This brings back memories of a similar event on August 2nd and 4th where US War ships were “fired” on in the Gulf of Tonkin by the North Vietnamese. This event directly led to the Vietnam War as it was an excuse to send in US Ground Troops and to this day it is not certain that this ever happened.
