a reason, to bribe and influence the politicians.  President Trump does not benefit K-Street, he is focused on Main Street and that is the core of the opposition.

Democrats want power, Republicans want money. Democrats use money to get power; Republicans use power to get money. The policy of democrats determines the donor funding. The donor funding for Republicans determines the policy.  This is how the two wings of the UniParty operate.

The weapons of the opposition are deployed through Lawfare, that’s where the NatSec and Intel silos come into play.

Please understand this nuanced yet clear dynamic. The opposition is based on financial outcomes against their interests, the weapons used by the opposition come from the National Security system (silos).

The economic and foreign policy advancement is solid; however, the Lawfare/IC defense shields are weak because a mix of superfluous, professionally lazy, unserious, and incompetent people are standing atop the wall.
