Returning to the Arena, Sarah Palin Announces She Is Running for Congress

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has announced she is returning to the arena and will run for Alaska’s at large congressional district.  Her Twitter announcement reads:

“Today I’m announcing my candidacy for the U.S. House seat representing Alaska. Public service is a calling, and I would be honored to represent the men and women of Alaska in Congress, just as Rep. Young did for 49 years.”  ~ Sarah Palin (LINK)

Sarah Palin enters a crowded field of nearly 40 candidates to fill the seat held by Don Young, who died last month.  Alaska’s special election’s primary is scheduled for June 11th. The top four candidates will advance to the general election on Aug. 16th.

Sarah Palin represents one the rare few candidates in modern political history that does not come from the system of multinational corporate control stables.  This is good news.  MAGA 2022 Alaska.

Many people inside the modern MAGA movement may not remember how effective Sarah Palin was in 2010, specifically in the primary races against establishment republican candidates.  It was also Sarah Palin who helped launch the successful political careers of Nikki Haley (SC), Rand Paul (KY), Marco Rubio (FL), Rick Perry (TX), and many more.

The republican party poured money into Texas to support GOPe Kay Bailey Hutchinson against Rick Perry.  Sarah Palin stepped into Texas and singlehandedly turned that race by strongly supporting Rick Perry against the GOPe machine.

Unfortunately, many of the politicians who would not exist without Palin, later turned against her and the Tea Party in order to embrace the corporate donor class.  South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was/is the most famous turncoat.  Haley was about to lose in the Palmetto state contest until Palin arrived and took down the vicious media machine that was attacking.

It is good to see her back in the arena.

An endorsement by President Trump is a foregone conclusion.

The Third Sunday of Lent

Lk 13:1-9

Some people told Jesus about the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way
they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!
Or those eighteen people who were killed
when the tower at Siloam fell on them—
do you think they were more guilty
than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!”

And he told them this parable:
“There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard,
and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,
he said to the gardener,
‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree
but have found none.
So cut it down.
Why should it exhaust the soil?’
He said to him in reply,
‘Sir, leave it for this year also,
and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;
it may bear fruit in the future.
If not you can cut it down.’”

The Sunshine Protection Act

The US Senate unanimously voted for the Sunshine Protection Act to maintain daylight saving time. Finally, lawmakers realize policies implemented decades ago are no longer serving us. The tradition of changing the clocks back and forth began in 1918 in a failed attempt to conserve energy by limiting daylight hours.

This is welcome news to everyone who had to wake up in the dark cold only to go home in the same conditions without ever seeing the sun. Perhaps this law should have been passed amid the pandemic when doctors urged people to maintain healthy, active lives and stressed the importance of vitamin D.

“One has to ask themselves after a while: Why do we keep doing it?” Senator Marco Rubio said, adding, “The majority of the American people’s preference is just to stop the back-and-forth changing.” It is refreshing to hear a person in a position of power finally questioning our antiquated laws that serve no one. If the bill finds its way to Biden’s desk, the new law will go into effect in November 2023. Let’s hope more antiquated laws arrive on the Senate floor.

Lk 9:28b-36

Jesus took Peter, John, and James
and went up the mountain to pray.
While he was praying his face changed in appearance
and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus
that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.

Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep,
but becoming fully awake,
they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus,
“Master, it is good that we are here;
let us make three tents,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
But he did not know what he was saying.
While he was still speaking,
a cloud came and cast a shadow over them,
and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They fell silent and did not at that time
tell anyone what they had seen.

Added, from a comment I made yesterday on the Mardi Gras post, in answer to a question about Mardi Gras excesses. I think part of it fits here as well.

I’m not from New Orleans, or any of the other cities across the world where Mardi Gras and Carnival are celebrated. I don’t understand the costumes or krewes or other traditions, nor how they got started. I would guess though, that their origins were not entirely without religious significance. The secular world has of course intruded, but there are deep roots underneath.

I myself hope to slay some demons of my own during the 40 days. Perhaps giving face to them now helps do that.

Here is my Catholic take, for what it is worth.

My celebration of Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras is quite simple, maybe having pancakes for supper, a few extra sweets, especially if I’m giving them up for Lent. It’s a little celebratory, clear the decks kind of day as I focus my mind on the upcoming journey I want to make with Jesus during Lent. Kind of a clear out the old, extraneous, the unnecessary, the frivolous to make room for more somber, serious, and much more worthwhile things.

From a religious standpoint, Fat Tuesday is really about Lent. I have never experienced more changed (me, inside), joy filled, grace filled Easters than I have since converting to Catholicism and learning to live by the liturgical calendar, following the life and ministry, Death, Resurrection, Ascension, and the building of the Church, especially Lent and Easter.

We Christians are not meant to stand still, to tread water. We are meant to literally burst at the seems with driving, passionate, exploding growth. Lent helps us grow, pare back, trim off dead growth and condition ourselves for that growth.

Today we celebrate and appreciate all the culmination of great things the Lord has given us. Tomorrow we begin to give back in a special way some of those gifts in order to make room for more.

God is bountiful like that. The more he gives us, the more we accept and give away in turn, the more and more and more he wants to give us.

Lent is a journey where we get to know and love Jesus a little better, and to open ourselves to the true light and joy and love and hope of Easter Sunday.

Lk 4:1-13

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan
and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days,
to be tempted by the devil.
He ate nothing during those days,
and when they were over he was hungry.

The devil said to him,
“If you are the Son of God,
command this stone to become bread.”
Jesus answered him,
“It is written, One does not live on bread alone.”
Then he took him up and showed him
all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant.

“I shall give to you all this power and glory;

Finland President Drops Truth Bomb on Biden, White House Immediately Ends Presser

The installed occupant of the White House held a bilateral meeting today with Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland.

However, given the nature of the current Ukraine conflict, toward the end of their oval office remarks President Niinistro dropped a massive truth bomb which stunned Joe Biden.  Niinesto said, “Well, we usually don’t start wars“, promptly leading to the end of the media availability. WATCH (prompted 2:26):

As the World Debanks the Country of Russia, There Are Some Individual Lessons To Be Learned

A recent image attributed to the Moscow subway system presents some consideration for a potentially larger problem.

Increasingly, people everywhere have stopped using cash to pay for simple purchases.  The electronic payment systems shifted to credit cards and debit cards, and then, eventually as technology merged with phone platforms, the linking of your portable transponder to your financial institution in order to make purchases became an efficient way to make transactions.

However, as governments start using definitions of who is good and who is bad to create sanctions against the bad actors, and with Russia representing the most expansive modern targeting of the global financial system, the control of monetary transactions enters the sphere of integrated payment systems like VISA, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay and others.  With Russia being essentially “de-banked” on the world stage, this happens:

There’s an irony to this surfacing now… so soon after the Canadian government began targeting their political opposition for de-banking.

Essentially, what is happening in Russia, on an entire citizen scale, is the same issue that happened in Canada to the individuals targeted.  The financial mechanisms in this integrated system of payment are now creating havoc for the individual.

The SWIFT transfer system sanction(s) against the Russian government, end up debanking everyone in the country.  These are remarkable times, and this is an example of something that needs to be factored into how you can retain individual liberty and freedom.

First, they came for the Canadian Truckers……

Then they expanded to all Russian citizens….

Two questions:

(1) Who’s next? and… (2) Who’s “they”?
