Hello Martin,
You’ve covered the topic of increasing seismic activity and the correlation with climate change extensively in your daily blog.
Since the solar activity started to decline (cycle 24) around +/- 2014-2015, it seems that the rate of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are increasing worldwide.
Below I have added some links as reference to very recent (violent) volcanic explosions. I have also included a link to an overview of actual active volcanoes on earth. It is predicted that solar cycle 24 will end around 2021-2022 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_cycle_24#/media/File:Solar_cycle_24_sunspot_number_progression_and_prediction.gif) meaning that seismic activity will increase.
I cannot make the claim that there is an increase in seismic activity but there seems to be something brewing beneath our feet. The amount of volcanic ashes which is being propelled into the atmosphere at this moment must have an adverse effect on the global temperatures, and if the correlation holds up this is just the beginning.

REPLY: It is truly amazing to me how unprofessional the research has been. I do not know. In hedge fund management I always had to watch what was taking place around the world, so there were constantly multiple relations going on that the research I did was always global. It seems to be just a routine check to correlate everything and see what pops up. The climate change is cyclical and earthquakes and volcanic activity rise during a solar minimum. I fail to grasp why, if you really want to do research, you have to dig up the evidence.
Leonardo da Vinci left behind drawings of human body parts. He was curious as to how the body functioned. It was said that Leonardo would often dissect unclaimed bodies, such as drunks and vagrants. Those bodies were more likely to be male. It was definitely harder to get female bodies to dissect. Nevertheless, Leonardo found one dead pregnant woman to dissect to try to understand how everything worked. That is how research is done. You have to check all possibilities if you want to call it research rather than propaganda. As with the arguments for human-induced climate change (as distinguished from pollution), we cannot simply make assumptions and then assume something that has risen five years in a row will do so forever. That type of forecast in financial markets would be laughed at by everyone. Still, this is how the dire forecasts are being made in climate change and it seems to be simply to get money and fame.
A lot of questions have been pouring in from how much to will there be a kindle version. I am not sure of the cost yet. That depends on the printer. It will be full color and extensively illustrated. It covers everything you wanted to know about what is going on with the central banks. There will be a documentary film next year on this subject matter.

Draghi has come out and said that is inflation will not pick up, he will do even more Quantitative Easing. I has warned that the central banks, particularly the ECB, are trapped. They simply cannot return to any normal economic model without blowing up the entire Eurozone. This is becoming extremely serious. The only option for governments will be to adopt the Modern Monetary Theory for it has become impossible for central banks to use interest rates to stimulate the economy when governments themselves are the biggest borrowers.

I have dealt with all the controversial issues and why the economic theories all still taught in universities today are no longer practical or relevant. This is why there is a turn to the Modern Monetary Theory for they have nothing else on the table to consider. Here it is. I have tried to deal with all the issues people have been writing in about in an authoritative manner. I have done this because it is extremely important and I have been told that funding for another documentary to cover this topic has not been granted.

I have finished an important book which is just going off to press now for printing. This is an important work on how the central banks are trapped and how the manipulations of the World Economy are collapsing in upon themselves. The major central banks are now shifting policy from protecting the people and the economy to protecting the government. Not all are following this policy. Those that are burden with socialist programs are imploding. The more than 10 years of Quantitative Easing has destroyed bond markets and managed to get government addicted to low-interest rates that the private sector has been turning its back on. There have even been German bond auctions with no bid from investors.
This addresses the Modern Monetary Theory, its origin, and where it would leave us at the end of the day. We are at a crossroads in economic theory because ALL of the old theories has completely collapsed. Everything from Keynesian back to Marxism has crumbled to dust. Hopefully, this work will encourage real research and open the eyes in a subject that puts at risk our entire way of life.

QUESTION: I am confused. Is it true that only the Federal Reserve can create money and not the Treasury?

ANSWER: It all depends upon your definition of money. If you are asking about paper currency, then the answer is yes. If you are speaking of “elastic money,” which really is just book-entries, then that is also truly confined to the Federal Reserve. If you are including in your definition of money all government borrowings, then that is the prerogative of the Treasury. Now, if you are talking about leveraged book-entries where a bank is lending out money so two accounts will show an entry for the same money or close to it, then that is private banking lending. The definition is fluid. It depends greatly upon what you are calling money.
QUESTION: Central banks around the world are currently purchasing equities. If they continue to purchase equities, will we ever have a significant market downturn again? What happens when central banks acquire enough shares to control corporations?

ANSWER: Yes. The central banks have been buying equities to try to diversify their balance sheets as they also see what is coming down the road. Still, they are not the major buyers to influence the market in that manner. Corporate buybacks have been a much stronger factor in the marketplace.
The reason why we will not have a major crash is simply because this time it is different — the crash is in the debt markets.
QUESTION: Dear Mr. Armstrong,
You very recently pointed out that Switzerland is a country to avoid if it comes to foreign “Tax Refugees”. Because it signed, like many other countries, the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) agreement.
But how do you rank Switzerland as a country to live in permanently? I mean living there with a permanent permit or Swiss passport? There are quite a lot of foreign people, especially Europeans, who live and work there. They have the option to stay permanently there or return after a while to Germany for instance. To me, it is very attractive that Switzerland is not part of the EU, but maybe I’m overlooking something.

ANSWER: As far as a place to live, Switzerland is safe, albeit expensive. The Swiss economy was built on its banking expertise and security. That is now gone in the age of hunting cash globally. Consequently, the economy of Switzerland lost its primary competitive advantage economically. Now it must develop industries that are competitive globally. It needs more than chocolate and Rolex watches.
Of the three main sectors, the tertiary sector is the most important for the Swiss economy. It includesbanking, insurance, and tourism, employing more than 75% of Switzerland’s workforce. Over a fifth of the working population makes up the secondary sector, i.e. industry, trade, and crafts. The machine, metal, watch, and textile industries play a significant role, as do the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, which rely heavily on imports and exports. By far, banking was a major sector at the top of the list.
In Vancouver, if you have a property that someone else would love to tear down to build a high rise, the government has created a scheme to make you pay taxes as if you were a high-rise. Small businesses pay some amount of tax on the airspace above their businesses, which they have not developed. Yes, the B.C. government taxes property assessed on their “highest and best use” value. Essentially, a single-story building for a small mom-pop business is taxed as if they had sold out to a land developer and now own a multi-story commercial building.
QUESTION: Chicago real estate- is there any future before 2032 or do we hope for a Detroit situation as the only possibility for prices to rise?

ANSWER: Real estate will rise marginally but only when we see the shift from public to private. However, that will not be a rally in real terms. The crisis for Chicago is that there is no realization that the current system has failed. Instead, they continually try to impose new taxes and enforcement to sustain a system that cannot be maintained. Once we reach a point where the government realizes that this is a failed system, then and only then can we hope for change. The American Dream of homeownership is being destroyed in Illinois. There is just no chance for change until it results in major civil unrest.
