Alternate headline: DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has officially entered the 2028 contest!
[SOURCE]
With two simple words, Kristi Noem has entered the race with Vance and Rubio.
Those who followed the first-term trade negotiations will likely remember the challenges of dealing with the European Union and their entrenched dependency on retaining the Marshall Plan system; a one-way tariff process that enabled Europe to rebuild after World War II.
Unfortunately, as with all long-term financial subsidies, the beneficiary becomes dependent and retaining benefit is their only objective.
Former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross spent the majority of his time focused on trying to negotiate with the EU to remove these ridiculous trade benefits that have long exhausted their usefulness. Enough is enough.
Term-two Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has the same regional assignment formerly held by Wilbur Ross, with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in full support.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has ASEAN nations as his primary regional focus, Lutnick’s primary region is the EU and President Trump is personally attentive to China and the USMCA. USTR Greer then goes to the primary with the closest deal under consideration and organizes the paper construct, the technical aspects. It’s an overall similar arrangement to term-1 only with a much bigger scope.
As would be expected from historic reference points in trying to break this insufferable one-way Marshall Plan system, the EU is once again operating in bad faith and will not give up their status. When President Trump says the entire reason for the EU to form was to ensure their retention of this Marshall Plan benefit, he’s not wrong. That’s the brutally honest background.
President Trump has announced today that a 50% tariff rate will be applied toward all EU imports until such a time as they come to the negotiation process willing to let go of their economic model dependent on the one-way benefit. There really is no other way to break the Gordian trade knot, other than to cut it – forcefully.
President Trump (via Truth Social) – “The European Union, which was formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the United States on TRADE, has been very difficult to deal with. Their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies, and more, have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year, a number which is totally unacceptable. Our discussions with them are going nowhere! Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025. There is no Tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
President Trump has other points of leverage and pressure that can be applied, including a U.S. withdrawal from NATO or a drawdown of U.S military presence, forcing the EU to spend more for their own security. However, the increasingly firm nudges from President Trump in that direction have resulted in EU words, not EU actions.
I fully support a more confrontational trade position from the USA toward the primary beneficiaries of these old trade systems, China, the EU and Canada. China is the biggest problem, but the EU dependency system is the most entrenched. Canada will be confronted when the USMCA is reopened for negotiation and two bilateral Free Trade Agreements are the likely outcome.
In addition to the Marshall Plan aspect, the EU is not going to give up their trade advantage position for the same reason Canada will not. In order to get to a place of free and reciprocal trade with both Canada and the EU both economic models need to give up their underlying “climate change” policies.
The financial benefits the EU and Canada receive via trade subsidies and one-way rules is the money that fundamentally underpins their ability to chase rainbow energy policy. If Canada and the EU had to finance their own “Green Energy” initiatives without the money gained from the U.S. trade imbalance, they would not be able to afford it. This is the core of the problem. It’s not just an entrenched unwillingness; there’s also an ideologically entrenched inability.
We have accepted and discussed this dynamic for years on these pages, and what we are going to see with the trade confrontation both in Canada and the EU is very predictable. Eventually, if the EU and Canada refuse to move, there is going to be a necessary cleaving; essentially a trade embargo blocking them from USA access….
New CCTV video released by Wisconsin media shows Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan outside her courtroom speaking with federal ICE agents who were there to arrest a criminal illegal alien appearing in Judge Dugan’s courtroom.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was previously indicted by a grand jury on charges of obstruction and concealing an individual from arrest. The charges outlined in the criminal complaint. At issue was President Trump’s plenary authority to remove Gwynne Wilcox, a former member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and Cathy A. Harris, the removed chair of the federal Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). The NLRB oversees laws protecting workers’ rights and union elections nationwide, while the MSPB defends federal government workers against political discrimination.
The court’s order [READ ORDER HERE] is unsigned; however, it provides dissent from the three DEI appointed justices (lesbian, latina, black), and did not decide the underlying merits of the case, which will continue to play out in the lower courts. Presumably the court alignment was 6-3.
The overall decision is an endorsement of presidential authority to appoint leadership within the executive branch without review. The power of the president is plenary to the Executive Branch. As noted in the opinion, “Because the Constitution vests the executive power in the President, he may remove without cause executive officers who exercise that power on his behalf, subject to narrow exceptions recognized by our precedents.”
(VIA ABC) – The Supreme Court’s conservative majority on Thursday bolstered President Donald Trump’s bid to assume full control of executive branch agencies, giving a green light — for now — to his removal of the heads of the National Labor Relations Board and Merit Systems Protection Board, whom he fired without cause.
A district court had sided with Cathy Harris of the Merit Systems Protection Board and Gwynne Wilcox of the National Labor Relations Board, concluding their firings from their independent agencies were likely illegal and must be reversed.
In a 6-3 decision, the high court granted Trump’s request for a stay of the lower court order to reinstate Harris and Wilcox, at least for now.
“The Government faces greater risk of harm from an order allowing a removed officer to continue exercising the executive power than a wrongfully removed officer faces from being unable to perform her statutory duty,” the majority explained.
The dispute is currently working its way through a federal court of appeals and may ultimately return to the Supreme Court on the merits.
Federal law and Supreme Court precedent explicitly prohibits the president from removing the heads of those independent, advisory agencies without cause in most cases — but conservatives and the administration have long argued that the rule is unconstitutional. (read more)

The Dept of Homeland Security has revoked the Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification for Harvard University, thereby essentially cancelling their ability to enroll foreign students into the school. Harvard was notified of the status and the letter shared by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
The notification comes the day after Yaron Lischinsky, an Israeli citizen, and Sarah Milgrim, an American woman (a young couple about to be engaged), were gunned down at the Capital Jewish Museum around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect Elias Rodriguez, 31 of Chicago, repeatedly yelled, “Free Palestine” when he was arrested.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration revoked Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students in its escalating battle with the Ivy League school, saying thousands of current students must transfer to other schools or leave the country.
The Department of Homeland Security announced the action Thursday, saying Harvard has created an unsafe campus environment by allowing “anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators” to assault Jewish students on campus. It also accused Harvard of coordinating with the Chinese communist party, saying it hosted and trained members of a Chinese paramilitary group as recently as 2024.
“This means Harvard can no longer enroll foreign students and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status,” the agency said in a statement.
Harvard enrolls almost 6,800 foreign students at its campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, accounting for more than a quarter of its student body. Most are graduate students, coming from more than 100 countries.
Harvard called the action unlawful and said it’s quickly working to provide guidance to students.
“This retaliatory action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country, and undermines Harvard’s academic and research mission,” the university said in a statement. (read more)

President Donald Trump’s appointed lead investigator on the DOJ Weaponization Working Group, Ed Martin, appears on a podcast with Mark Halperin to discuss ongoing events around the Trump administration. Ed Martin is also in charge of the DOJ pardon review and assembly within Main Justice.
Ed Martin was asked by Halprin about the use of the autopen to give presidential pardons during the final months of the Biden administration, against the recent confirmations that Joe Biden was severely cognitively impaired. Did Joe Biden even know who was getting pardons issued via the use of the autopen writing his signature?
Ed Martin answers by outlining his own questions that he sent via letters to former White House officials. WATCH (prompted):

Ed Martin notes that Ron Klain, Anita Dunn and Bob Bauer were the gatekeepers within the Biden White House, deciding who would ultimately be allowed to engage within the inner circle.

Put this into two files. (1) The confirmation file that it’s “always about the money;” and (2) The ‘things that make other things’ suddenly make sense file. Also, I wouldn’t suggest doing much with this, other than making a mental note for y’all deep weeds walkers; after all, we are not much fun at partisan parties when we don’t pretend the corruption gig is one-sided.
Readers here will know well that since the beginning of this year I have asked what’s going on with conservative media and this sudden pro-Qatar stuff they’ve been pushing. [Tucker example and more here]
Well, apparently long before the White House announced a historic ‘first ever’ trip to Qatar, the Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani began telling their lobbyists in DC to reach out to conservative media influencers with lucrative payments to shape a favorable pro-Qatar narrative.
[STORY HERE] “Tucker Carlson was far from Qatar’s only target in its quest to influence conservative media. Established right-of-center outlets like Fox News Digital, Just The News, the New York Post, the Daily Mail, and the Washington Examiner were all targeted to varying degrees by Qatari foreign agents in the months following Trump’s election, records show.”
Things certainly make a lot more sense now. As the saying goes, “it tracks.”
That said, if Qatar had a media strategy to enhance a foreign policy agenda with the Trump administration, well, that wouldn’t be a surprise; it’s just how things are done. However, in the background of the puzzling question about how those decades of outlines of Qatar being correctly called out for corruption disappear, well, it appears the Qataris just paid to disappear them. Go figure.

Earlier today President Trump used the Oval Office and the visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to call out the horrific violence taking place against white Afrikaner farmers. The moment in the oval office was the biggest international spotlight every placed on the issue. Major kudos to President Trump.
President Trump showed Cyril Ramaphosa a video of political activists within South Africa calling for the murder of white farmers, and then later video showing thousands of white crosses erected to call attention to the issue. Every element of media’s cultural Marxist army has been denying the atrocities while using political correctness as both a cover and justification for the slaughter. President Trump put a spotlight on years of international lying, Ramaphosa, did not know what to say. WATCH (prompted):
To give you an example of the DC media gaslighting, consider this phrase extracted from Politico as they attempt to deny what President Trump was outlining:
…”Additionally, the president’s claims of land seizures are exaggerated. While Ramaphosa signed a law earlier this year laying out circumstances in which the state can seize land for public purposes, most landowners are compensated.”… (link)
Land seizures are “exaggerated” because “landowners are compensated.” Can media even hear themselves, or read the typeset they use?
The farmers do not want to sell their land. The farmers do not want to be “compensated.” The compensation is irrelevant in the review of seizure. The forced taking of the land, with or without compensation, is the seizure.
The murder of the white farmers is the issue, not “how many” of them are murdered.
